Gaza Strip

Air strikes: Heavy aerial bombardment on buildings, homes and many facilities.

Attacks: All over Gaza, there are air strikes, heavy gunfire, tank and artillery shelling, as well as missiles fired from Israeli forces and military occupation, especially in Khan Yunis. The Israeli Navycontinues to fire missiles, targeting facilities and buildings along the entire Gaza shoreline.

Victims: 50 more people killed in Gaza now brings the total number of deaths, since 7 October, to at least 38,243. With another 130 wounded, that figure has risen to more than 88,033. The daily average of men, women and children killed in Gaza is at least 139 and, of those injured, the daily average is over 320. Spot the difference.

Hypocrisy, double standards and racism as a policy

Since 7 October 2023, the Israeli Army has destroyed 34 hospitals, all 12 universities and 113 schools, representing over 80% of schools in Gaza, killing at least 5,479 students, 261 teachers and 95 university professors in Gaza, alongside archivists and librarians. Not to mention the destruction of most of Gaza’s infrastructure and the killing of 38,098, including 15,919 children and 10,569 women.

While Albanese (Australian Prime Minister) was condemning Russia’s targeting of a school in Ukraine yesterday (See Anthony Albanese, Prime Minister of Australia, Doorstop interview, Sydney, 9July 2024), killing twenty people, Israel targeted a school in Khan Younis South of Gaza, killing 29 people. And yet, not one single condemnation of Israel’s war crimes against the Palestinian people from this Government!

Anthony Albanese said yesterday: “We have seen overnight the targeting of a school by Russia, once again a completely unacceptable action. At least twenty people have been killed across Ukraine as they slammed into a children’s hospital in Kyiv … These Russian missile attacks on several Ukrainian cities, including the children’s hospital, are just abhorrent… it is time, well past time, for Vladimir Putin to end this conflict.

We condemn the targeting of civilian infrastructure that’s hurting hospitals, schools, and a range of infrastructure targets in such a reckless way. Australia can be very proud that we’ve contributed over a billion dollars to the efforts of the Ukrainian people, who’ve shown extraordinary courage. They’re standing up for the international rule of law, which is absolutely vital. And we’re proud to continue to support the Ukrainian people in standing up for their national sovereignty and for that international rule of law. Because their struggle is very relevant for the whole world as we go forward.”

Leslie Bravery
Leslie Bravery is a Londoner with vivid World War Two memories of the Nazi blitz on his home town. In 1947/1948 His father explained to him what was happening to the Palestinians thus: “Any ideology or political movement that creates refugees in the process of realising its ambitions must be inhuman and should be opposed and condemned as unacceptable.” What followed confirmed this assessment of the Zionist entity a hundredfold. Now a retired flamenco guitarist, with a lifelong interest in the tragedy of what happened to the Palestinian people, he tries to publicise their plight. Because the daily injustices they suffer barely get a mention in the mainstream news media, Leslie edits/compiles a daily newsletter, In Occupied Palestine, for the Palestine Human Rights Campaign. These days, to preserve his sanity, he enjoys taking part in a drama group whenever possible!
