The Editor doesn’t moderate this blog, 3 volunteers do, they are very lenient to provide you a free speech space but if it’s just deranged abuse or putting words in bloggers mouths to have a pointless argument, we don’t bother publishing.
All in all, TDB gives punters a very, very, very wide space to comment in but we won’t bother with out right lies or gleeful malice. We leave that to the Herald comment section.
EDITORS NOTE: – By the way, here’s a list of shit that will get your comment dumped. Sexist abuse, homophobic abuse, racist abuse, anti-muslim abuse, transphobic abuse, Chemtrails, 9/11 truthers, Qanon lunacy, climate deniers, anti-fluoride fanatics, anti-vaxxer lunatics, 5G conspiracy theories, the virus is a bioweapon, some weird bullshit about the UN taking over the world and ANYONE that links to fucking infowar.
The association representing big energy users is conducting an investigation into what is driving high power prices because no one else will.
Major Electricity Users Group chairperson John Harbord said the government and the Electricity Authority had not been willing to get to the bottom of the problem.
“We’re talking about the country’s largest exporters and they’re reducing the amount of product they’re making for export, which means as a country, we’re all worse off as a result.”
Things have become that bad that Winstone Pulp International (WPI) has paused work for 14 days at its two operational sites to consider if it can keep going.
Ruapehu Mayor Weston Kirton said the Winstone Pulp Mill is the largest employer in the Ruapehu District and is crucial to New Zealand’s overall economic health, and especially the North Island economy.

If only the Greens had a plan to significantly lower power costs.
They could have gotten together with the country’s largest exporters and perhaps secured their support.
Wouldn’t that have been an achievement for the Greens?
Better ideas for running the country come from cool heads on this blog. Seems to me that the present incumbents should do their cumming elsewhere and leave their chairs empty for the oddfellows and girls in the hoi polloi who have mainly NZ experience and present good CVs.
Early 18th century | Old English Trade Guilds were in decline. Many fraternal societies took their place and became firmly established to support workers with benevolence should they fall on hard times. This included the Odd Fellows – a society representing fellow craftsmen from an assortment of trades.

Can we act intelligently and practically or are we sleepy hobbits? Personally I’ve hopes for us as hobbits, but zestful ones. Zestful Newzealand – not zzzz. I totally agree with this. These young persons’ books deal with important life matters at a level of young and inexperienced teenagers. Looking at society as an old person I see many other adults who haven’t activated their brain on these topics, having gone right past this type of experience and learning at the time of their teenage apparently.
I like Homecoming series of 7 books of the Tillerman family by Cynthia Voigt, a thoughtful and lively USA author who presents a family of children led by a young teenager on a journey to their grandmothers home when left parentless. They support each other and talk their plans out, and cope with problems. It is a rewarding read of believable success for the ability of youngsters to achieve after early years of kindly family life with value modelling and basic routine.
Cynthia Voigt also writes the 4 book Tales of the Kingdom series – four loosely connected books with a sort of medieval setting. Again there is a journey of travel and mind and learning how to love and trust, and find a partner, and accepting risk and responsibility.

Van on fire – ev?
We are losing effectiveness in this modern matrix of systems pushed at us.
Note that she had to be on phone for half an hour to check and has time consuming major claim to put in and she has to wait for recompense. Her customers expect the immediate refund.
But Beauty Bliss owner Toni Cox only found out a week later, after a series of customer complaints referring to a “weird status” of their orders on the NZ Post tracking system.
“So I called [NZ Post] yesterday and was on hold for half an hour, and then I come into an email this morning saying that there had been an incident and that the stock was gone and we needed to do a claim,” she said…
About 15 of her orders seemed to be lost – NZ Post could not give her a list, so she had to work it out for herself – and a lengthy claims process with NZ Post would follow.
“I’m expecting it to take me a very, very long time to see any of that money, but I have no choice. I have to compensate the customers straight away if I want to keep my business.”
She could only claim for the cost of postage and the items inside each parcel, she said.
“Not for all the other costs associated with doing the business, all the packaging, supplies and the boxes, and gifts with purchase, and if the customer then demands a refund, it’s the Afterpay fee… I’ll be massively out of pocket,” she said.
Random thoughts – It seems to be difficult for people dealing in real things and easier for people manipulating systems for the internet or gummint or businesses that bought into previous gummints dealing in the basics. A threadbare economy for ordinary peeps, can we set up a parallel life where we only deal with each other who have been registered as being part of a local supportive group.
I used to be in Green Dollars but members were not tied in tightly enough and didn’t understand it well enough to ensure enough trading and its success. Members need to deal regularly with others they had virtually contracted with to ensure the flow of member tokens between members and give the cross interaction to ensure a range of useful trades.
In the background is someone talking about how rotten a new release of a useful guide on the internet is; booming in my brain. Something to do with AI. A joke from it ‘Why did the bike not stand up by itself. A. It was too tired.’ If people listen to the internet all the time I think their brain will go to pea size. In fact it might be necessary to have a set time during the day away from looking at a screen. Go for a chat with other people at your nearest friendly tavern or cafe. The takeaway carts and shops I use enjoy seeing me, and I know their names and always wish them a good day, say something about things. People meeting, great!
Brian Eno on co-operative intelligence. Great new ideas are usually articulated by individuals, they are nearly always generated by communities…(What can we do if we can get our heads together?)
