Announce protest actions, general chit chat or give your opinion on issues we haven’t covered for the day.

The Editor doesn’t moderate this blog,  3 volunteers do, they are very lenient to provide you a free speech space but if it’s just deranged abuse or putting words in bloggers mouths to have a pointless argument, we don’t bother publishing.

All in all, TDB gives punters a very, very, very wide space to comment in but we won’t bother with out right lies or gleeful malice. We leave that to the Herald comment section.

EDITORS NOTE: – By the way, here’s a list of shit that will get your comment dumped. Sexist abuse, homophobic abuse, racist abuse, anti-muslim abuse, transphobic abuse, Chemtrails, 9/11 truthers, Qanon lunacy, climate deniers, anti-fluoride fanatics, anti-vaxxer lunatics, 5G conspiracy theories, the virus is a bioweapon, some weird bullshit about the UN taking over the world  and ANYONE that links to fucking infowar.

This had to happen sometime. The economy has been running like a ponzi scheme for so long. But now we will have the unedifying view of people who haven’t given a f..k while they still had well-paying jobs, do a dramatic performance of being in charge and bravely going forward in the light of unforeseen happenings. French farces were about bedroom scenes, I wish ours were as interesting and entertaining. Becoz it will be we who watch from the pits or the gods and who have spent our last pennies to get entrance to the performance.

Interislander grounded near Picton after steering failure; refloating delayed
    June 22, 20249 comments
Marlborough’s Harbourmaster Jake Oliver said more time was needed to establish further information about the grounding pressure of the boat and vessel design before any refloat is attempted. Divers will be undertaking further inspections and naval architects are also involved.

I hope the port authorities will do a better job looking after the Aratere than was done looking after the Mikhail Lermontov; where they oversaw a major international shipping disaster and one in the eye for Russia (which was quite incidental I hope). But near enough, she’ll be right, isn’t good enough, and not good for us these days but perhaps what we still get if it works out economywise for the present moment.

Reading about the real Mikhail Lermontov who was a hussar and a poet and a lot of other things, he could be said to have had a life ruined by false pride of high society. (This is a familiar theme in the Regency Romances from England.) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mikhail_Lermontov

He was disenchanted with life; perhaps his thoughts are echoed by the better-off in NZ /AO?
“The time of my dreams has passed; the time for believing is long gone; now I want material pleasures, happiness that I can touch, happiness that can be bought with gold, that one can carry it in one’s pocket as a snuff-box; happiness that beguiles only my senses while leaving my soul in peace and quiet,” he wrote in a letter to Maria Lopukhina dated 4 August 1833.

    • She’s taking advice from her chosen ‘officials’ @ CiP. Not unlike a grounded ferry is susceptible to taking on water. Rest assured, you’ll know from the school ma’am in the fullness of time.
Prepare yourself though, she’ll front up to media in full screeching mode, so I’d recommend a suitable grade of ear plugs – and listen (rather than watch and listen).
It’s just as well we don’t have smellavision

    • Maybe thrre are none. Maybe they are just abusive and there is a limit on what can be said to avoid stirring up a wasp’s nest as I have found. Why don’t you stop complaining about the sites sumsuch – just put forward some fresh ideas – you know you can do it.

(And can we start listing the NZ businesses who have vowed to carry on using humans and limiting the use of allgo-rithms, and then we will promise, vow and follow-through in buying from them and paying more, always checking regularly that they are paying their staff properly and setting them human-friendly hours. Because that is what we will have to do to honour our own kind. And be kind to ourselves and our children and friends and neighbours and grandchildren and their dogs and Uncle Tom Cobbly and all.)

The organisers of a new survey on artificial intelligence in the workplace say they want to find out what’s needed to help Aotearoa’s companies adapt in the AI era, as well as measure its impact on productivity.
AI Forum New Zealand was working with Victoria University and Callaghan Innovation to measure the impact of artificial intelligence on business.

What have we here – humans lurking in the shadows looking for work and income – the right stuff! Meanwhile the money is on measures to prevent the pesky people and advance the end of humanity except for a few dodgy humans kept on as museum pieces. The method of burying bodies without coffins so that the earth can be enriched was a good scheme advanced by one of our free-thinking AI units.

“I like Karen Chhour. I really do” (I promise, really I do, and I never lie)

2 things stood out for me with the q+eh? interview with Tame. Actually, I lie – several things stood out.

    1. (to paraphrase). ” The problem with 7AA is with interpretation”
OK KC. FIX the way it is being interpreted. Give clear guidelines if necessary in that space, going forward. It’s a bit like trying to cure the symptoms rather than the illness.
    2. “I think kulcha is really important”
If that’s the case, why the hell are you with the ACToids where culture is just another commodity to be traded. It’ll always be on the wrong side of the ledger in the mind of an ACToid unless there’s a brief period where its share price hits a spike.

Another one bites the dust! He has been at Westpac for 22 years and knows the price of everything and the value of getting out before the ship goes down. As with Her Graciousness Mrs Shipley facing a great fine along with others in their roll as directors, it’s not so straightforward as being PM. It isn’t a bowl of cherries being in real big business; they know how to roll you but do you know how to roll them? Banks are in a special position of course.
    About:
David has had a career as a lawyer and a banker and is a member of the National Advisory Council on the Employment of Women.
David McLean (LLB Hons 1983) has had a career as a lawyer and banker. He retired in June 2021 after 7 years as CEO of Westpac NZ. (To go to Kiwi Rail December 2021 as Chair of KiwiRail Holdings Ltd,)

During his time at Westpac David promoted a number of diversity and inclusion initiatives. David is a member of the National Advisory Council on the Employment of Women, and is a former chair of the NZ Bankers Association, former co-Chair of Champions for Change, former chair, and Distinguished Fellow, of INFINZ, and former member of the council of Infrastructure NZ.

It’s enough to make you spin on your revolving office chair. Big money is spread more liberally than butter on bread used to be even in the better UK houses. I think that nothing is too good for these eminent people.

I see in the UK Sarah, Duchess of York and husband are being sued for millions of pounds, now that used to be mind-boggling stuff. Now it is almost collateral damage.

This is real stuff. An example of a NZ brand that has been trying to hold its own in NZ trading and with the NZ way, being battered. Are we going to allow this sort of king hit from K Mart and new vulture costco finish us off?

The pollies have set up the country’s systems to suit themselves – make hay while the sun shines – Auckland heritage building being left unsorted by Wayne Brown Mayor elected to suit the senseless wealthy. Our crucial electricity pylons suffering from deterioration. Does it speak to you? You might have to drop that info into the daily conversation. And leave it at that. – old adage; You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make it drink.

But the rest of the breathing country have to know about this and get a sports team’s pizazz in supporting NZ/AO. Maori could lead the way as they don’t want to see the country over-run with more imports and fractured distribution of the nation’s resources eg going to mass landlords. We are going back in time towards colonialism – they need to pick out a year when they had achieved something and were able to go forward from that.

The rest of us might just chew our fingernails and try and get the educated wealthy to stop worrying about building covenants spoiling their view, or whether that woman or old man in the residential homes advert is real or not. I note they don’t advertise with the pictures of people with bed sores down to the bone.

We need thinking, keen, planning and practical people who want a kindness approach like Jacinda did. You won’t find it at the end of the rainbow. The rainbow that we had has always been elusive. Now it has gone and we get the rain but not evenly. Nothing is even and fair and spread to all. So let’s do little local things that are positive and look to the future. Tell each other about it and then hold area meetings to strengthen the resolve and get ideas. We did wonders before tech came along and the borders too widely opened and used for scamming money from outsiders. We must think; it’s now or never.
