David Parker, Grant Robertson, Chloe Swabrick and the Māori Party Tax policy all walk into a bar…

Up against Chippy’s Captain’s Call of no wealth tax is now David Parker, Grant Robertson, Chloe Swarbrick and the incredible Māori Party Tax Policy.

The political project of the Right is to starve the State of revenue so that it can’t be redistributed in the first place, the challenge for the Left is to Rame change through before the self serving Public Service and Professional Material Class Consultants fuck it up!

The real power struggle in NZ isn’t Left vs Right, it’s between the Professional Managerial Class Consultants vs a self serving Public Service!

The Professional Managerial Class Consultants push to ensure corporate interests like their profit margins and dominant market share are always protected and woven into any watered down regulation while the self serving Public Service fight for more money to fund their latest glass palace.

To bypass these two forces, the Left must ram their policy through in the first 100 days and because Labour are so weak and captured, they must be forced to pass progressive legislation and that’s why John Tamihere forcing those changes through in the negotiations is our only collective hope (because we all know how weak the Greens are on this front).

David Parker, Grant Robertson, Chloe Swabrick and the Māori Party Tax policy all walk into a bar and what happens next ain’t no joke!

If we have any hope of taking the tax yoke off workers and onto the corporates and the billionaire class it will be with a Labour/Green Minority Government with Supply and Confidence from the Māori Party.

Now the Māori Party have released such an enormous Tax Policy, watch the right go into a feeding frenzy panic to destroy this as they realise their party may finally be over.

Consider how undertaxed we really are and at how successful the neoliberal agenda has been in allowing the mega wealthy to get away with a rigged casino.

There are 38 OECD countries.

NZ is the only country without a CGT.

NZ is one of 13 without an estate or inheritance tax.

NZ is one of 3 without a different tax rate for food.

NZ ranks sixth for net wealth.

NZ tax take, spending and debt are below the OECD average.

The message is clear.

Tax. The. Rich.

  1. You say Labour is so weak and captured that they won’t do anything, but you still want us to support them because they might? You think they might be forced by the Greens, who are so weak and weighed down by identity politics that I’m surprised they manage to get out of bed? Or the Maori Party, whose policies have many New Zealanders concerned, might force Labour to actually do something, rather than just create more division before collapsing the whole house of cards when they didn’t get their way? The road ahead is only getting rougher (so many slips & potholes!) and many wheels have already fallen off Labour’s cart, how many more before it collapses completely and they start flogging their dead horse?

    • Totally agree Rat in a cage, how many more mistakes and lack of any vision do we have to endure?

  2. Why this obsession with complex taxation systems? FTT as the only tax – it is fair, simple and cheap to implement, by far the hardest to evade. It is so simple even politicians should understand it…one hopes.

    • And like pay wave fees credit card fees you will pay that Financial transaction tax on every purchase/payment you make. The rich lister will write off his Financial transaction tax as a business expense.

  3. Tamahere’s tax policy isn’t too bad, but it really needed to be another party announcing it. He is just too divisive to win maximum support around that.

  4. All politics is pressure.

    This is Chris Hipkins in April;

….Chris Hipkins has ruled out cutting GST from fresh food as New Zealand continues grappling with a cost of living crisis.
Speaking with AM on Tuesday, the Prime Minister said such relief wasn’t an option in the short term.
“It would be quite a complex change so even if [the] Government was going to go down that road, it’s likely to take some time to implement because all of the systems and so on would need to change,” he told host Ryan Bridge. “It’s not something that’s on our short-term work programme at the moment.
“Don’t expect to see anything in that space between now and the election.”
Hipkins’ comments were in response to questions from Bridge, who pointed to emails from AM viewers calling for the change.
The Māori Party has long-called for the change to remove GST from healthy food…..

In response; Chris Hipkins objected to removing GST from healthy food has hardened the Maori Party’s stance to removing GST from all food.

In April Chris Hipkins torpedoed removing GST from fresh fruit and vegetables as being “complex”.

Under pressure from the Maori Party to do something about the cost of living crisis, trust Labour to go with the worst possible “complex” option.

The Maori Party MPs and the public need to keep the heat on Hipkins and Labour.

    All politics is pressure
Margaret Thatcher infamously said, “This lady is not for changing” (and was promptly expelled for not changing by her own party)

However, Chris Hipkins is provenly, for changing.

He needs to change even more.

All power to the Maori Party

  5. The message is very clear. End the welfare state entirely and lower all taxes. Then those that actually contribute via working get to reap the awards. Parasites be gone

  6. Good summary of the tax situation in NZ currently.

Dear Roy – governments generally tax for income and wealth redistribution – they exist for the economic and social good of the population – and defense if need be. Governments are not like large businesses where the onus is on the bottom line – making a profit and/or return to the shareholders of the business.

The business model is not a good fit for social service organisations or critical services such as health and education. This is due to the undying focus on the profitability of the organisation – this also includes the need to cut costs when businesses are struggling to seek to ensure ongoing profitability.

All this said, the government is the last point of contact in regards the maintenance of sovereignty and economic viability of the nation. This is evidenced in ongoing government efforts to restrain inflation, manage government debt (the efficacy of which is highly subjective – e.g. differing views of what is an ‘acceptable’ level of public debt), and increasingly manage government image and direction by focus group advice and a large number of formal reviews that have been implemented.

    Nuff sed.

  7. This is with the assumption the centre-right neoliberal, Labour, Greens TMP are the next government right?

Arrrh nah. It’s Hung all thee waaay!

  8. “NZ Ranks 6th in net wealth.”
We must be doing something right!
But then again, we could work harder at it and drop to 32 if that is what will improve our society……

We have to target our care better so that it reaches those in need and keep funding that through taxation.

Until a better economic system becomes evident we should stick to capitalism and free markets. Maybe Neo-Marxism is it, but I am not convinced.

  9. I can see the leaders of Labour and Greens with these 3 after the current parties lose and lose badly in the up coming election.

  10. exactly why the banks and big business fought Jim Andertons alliance tooth and nail against an FTT tax back in 1986/87

  11. Budget problems ultimately must stem from government overspending – if we could afford it before now without new taxes (and we clearly could), we should be able to afford it now. The problem is the ever growing expansion of non-productive sectors of the economy (i.e. Government largesse). The only sustainable solution is putting the axe to useless government spending, sxomething that the current Government is clearly unable to do.

    • DoC are operating in a deficit mode and asking for more money as they are struggling to fund their core duties. Meanwhile they’re offering all their staff a $3.5k bonus to learn Te Reo which is not a requirement for their role.
      WTF?
Too many government departments have no fiscal discipline or focus on their role. It’s a leadership failure. Their leadership is overseen by cabinet ministers who are obviously out of their depth and not up to it.

In short, New Zealand is run by politicians who have been promoted far, far beyond their competence and ability.

  12. f*ckn great article, link & comments thank you- most of us bleed red and most of us eat food grown/reared in the soil/on the land. Those of us who don’t might like to return to wherever they came from.

  13. David Parker, Grant Robertson, Chloe Swabrick and the Māori Party Tax policy all walk into a bar…

Chris Hipkins ducks out the back entrance

  14. So, are we to assume that Hipkins is contemplating retiring after the next election? “under a Government I lead there will be no wealth or capital gains tax after the election. ” are telling words to my mind..

  15. Taxing the filthy rich–“it burns us, it hurts us so, nassty lefties…”

Green,Te Pāti Māori and even Robbo and David Parker’s tax policies show that support is now growing to extract some dough from the employing class of this country–better late than never. It will happen one way or another.

  16. ” Up against Chippy’s Captain’s Call of no wealth tax is now David Parker, Grant Robertson, Chloe Swarbrick and the incredible Māori Party Tax Policy.”

So where are all the other LINO MP’s whose conscience should be reminding them why they joined LINO to support the constituency they pretend to care about.

But their own greed and entitlement obscures doing anything that might threaten that like making a principled stand.

  17. The amount of division going on in NZ, constant push for more taxes as the go to for professionals and businesses from government who keeps adding more and more committees and groups offering zero value, and the push for unproven ideological mumbo jumbo and grifters, in many areas of education is driving capital offshore. https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/designer-tamzyn-adding-moves-miss-lolo-business-to-australia/ANB3UJEONFESZAWMQIXZKWOCF4/

How is NZ going to be able to run itself when our kids can’t even get a quality education? Now the top students leave NZ and increasingly the “D” students are at universities here – where they get ‘passed’ as part of our new system and make it into the wokeforce here.

Having zero ethics is starting to show.
    https://www.engineeringnz.org/news-insights/christchurch-engineer-dr-wu-acted-incompetently/

Those being attracted to NZ seem to be increasingly high needs, poor ethics and with criminal intent as the word has got around how easy it is to come here and make $$$$ in many areas under the table, get free social services like housing and health care, not be qualified or competent to work or be criminally minded.

NZ has has developed an economy based on below par educational qualifications, minimum wage or cash immigration Ponzi, with tourism, take out joints and labourers in construction and farming being what the government has concentrated on in terms of skills for the last 20 years. Not experts and professionals whose wages have not held parity with our peers in OZ.

Then there is the ideological in our immigration where high needs, depressed and criminally intended seem to find it extremely easy to get residency in NZ. The crims who go to OZ and even the terrorist bride family all make it back to NZ, as nobody else wants them. NZ government can’t wait to get them back and virtue signals who wonderful they are for woke thinkers , but now as more gun attacks, more gangs, more socially unacceptable people joining the already growing criminal/division class in NZ, it seems to be taking it’s toll to help criminals while ignoring victims.

Not many countries have policy to want to get rid of their expert professional skills while not caring as they get another student or high needs family on no wages, or bakers ‘assistant’ into the country on minimum wages and will qualify for housing, education and benefits, that NZ has gone into debt to pay for.

It’s a joke to see who got the Covid wages, billionaires and fake businesses found it easy. Cost of Living payments send out to backpackers and developers overseas. Nobody in government seems to worry about spending money wisely, it’s one hand out after another.

The result is poverty and full jails, hospitals and justice while not being enough staff to provide expert care – so bad that people who fake their qualifications find it alarming easy in NZ to work for government services in immigration and even as a fake doctor here. https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/crime/300660195/alleged-imposter-doctor-used-fake-documents-to-get-off-driving-charge

Nobody cares or checks in government departments – even the courts don’t check if the documents are fraudulent and the fake doctor managed to get discharged without conviction with the courts not noticing that the documents were fake.

Likewise corruption and incompetence is terrible – cake decorators from India are getting awarded 7 million dollar waste water contracts.

Government have committee after committee with the people on them on the pigs back. Hard to see how alcohol and crayfish dinners in OZ is helping NZ vocational and educational youth! Disgusting and they get hired on mass committees and paid off instead of being prosecuted.

“Toitū te Waiora, jointly chaired by David Waters and Matthew Tukaki, is one of SIX Workforce Development Councils set up by the Government this term to bolster vocational training and education.”

“TTW is a small and very new organisation, having existed for less than two years. With only 31 staff listed in its annual report, the figures suggest around 10 per cent of staff have experienced employment grievances requiring financial settlements to be paid out.

That investigation showed Clarke’s publicly-funded card had been used to pay for alcohol and lobster in Sydney, numerous post-midnight taxi trips and that the $72,862 in total spent by Clarke over 11 months was more than twice as much the five other Workforce Development Council chief executives combined.”

  18. I really hope they took a taxi or tax payer funded chauffeur to get them home safely, after all they would not want to be in the news again for drink/driving.

  19. Why are people poor in NZ? Part of it is the allowance of crime,

both physical (ak random attacks that put people in hospital and thus they will get poorer and poorer if they can no longer work)

And constant scams, that the government and industry here, don’t seem to be very interested in doing anything about. AKA someone rang a bank fraud line and had to wait hours to find out if it was a fraud or not. With their profits you would think it would be more of a priority to stop their customers being ripped off.

When banks, telecoms, Waka Kotahi and more government agencies seem to have scam messages in their names to send them money – apparently the scammers are now targeting the many people whose flights are cancelled. Often (like with customs people and drugs) there are inside people involved.

NZ a soft touch. The mall terrorist in NZ that told his flatmate, how easy it was to make up a story to get refugee/protected status here. https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/auckland-mall-terrorist-forged-medical-documents-boasted-about-duping-immigration-officials/P4TXIN7YOI2OENGEKTWRCV2AD4/

Also surprise, surprise, in the UK journos found that they could get a solicitor to make up a false story to get refugee status for 10,000 pounds. https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/fake-claim-asylum-solicitors-face-full-force-of-sanctions-wkhtwktwc

But the woke won’t believe it, they seem compelled to want to help the criminals while taxing and ignoring scams aimed at citizens here.
