WAATEA NEWS COLUMN: Dishonouring of the Treaty will not be accepted by Pakeha Allies

Critics have claimed the enormous Hikoi protest to Parliament was just a Māori Party stunt.

Indeed the Prime Minister himself claimed the reason he didn’t meet the protest was because it was just a Māori Party protest and he sees them all the time.

That is a terrible misrepresentation of reality.

I walked across the Bridge in 2004 and in 2024 and the difference between then and now was the appalling racist abuse many drivers shouted in 2004 compared to the cheers and support in 2024.

A vast cross section of New Zealand from Pakeha to new migrant Kiwis all see the Treaty as the foundation of our country and their identity in this country.

The 55 000+ protestors in Wellington was a huge mix of New Zealand, it was not just a Māori Party event, it was undoubtedly Māori led but the huge number of Pakeha allies, Pacifica allies, Working Class allies, NZ-Asian allies, disabled allies and Rainbow Community all came together to support the Treaty.

The Political Right claim Middle New Zealand were against the Hikoi when Middle NZ were clearly in the Hikoi!

In 2004 Helen Clarke referred to that Hikoi as ‘Haters and Wreckers’, this Hikoi Chippy welcomed them!

The Treaty should be a source of pride and hope for New Zealnders, instead the political right have attempted to make it a divisive wedge.

The Political Right are losing because the rest of New Zealand see us stronger with the Treaty than without it.

It is the Political Right who are winning the extreme fringes while losing the middle.

There is a large section of NZ now who don’t see honouring the Treaty as a weakness, they see it as our strength.

  1. Luxon did not go out side because he dose not see it as his problem .When it turns to custard or he gets the sack he will just blame ACT .He take no responsability for any thing hence his the minister for nothing .

  2. Has Luxon made even one sound decision yet, in the whole year?
Does he listen to advisors or not?
Are his advisors deliberately making a fool of him or have they realised, they don’t have to try?

His lack of Aotearoa/NZ experience is really showing now. He’s basically a foreigner posing as a kiwi.
He has no kiwi credentials to speak of. He feels like an imposter?

Is it the Emperor’s New Clothes all over again, like his mentor. Couldn’t take bad news.
Why is the National party scared of dumping him? Is it because they have no-one to replace him?
He’s a dead weight to National now. He’s going to take them all down.

Do they want to Epsom Robot Party to supersede them?
We can smell the desperation on their breath!
