Ngāti Toa leader on why he wants a debate with David Seymour
The chief executive of Ngāti Toa agrees with David Seymour that a national debate is needed on the place of Te Tiriti o Waitangi – the Treaty of Waitangi – in modern Aotearoa – but says it needs to be a two-way discussion.
Treaty of Waitangi debate on as David Seymour takes up Ngāti Toa leader Helmut Modlik’s challenge
-
- Billed as Te Tautohe Tiriti – Te Tiriti o Waitangi Debate, Ngāti Toa Rangatira leader Helmut Modlik will square off against ACT leader David Seymour next week.
- Modlik challenged Seymour to debate the role of Te Tiriti o Waitangi in the 21st century back in August, after watching Seymour defend his Treaty Principles Bill.
- The bill would define the principles of the Treaty to what ACT says was actually written and signed in 1840 – the same rights and duties for all New Zealanders.
Helmut told David, anytime, anywhere, any place and David has agreed and said, “The Working Group“.
That’s right folks, The Working Group is proud to announce that we will be hosting the Iwi vs David Seymour Treaty Debate, 8pm October 8th, live-streamed on Rova, Youtube, Facebook, Tictok, Twitter, The Daily Blog AND simulcast live on Sky TV Channel 83 and Waatea Radio!
The Working Group is New Zealand’s number 1 weekly political podcast that is NOT funded by NZ on Air!
The Working Group is the only place in New Zealand media where a Marxist and Libertarian argue each week over politics with a range of guests far outside the hollow little echo chambers of the mainstream political panels.
The Working Group practises free speech while the Free Speech Union grandstand on it!
The Working Group has the debate while the woke middle class activists seek only to cancel!
The Working Group brought you more live-streamed election debates than any other news organisation!
The Working Group outrages the feral Qanon Racist Right AND the humourless woke cancel mobs.
We believe passionately at The Working Group in more debate, not less of it!
We demand the debate, we don’t shy away from it.
We believe a well functioning democracy requires more debate outside the Gatekeepers narrative and celebrate adults being able to engage with big ideas.
The debate must be passionate because the issues are passionate, but after the furious words and argument, we must as citizens shake hands and continue the debate because that’s the way we change minds and win support in a liberal progressive democracy.

Martyn – Should be very interesting to hear…well done again.
I’m not interested in hearing what that little weird dweeb Seymour has to say…i’ve heard all his spurious nonsensical reckons many times over.
Mr.8% , backed only by greedy, entitled, unhinged billionaires, needs to go out into the real world and get a real job instead of bludging $100’s of 1000’s of dollars a year off 92% of the taxpayer’s of New Zealand and wasting everyone’s time!!
By debate I hope you mean kick his flappy arse. No matter what seymour has to say it won’t be worth listening to.
