Six-month select committee process for Treaty Principles Bill
ACT Party leader David Seymour has secured a full six month-long select committee process for his Treaty Principles Bill.
Cabinet agreed on Monday to the outline of what the Treaty Principles Bill will look like, along with the timing of the process, with the select committee due to report back in May next year.
That would take the ACT-led debate right past Rātana celebrations and Waitangi Day next year – when the government will likely be challenged again on the issue.
Luxon claims he is locked into voting for this radioactive race baiting Treaty Principles Referendum because of MMP, but is that true?
I’ve joked before the election that the yellow quick fox would jump over the lazy blue dog – National voting for this terrible and dangerous piece of legislation isn’t the fault of MMP, this is because Luxon is the weakest National Party PM since Jenny Shipley!
We were endlessly told that Christopher Luxon was the great deal maker and that the coalition he negotiated with NZFirst and ACT would be amazing but the reality is that he was outplayed and out manoeuvred by Seymour and Winston into these extreme culture war policy positions and this isn’t the fault of MMP but his own incompetence!
The irony that Luxon refuses to honour the Treaty but will honour his agreement with ACT to undermine that Treaty should be lost on no one.
True political leadership wouldn’t have signed up to this race baiting political theatre in the first place.
The Political Right are threatening the country with civil unrest with this divisive far right redneck cracker anti-Māori, anti-Treaty agenda.
Increasingly having independent opinion in a mainstream media environment which mostly echo one another has become more important than ever, so if you value having an independent voice – please donate here.

Terrible narratives from the comment sections on the NZ Herald just one-sided same stories playing victimhood because of the maaaris just pathetic
The oligarchal position of the Waitangi Tribunal and the judiciary have made the debate mandatory so normal citizens can decide the constitution of their own country
Luxon is just a plain weak prick with no principals of any sort .Why would any PM want the country to crash and burn as much as this idiot clearly wants it to .He will cut and run next year when it turns ugly hence the reaso he is selling off his houses and no doubt Key is exporting the money for him .
At the entrance way of every primary school in NZ should be placed a plaque with the inscription.
To remember and honour all the brave and honourable Maori ,Men, Women and Children
who gave their lives defending our homelands against the White invasion.
We will never surrender.
Ake Ake Ake tonu atu
Tihei Mauri ora
True enough Koina. On the other side of course could be a plaque celebrating the invading victors. Veni vidi Vici and all that. Perhaps both can be recognised and remembered in that long ago conflict.
When Labour failed to fire any real bullets in the first period in power they blamed NZF I the second term they lost that excuse and still came up wanting so were resounded beaten.
While MMP gives voice to minorities it ultimately leads to weaker governance.I am not sure which is worse.
Which is why the two tired old legacy parties have to be beaten to a pulp and new GEN Z blood brought in through the Greens and Te Pati MaORI NO MATTER WHAT ANYONE THINKS .
National and Labour are dead meat.
Nothing to do with MMP.
It is simply the right wing appealing to base levels of prejudice and ignorance.
In the years following the White invasion there were criminals like Hobson Fitzroy and Grey.
Hobson Fitzroy and Grey should all be retrospectively tried and found guilty of war crimes and theft.
100 years later we got Holland Muldoon Bolger and now Luxon.
Using right wing White power to deny the undeniable and to justify the unjustifiable
Different faces, different centuries. Same sh#t..
So Trevor what carnage has the treaty in its current format caused the country that the hard right require the need to change it?
The answer…nothing.
This has nothing to do with Labour, how you managed to put your right wing narrative on this subjects portrays you in a pathetic light.
You are becoming Bob the first troll like everytime you post.
Greens cannot control their own MPs let alone run the country and do you really think TPM can rule for all when they claim superiority in so many matters. They appeal to a small Maori group but that is all .
Remember Nationals Jamie Lee Ross, Judith Collins, Hamish Walker, Todd Barclay, Aaron Gilmore, Andrew Falloon, the list is endless Trevor and all you can do is say “Greens cannot control their own MPs”. I suggest you really think long and hard before posting your childish comments.
Problem is Baldrick does not understand the History of NZ, he can only interpret what he has been told and taught, as he does not have the ability to critically analyse the situation, Seymour, Winston and Shane Jones are not that much better as they see things through rose tinted glasses.
