Podcast: A View From Afar with Paul G. Buchanan and Selwyn Manning.
In this episode of A View from Afar political scientist and former Pentagon Analyst, Paul G. Buchanan and journalist Selwyn Manning discuss: The Murky World of Israel’s Booby-Trapped Pagers and Walkie-Talkies.
Paul and Selwyn reveal Israel’s long-form planning that led to it sabotaging hand-held communication devices that Hezbollah used to communicate with.
This episode’s questions include:
- Who was behind the manufacturing of the booby-trapped devices?
- How long has Israel been planning last week’s attack – an attack that saw thousands injured and many killed in Lebanon after Israel remotely pulled the virtual-pin and exploded the devices indiscriminantly?
- And why now? Presumably the devices were also programmed to be tracked. So why did Israel decide to abandon tracking Hezbollah and to attack?
- Was it to cause chaos among its enemies in a preemptive move immediately prior to its widespread bombing and targeting of communities in Lebanon?
- And what of international law? Has Israel gone so far beyond the Rubicon with Gaza that it senses international law no longer applies to Israel?
- And, finally, has the United Nations abandoned its right to protect principles, its peacemaking and peacekeeping responsibilities in favour of aid, development and an overly bureaucratic institution?

Listening to all the info on subverted electronic devices used tactically by state actors in conflict areas, presumably when the SpaceX-vodafone satellite system goes live in NZ, then as well as providing communication in remote areas without cell phone coverage, the satellites will be able to pick up all cell phone communications, and not just what they say will. And whether you to choose to trust such a system depends on how much you trust Mr Musk, the Trump leaning billionaire.
And why get rid of the copper network, that was very resilient during times of natural disaster, to get the fibre based system that will cease functioning duting powercuts? Why remove the choice? Every time an advert saying “NZ runs on fibre…” has come on TV over many years now, showing the choice is being removed, who is paying for that advert? Can the Chorus ONT box, operate as a listening device?
Indeed! WHY get rid of the copper network (other than for short term thinking, and for the cheapskates to rip it out and flog it off for the copper).
Here in Silicon valley, I can still get cable, DSL, and Fibre according to my need.
Everything is generally well maintained. Underground comms conduiting where possible, and overhead where not.
Only recent problems being related to climate change where excessive temperatures have been burning out cable amps – usually replaced within half a day – albeit by ticket clipper outsourced contractors.
Copper in NZ whether laid by NZPO and its privatised successor, or Telstra/Clear is actually perfectly serviceable
These two commentators (Selwyn and Paul) are a pair of very intelligent and knowledgeable guys. They cut through the bs with solid information.
It is a worry indeed that communication devices have been weaponised–who will do it next…
Amazing ingenuity by the IDF not to mention the penetration of their spy network.
Did you listen to the cast BtF? I did, and the two of them know what they are talking about. The Israeli butchers were sprung anyway regarding their tech booby trapping, and they want a buffer zone in Lebanon which may or may not involve a land based invasion before the US Presidential Election.
The Zionists are basically willing to burn the Mid East in their crazy mission. The unknown is where will the Authoritarian rulers of the Gulf go, and will the yanks finally pull the pin on Israel in the event of a Harris Win.
