Dame Jacinda should be brought back to NZ public life — Hipkins

Labour leader Chris Hipkins has lamented the absence of Dame Jacinda Ardern from New Zealand’s public life, urging the government to give her a role promoting the country’s cause.

The former Kiwi prime minister received her damehood from her friend Prince William at an investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle overnight.

For her five years as prime minister, she received one of the country’s highest honours: the New Zealand Order of Merit.

Dame Jacinda won global plaudits for her response to New Zealand’s worst modern day mass shooting, the 2019 Christchurch mosques terror attack, and the Covid-19 pandemic, during her tenure.

Since leaving office early last year, handing over to Hipkins who lost the October 2023 election, she has offered little public comment on domestic issues.

“I’ve had my time… I’m ready to be a sister and a mum,” she said last year.

Hipkins, one of Dame Jacinda’s closest friends in politics, believes she is being held back.

“The frustration that I have is I think that there’s a very small, very vocal, very angry minority of people who make Jacinda’s participation in New Zealand’s public dialogue at the moment quite difficult,” he told AAP.

“I don’t think that reflective of the views of the vast majority of New Zealanders.

“But it’s just really nasty, and I can kind of understand why she doesn’t want to subject herself to that.”

Chippy is right, the pathological hatred some in NZ have towards Jacinda is a mental illness.

I think for many of the anti-vax community, their refusal to vaccinate made them feel ostracised in their country for the first time ever and that cultural dislocation destroyed them as functioning individuals and their identity forever became warped by the stain of that anti-mandate identity.

You know, the way the woke did with the middle class Trans identity cult.

There were absolutely valid reasons for being disappointed in Jacinda’s legacy, her incremental domestic policy never reformed Capitalism, and her kindness became a weakness when poverty and cost of living bit, but her leadership and courage saved 20 000 lives during a once in a century pandemic – (ironically most of those lives were Boomers who then went on to vote NZFirst so no good deed goes unpunished), but when it counted Jacinda stepped up and for having that courage there is a fanatical hate club who spit venom whenever she is seen.

We need Jacinda back on board for team NZ the way we need Helen Clark on board and we need Grant Robertson.

We urgently need our talented former leaders back in public life to counter this hard right racist, climate denying, beneficiary bashing, disabled abusing Government.

  1. Why would she ever consider returning to any form of public life .The river of filth would be out in force with their demands for a lynching and Neve would need full time security .
Winston would be at the air port to meet her with his gun toting minister of arm every one along with the chain smoking costello there to give Neve a life time of tobacco and vapes .
What a shit hole we have become .

    • Lighten up gordon – we all know this – getting into bed with it means you wake up to it every day. Feed some more positive thoughts in. Turn the politicians to satirical images in your mind. For yours and our sakes too. We have to go on in this mission with as light a heart as possible and get recovery from looking into the abyss.

  2. The right wing were and remain insanely jealous of Jacinda’s global fame.
The left needs to protect that legacy.
Jacinda should stay out of the public realm until the next left wing victory in 2029.
The right will win in 2026 so to come back then and be associated with a left wing defeat
would help the right to say see she was just lucky with the massacre and Covid.
Her legacy would suffer supporting a left wing loss.
By 2028 the swing voters will be blaming the coalition for all their problems and looking left again. That is the time Jacinda should return.
Jacinda should wait till the political tide has turned.
Come back on the next left wing victory.
That will so totally piss the Right wing off.
A potential spanner in the works would be Jacinda being appointed Governor General.
    That is a must avoid.
Preder she be appointed to some significant position at the UN
That would be much better advertising for the left.
So if our left wing hierarchy have any political brains at all they will wait till the tide turns.
    Be patient people.

It hasn’t stopped the shyster from prancing around desperately trying to be the center of attention.

Whatever your views are regarding Ardern she is to damaged to be out trying to sell the the indefensible that is the current Labour party.

Her polarizing image to some and the fallout from that is counterproductive if she ventures back into public life.

There are still very strong reactions regarding the fallout from people who were sacked from their jobs for not getting the jab and the view is that the government went to far down the road of authoritarianism and many of these people were prior to this Labour voters. I worked with a number of them.

The treatment and threats to her life and her child were never acceptable and beneath contempt and the same view should apply who ever is the PM including the current incumbent.

Hipkins view on this I agree with.

The damage though has been done.

  4. Mental illness – psychology – projection. Understanding the findings and decisions on the way our mental processes work.

What is the psychology behind projecting?
Projection is a type of defense mechanism or means of coping. People may use defense mechanisms and unconscious mental strategies to cope with stressful or anxiety-provoking thoughts and experiences. When someone unconsciously attributes their thoughts, feelings, or behaviors to another person, they are projecting.22 Mei 2023

What is the Jungian concept of projection?
Projection is an important psychological defense mechanism that allows us to protect ourselves from feelings too difficult to process or admit. As Carl Jung said, “everyone carries a shadow,” and this shadow work can help us reclaim those denied aspects of ourself and discover wholeness.3 Māe 2023

    What mental illness involves projection?
This defense mechanism can occur without an underlying mental health condition.
Stress and lifestyle choices can cause someone to project. However, it is also common in those with personality disorders such as BPD and NPD.1 Āku 2023

(So there is sound information that people who are projecting their anger onto Dame? Jacinda
can utilise. I suggest they turn their angsts on someone else. Someone bigger and more powerful – like God. And in the meantime examine their own navels (your belly button) and study it to see if they have BPD or NPD and that will be something new and negative to agonise about.)

  5. A lovely person, a great prime minister and a positive ambassador for our country, real shame she and her family are treated so badly by the sick minded few here at home.

  6. I doubt very much she will return to public life in NZ. It’s a shame so much promise fizzled out and then exploded into what we have now. The rolling over into damehood is just another example of her middle of the road ambition. That’s ok, she is what she is. Chloe she is not. If Chloe accepted a gong and trotted out that worn out old line she accept for everyone etc…I would really be gutted.

  7. Anti vaxxers can get stuffed. If Covid had presented as Ebola, they would’ve been trampling over each other to get vaccinated. They’re just a bunch of entitled crybabies with pathetic lives which they blame on vaccinations and mandates rather than taking responsibility for their own misery.

    • “If Covid had presented as Ebola, they would’ve been trampling over each other to get vaccinated.”

Yeah, but it didn’t. That’s the central issue. Covid is nothing like as serious as Ebola, which is why so many decided not to get vaccinated.

      • MAEvans What naturally advanced Kiwis are – we know more than serious-minded professionals in the science across the world. Even if we are right sometimes, it doesn’t last long.

If all of our people were wise we wouldn’t have had Labour usher in a bad economic system that was more to give National a black eye rather than help the country. As usual we half-understood the matter, and so the people did with Covid; nobody knew just how fast it would kill or incapacitate. By then government had done the dirty on the poorer citizens for so long that more social and financial hardship was a step too far, But it was government for once trying to be helpful to the country and also prevent queues of sick and dying people waiting to get into hospitals.

These weren’t facts, only likelihoods and many people and apparently you also, are not good with assessing levels of seriousness. It seems many prefer 19th century nostrums like herbs around the neck and garlic – always a strength in adversity. Standing out against Covid vaccinations was being scared smart alicks – not smart or brave no matter what go-spell was trotted out.

      • Oh dear Mary Ann you might be one of those who endangers others with your ‘ facts ‘.

Since 1976 Ebola has killed about 15,266 people.
7,010,681 people have died so far from the coronavirus COVID-19 outbreak and then we’ve stopped counting globally as of April 2024.
