Announce protest actions, general chit chat or give your opinion on issues we haven’t covered for the day.

The Editor doesn’t moderate this blog,  3 volunteers do, they are very lenient to provide you a free speech space but if it’s just deranged abuse or putting words in bloggers mouths to have a pointless argument, we don’t bother publishing.

All in all, TDB gives punters a very, very, very wide space to comment in but we won’t bother with out right lies or gleeful malice. We leave that to the Herald comment section.

EDITORS NOTE: – By the way, here’s a list of shit that will get your comment dumped. Sexist abuse, homophobic abuse, racist abuse, anti-muslim abuse, transphobic abuse, Chemtrails, 9/11 truthers, Qanon lunacy, climate deniers, anti-fluoride fanatics, anti-vaxxer lunatics, 5G conspiracy theories, the virus is a bioweapon, some weird bullshit about the UN taking over the world  and ANYONE that links to fucking infowar.

  1. Don Maclean’s song Dreidel is meaning-full today.

    https://genius.com/Don-mclean-dreidel-lyrics (part vocal here)
I feel like a spinning top or a dreidel
The spinning don’t stop when you leave the cradle
    You just slow down
Round and around this world you go
Spinning through the lives of the people you know
    We all slow down…

And I feel like I’m dippin’ and divin’
My sky shoes are spiked with lead heels
I’m lost in this star car I’m drivin’
But my air soul keeps pushin’ big wheels
My world is a constant confusion
My mind is prepared to attack
    My past, a persuasive illusion
I’m watchin’ the future it’s black
What do you know? You know just what you perceive
What can you show? Nothing of what you believe
And as you grow, each thread of life that you leave
Will spin around your deeds and dictate your needs
As you sell your soul and you sow your seeds
And you wound yourself, and your loved one bleeds
And your habits grow, and your conscience feeds
On all that you thought you should be
I never thought this could happen to me…

How you gonna keep on turnin’ from day to day?
How you gonna keep from turnin’ your life away?
No days you can borrow, no time you can buy
No trust in tomorrow, it’s a lie

I feel like a spinning top or a dreidel
The spinning don’t stop when you leave the cradle
    You just slow down
    You just slow
    Down…

    Hanukkah –
In Hebrew, Hanukkah means “dedication,” and the holiday marks the rededication of the Temple in Jerusalem in the 2nd century BC, after a small group of Jewish fighters liberated it from occupying foreign forces. 30 Noe 2023

In these days we all have to protect ourselves against a psychological force occupying our minds – particularly the love of money, amassing material things, and having whatever we desire no matter who suffers loss.

  2. It shows that people including business, politicians and administrators don’t actually fully understand or know what is happening in this country after numerous changes to our laws and agreements, and their effects either. We just go blindly on.

At the bottom of that article on seafood is another heralding! problems that nobody wants to know about, acknowlege!!

  3. Minister Simeon Brown described congestion as “a tax on time and productivity”.

And now he’s going to make it a tax on your wallet. That will be inflationary.

    https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/politics/watch-live-simeon-brown-makes-transport-announcement/A7ATCVJTKRHDNBIV7LWSKSFJ3Q/#google_vignette.

Will congestion charges stop you from driving?

    And thus, will they work?

Ponder, how much will they really need to charge you to stop driving?

Once these charges are in, they will only increase going forward.

This is taking the country further off track.

Income taxes should be the way to pay for more roading to reduce congestion – not ever increasing congestion charges.

    • Not sure The Chairman. We should be trying to use more shared transport. Go to hubs and jump on a fast express with tradies and ambulances having a special lane. That does work I believe. But special, like bus-only, lanes can be abolished by new councillors under pressure from lobbyists. Cars are useful but our way of use needs revision.

I’m wondering about lots of friendly tuk-tuks popping around bringing people into city like personal buses rather than cabs, cheaper. And combined with a circle route through CBD as in Wellington I think.

  4. Shared transport only works for a limited number, thus is not a workable solution for most.

Tuk-tuks are far too slow and would further add to roading congestion.

    • But this problem of mass transport has to be handled in piecemeal fashion so tuk-tuks in their place, shared transport, circles etc. would have a place. Need flexible thinking that provides solutions., not targets that have to be filled according to the latest fashion ie battery buses as we have in Nelson. Large heavy empty things – but affordable by the planners while the ratepayers cough-cough-up and the roads and tarmac of parking space has to be redone from its previous light once-over.

More effective practical smart thinking needed, plus citizen input – eg Now what do you need, and if it is unaffordable then what would work and be satisfactory at a cheaper price; but input seems unwanted these days. (Look at the bother about the Te Huia* rail from Hamilton to Audckland – it is not as full as it has been designed for even though being used by hundreds.

Reach the target or nothing idea is too often a backward measure for advancement! The approach generally is – we know best little people, we have been trained and are being paid good salaries and you are just pawns who will need to pawn everything to pay for our vision, schemes and salaries; rates and taxes falling on and denting the very ordinary people. I think that is becoming a general POV amongst the hoi polloi!

      * Is Te Huia ending?
What is the future for Te Huia? Te Huia is operating as a trial until mid-2026, but we don’t have funding certainty from central government beyond the end of June 2024.
