MEDIAWATCH: Q+A – Jack Tame destroys David Seymour

Jesus wept, Jack Tame earned his salary today in a very painful watch as he tore strips off David Seymour’s insane justification for turning the Treaty into a source of division.

He absolutely destroyed David’s argument about no where in the world having indigenous rights in law by listing the countries that do.

Jack points out that David as a representative of the Crown renegotiating the Treaty without any Māori input is outrageous because the Crown has an interest in limiting the Treaty.

This has always been the part about Seymour’s crusade that have never made any sense to me, ACT is a property rights over all type of political movement, so you would think that it was important to them to honour contracts, yet here is David as the Crown’s representative deciding all on his own to simply change the definition and meaning of the Treaty.

Jack points out that surely the best person for that is the Judiciary because they are independent of interest.

You can’t have two parties to a contract and one party simply decides to change the meaning regardless of what the other member of the contract wants.

Jack’s final point that it is deeply unjust to force referendum upon Māori when they are the minority. Allowing the majority to define the rights of the minority is not democracy, it’s fascism.

Māori either have customary rights granted to them under the Treaty, or they do n to – allowing the majority to decide is an egregious injustice.

David had a very bad day at the offie, and this couldn’t have helped either…

…bad day for ACT and rednecks, great day for public broadcasting.

    • That’s just under the percentage number that voted this numpty in at the last election…and here he is, acting like he’s the font of all knowledge…

…the leading light on Maori linguistics and contract law.

It’s pretty obvious he suffers from Histrionic Personality Disorder triggering the attention seeking behaviour syndrome and delusions of grandeur way beyond his ability brought on by what appears to be Distorted Self-image Disorder.

Normally people like Seymour wouldn’t, and shouldn’t, get anywhere near Parliament, let alone wield any sort of power, but ACT’s and National’s corruption of the MMP system has allowed this dweeb to slip through the net. …

Take away the $4million+ gifted to them by the multi-millionaires and billionaires club, plus the free use of buses and planes, not to mention the constant lie spreading algorithms he and his party indulge in on social media and he’d be hightailing it back to the Frontier Centre and Atlas Group in Canada to find some meaningless work over there.

Zealotry manifests in many forms. How ironic that he, through various veins of corporate and political corruption is gifted power, benefits hugely and financially at the taxpayer’s expense, but has an utter obsession with a cast iron contract between Maori and the Crown signed, but not honored by the Crown, 185 years ago.

School lunches is another one of his stupid irrational ill thought through pathological obsessions….asked if he , being on the taxpayer ticket , spent no more than $3 per day on lunch, wouldn’t give an answer….

Says it all…He needs to be gone from N.Z. politics …the sooner the better.

      • And I suppose you would argue that the leaders of the Maori party should be in parliament when time and again they showcase appealing lack of parliamentary procedure? Your post is full of the histrionic that you accuse David of showing. Tell me how asking for a discussion around what the underlying principles of any future decisions with regard to the treaty should be. The fact is that there has never been any discussion and as you should know the first reading of a bill is only the starter to get the ball rolling. The final reading of a bill often contains many changes
His partners in the coalition government have already said they will not support this bill beyond its first reading. So use your brain to tell me why David has insisted on introducing this bill. He has, if you have bothered to listen, explained why several times. Oh, and by the way it is at this stage that one would expect to make a rational response to the bill rather than the hysterical reaction that has prevailed up to this point.

    • Dont you want the rest of the world how sick Seymore and you are .How can you justify treating other human beings and maybe your neigbours in such a disgusting manner .Next he will want to euthanise you when you hit 70 to save the country money on your pension and health care .Look out hes coming for you .Watch your back.

        • Agree Whole-Heartedly Grant, thank you. Brillantly written Also of course Martyn Bradbury, happy I found your; The Daily Blog. Appreciate your writings.

    • Are you referring to six rednecks Ada who don’t watch or listen to any thing, they don’t want to hear, a bit like that seemore clown they are following.

  1. At last, Seymour being put on the spot and pushed hard.
He’s the one who wants the Treaty Principles bill passed and yet he hasn’t explained WHY it has to be done.
He serves up a lot of gobbledygook about his law having to apply to all NZ’ders which sounds very laudable.
As Jack Tame said, Māori being so outnumbered by the rest of the population which includes many new immigrants who know nothing about NZ, means Māori haven’t a chance of winning in a referendum.

How utterly unfair. How very un-like how we see ourselves as egalitarian kiwis. Looks like some wealthy dictatorial types are in charge now and people getting a fair go, is frowned upon by them.

Plenty of us old white boomers and younger NZders will vote in support of Māori but it’s still a huge risk.
It all comes back to Seymour not having explained WHY we have to go through all this nonsense. His supposed reasons do not add up.
He’s hiding something. Definitely not telling us the whole story.
Until Seymour comes clean no-one is going to take him seriously.
One man is causing all this trouble. Why?

Who would we really prefer as our leader, one well-meaning young woman or 3 secretive, dishonest men, being egged on by people who don’t even live here?

  2. He’s just a smarmy a’hole. It now makes you wonder if his being a champion of the right to die legislation was a budget move rather than one of compassion for those nearing the end. The fact that his reasoning for this Treaty Principles Turd is an absolute sham is lost on a number of people it would seem. Then with weasel words he says no one can point out what’s wrong with a Bill that essentially says signed by Me

    • “By seeing the Treaty Principles Bill for what it truly is, and laying its real purpose bare to the public, rather than focusing predominantly on a strategy that plays into a race-war rhetorical battle which we will most likely lose, we can beat Seymour at his own game”.

Too right. Very disappointed in Jack Tame. In his follow up interview with Debbie Ngarewa-Packer he had the opportunity, on more than one occasion, to drill down on what she meant by saying the TPB was connected to the Atlas Network. A big call. He let it go. Perhaps he doesn’t believe there is an ulterior motive, beyond the framing of human rights, beyond the legal and academic history of defining and interpreting the ToW principles as anti-democratic, beyond the attempt by an elite minority to enshrine different rights for different races. Seemingly common sense? Blatantly colonial? Simply racist? Important as that distinction its not the point really. If Dr Ryan Ward, and others, are on the money, its about opening up New Zealand to corporate exploitation for profit.

Had Jack Tame picked up on Debbie Ngarewa-Packer’s comments it might have gone some way to opening up the debate in this direction.

  3. I caught 10 minutes of it and wasn’t impressed by Tame’s English to Maori stuff re the treaty. Terrible with the Israel consul. For analytical stuff you need learned folk not the young goofs TVNZ torpedoes out.

    • Yeah Tame was a real letdown with the Israeli interview. WTF happened? Generally appreciate the guy and right now it’s him and Campbell, live, if it still existed.

  4. My question is ,what do the right white think Maori have that they dont .? Is it the poor housing ,poor health ,poverty or what .Clearly they are wanting the sea bed to rape and pilage and the small amount of land that Maori still own .
David says show him a country where indigenous people are given better than Maori .Well the old redneck USA treats the red indians way better .They have their own economy ,police and health system .
This is also a smoke screen for the government while they quietly steal the foreshore and sea bed and lots of other treaty deals .At the same time they are removing workers rights ,Act again leading that destruction ,and the nats are sinking the economy faster than the titanic .
A case of buyer bewear coming home to roost now .Imagine waht the country will be like in two years time ?

  5. My submission on the bill.
Principles of the Treaty of Waitangi Bill
    My/our comments
How can this bill even be considered for even a select committee let alone be past into law.
When the NZ govt ever since 1840 has done everything possible to denigrate Maori.
Visit this site and see every single action taken http://www.nwo.org.nz
Along with your removal of treaty references in 28 other bills.
in my opinion this bill is nothing but a smokescreen to allow the corporate takeover of NZ with minimal opposition.
The references to everyone equal before the law is smoke and mirrors.
Being equal does not equal does not equal equity.
SO IN NO WAY DO I SUPPORT THIS BILL.
When 40 KC’s and previous members of parliament and previous PM’s describe it as a disgusting piece of legislation I can only agree 100% with them.
KILL THE BILL and the SELECT COMMITTEE hearings.
    My/our recommendations
Kill the bill and the Hearings
