Let’s appreciate the naked corruption of the Fast Track process

So not only did those benefitting from the Fast Track plans donate $500 000 to the Government, the board set up to pick the winners was also stacked…

Most fast-track panellists picked by ministers, political parties

Most members of the fast-track independent advisory group were put forward by ministers and political parties, not government agencies.

The advisory group selected infrastructure and development projects to be included in fast-track legislation. These projects include 19 mining or quarrying projects, seven aquaculture projects, 58 housing projects, 43 infrastructure projects and 22 renewable energy projects. The bill would allow some of these projects to go ahead more quickly, without community consultation.

Minister for RMA Reform Chris Bishop had described the process the group followed to pick the projects as “completely insulated from ministers”.

“Other than setting the group up and giving them a mandate, we didn’t have anything to do with that process.”

While the process may have been independent of ministers, it appears the selection of the independent advisory group members was heavily influenced by ministers and parties, despite the impression many had that nominations would be sought from government agencies.

…some of the projects green lighted are nothing more than toxic environmental vandalism…

…so the donors get their projects through via a stacked process while limiting environmental, community and Māori voices in the process.

This while the planet melts!

The naked corruption of this should shame us all.

Increasingly having independent opinion in a mainstream media environment which mostly echo one another has become more important than ever, so if you value having an independent voice – please donate here.

  1. There is only 2 years left of this Coalition Government term .Governments are voted out not in so if what is started by this current team is against the majorities will then all projects will be stopped in their tracks.
It needs to be remembered that a government rules for the majority and I believe most want well paid secure jobs which come with the likes of mining and other heavy industry. This can be done with less damage to the environment than was the case before.
The vote in 2026 will show how the people think.

    • Unfortunately a lot of people don’t think or believe the drivel that comes from the likes of the 1ZB dickheads. Trevor you can’t bring yourself to acknowledge this looks dodgy because it is.

    • You lost me at “well paid secure jobs” when the reality is the opposite under this government. Those having lost jobs will vote this corrupt mob out.

    • Ignorant fuck.

Coal trucks up and down residential streets for 3 months with 3 more to go, you’re like the Mayor and all Westport ward councillors, who have taken the mine money over the public’s right not to endure a 24/7 blitzkrieg – Implemented to break the people’s spirit. and deny them a fucking nights sleep.

Any Barristers reading on here? I have a job for you.

    • Agreed. I’ve just received an update on the SH1 northland project: Major progress on delivering a dual carriageway as far north as Marsden Port!
Delivering what people want is what it’s all about.

      • Delivering what your donors want you mean simple Andrew, meanwhile the people suffer as National axe jobs at will.

      • It will never happen any time soon as the business case says there is not enough traffic to justify a 4 lane road .25000 vehicles might travel to Warkworth on a good day but only 10000 make it to Whangarei on that same good day .Most are heading to Mangawhai or turn left before the Brenderwyns and head west .

    • The mines if they ever get going will only employ a few hundred at best and only provide another billion to GDP at the most to Quote Jones when he says he wants to double exports from mining .Currently we export 1 billion worth of coal and the like .Hardly a massive industry is it .The off shore sea bed mining company has already halved their earnings from a billion to half a billion which in turn end up at half that amount because the so called rare vanadium is only worth $50 a ton .

      • But people like Trevor are brainwashed into believing what the right sell him. Mining is good, so good the Westport is now a city.

  2. The question is why is this legal? I don’t need to feel ashamed, I need to be protected by law against this type of money for favours grifting. It should be as illegal as insider trading, with the same consequences. Jail. Something is very wrong with our legal system for this fast track bullshit to occur. Same goes for Gumboot Friday leapfrogging due funding process. What about Dave Lelete’s food bank closing because he needs a million? Soooo wrong.

  3. The Government are obviously wanting to get their more controversial policies in place early in their term spending the latter part with sweeteners. Its an age old political tactic.

  4. After 6 years of Labour the average Civil servant is on $101000 .While we need good people on good money I do not feel many are earning their pay . This also sets the pay for private business. With National cutting the public service those left will be more keen to work hard and smart

    • Political Roundup: Auditor-General damns Govt’s charity funding processes.

So what’s the governments corrupt response Trevor? Seymour want’s to do away with the Auditor Generals office. Your dictatorship government has no integrity.

    • Jonzie I don’t think the roads are the projects that require cash to be handed over to ministers. Unless that’s the trucking industry donating. That might explain getting rid of rail enabled ferries and the associated infrastructure. That’s despite the data, which these wankers claim they base decisions on, pointing to rail.

  5. the kiss principle should strictly apply to governance and representation. so many effing politicians telling us to do too much. does anyone even know who they are? set and forget the mother fucking thing and get rid of the middle layer of management.
