NETFLIX REVIEW: The cancelling of Ellen

There’s a great clip by Bill Burr joking about woke cancel culture that’s doing the rounds on social media at the moment.

He’s talking how we all have to pretend now that the woke cancel culture purges never really happened and that the woke acolytes are all, ‘why do you hate us so much, what did we ever do’, other than get people fired, woke pile ons and social media lynch mobs.

It’s funny because it’s true.

As the pendulum backlashes against woke activism, as the CAS report calls into question much of the trans dogma and as the woke drive males into the arms of the right, the woke be much more quiet these days.

Which reminds me about that wild time the Woke cancelled Ellen

Her new Netflix stand up special is a reminder of how crazy things were in the middle of the culture purge they went on.

In the millennial culture of woke micro aggression policing, everything is subjective. The ability to escalate an innocuous event into a hate crime is only ever one tweet away.

Maybe in a complex system of neoliberal economic hegemony, millennial culture micro aggression policing is the only power individuals feel they have left, but the distortion of objective facts by personal emotion legitimised by the grim wheel of intersectionism victimhood has birthed an ocean of social media cacophony all proclaiming their scars as the worst wound.

Subjective micro aggression policing is warping the space time continuum.

I was astounded at the manner in which Ellen was on endless news repeat within our mainstream media.

On and on it went, as if Ellen was the single worst human being in Western Civilisation.

I remember Ellen as a crusader for Lesbian identity and her coming out was a really big deal. Her show seems to be loved by people and she tries to inject some smiles in a pretty depressed world.

In the post me too world where the evidential threshold is whatever anyone says on twitter, Ellen’s crimes against humanity was not giving a make up artist their own toilet, she didn’t make a body guard feel welcome, she was mean spirited about some cracked nails on a waitress and a host of other bullshit events which if true amounts to nothing more than someone pushing past you at a shop and you deciding that amounts to genocide.

So what if Ellen is at times rude, how does that take anything away from her legacy or the joy her shows have generated for millions. The grim wheel of intersectionism victimhood denotes that Ellen is a white cishet passing lesbian with enormous wealth so fuck her for making people smile when she is in fact grumpy behind the scenes.

The language of catastrophe that most of those throwing accusations against Ellen are truly hilarious and have that whiff of emotional support peacock safe space preciousness about them.

The phrase ‘Toxic workplace’ should be reserved for Chernobyl or Harvey Weinstein’s hotel room, not Ellen’s show.

Look at how quickly the micro aggression policing Twitter mobs jumped on a previous tweetby Ellen to prove that she’s secretly Hannibal Lecter…

…turns out Ellen had given the worker a huge cash donation and the staff member was crying because she was happy.

Based on the subjective micro aggression policing accusation, the behind the scenes work environment at the Ellen Show is sandwiched somewhere between the Chinese Uyghur Internment camps and Soviet Union era gulags.

It’s sad that crusading micro-aggression policing has replaced appreciation of the art and creativity created.

Ellen’s demise is a reminder the woke would eat their own young if they weren’t all vegans.

  1. The reason why the Twitter sphere has hushed is because Elon Musk has turned it into X and most people have fled and there is no one great echo chamber anymore. Which is good the sooner it crashes and burns completely the better. That been said defending a hypocrite not funny jokesteress with a creepy talkshow built on humiliation humour is a weird hill to defend. And as for her self proclaimed largesse to a humble worker ant, she can go fuck herself along with every other billionaire scattering coins.

  2. Please define woke, I’m truly puzzled by its use in so many situations, does everyone have a different definition is this a Humpty Dumpty situation?

  3. It is not often I agree with you, Martin, but I definitely do here. Well put too. The ‘woke’ (i.e. ‘progressive liberals’) were such admirable people when it was all about ‘awareness’ and inclusion. They are still well-intentioned (though cynics will dismiss their pronouncements as ‘virtue-signalling’). They got some political power, which seemed to change them, and they started ‘punishing’ (via directed social action) people who disagreed with them or brought up uncomfortable facts. They almost got to the point where dissent could be called ‘hate speech’ and punished through the legal system, but thanks to groups (that many had decried as ‘right-wing’ like the Free Speech Union, that disastrous bill was shelved – for now.

  4. Then again there is this movie, the APPRENTICE, ABOUT TRUMP AND HIS MENTOR, IS OUT NOW, headline the Trump, we now know. All blocked channels, heaps fronting it on their play list, this is not available at this time, not the usual, sorry we cannot configuer or other such thing .
So Trump, obvious has legal injunction against anyone knowing his truth as a corporate maggot, feeding on those /who dares question the corporate maggot.
