A psychiatrist, who has resigned after months of doing the work of three specialists, says the final straw was being denied a panic button in her office.
In an interview with Nine to Noon, Professor Marie Bismark said she was caring for more than 300 patients at the Kāpiti Mental Health Clinic, some of whom were “seriously unwell ” with a history of violence, including rape.
Over a 20-month period, she made several requests to Health New Zealand management for a personal alarm to be installed in her office.

Everything is changing ss and we are just individuals. We haven’t time to discuss everything through and get consensus to everyone’s complete satisfaction. The questions are – what can be done practically in the best way forward with who and what we have now?? What should I best put my time into and who to respect and trust? We all have to put ideas forward not lay it entirely on those who are staunch enough to stand up and say things like ‘You shall not pas’ as did Gandalf in Lord of the Rings.
Actually this brings to mind what I became disenchanted with when involved in some leftish projects. People not supportive of the task and each other; people going off into little cabals and grizzling and eating away at the spirit of the thing. Ended in tatters. So perhaps think differently ss.
