Aloha Luxon is channeling Jenny Shipley welfare reforms – why National’s fortunes are rapidly fading

Now with 'Private School Boy Mode' where Teddy Luxspin beats the bejesus into you.

National’s slogan ‘welfare that works’ is a throw back to Shipley’s punitive welfare programmes of the early 90s…

…Luxon was already singing Bill English’s Social Investment model which spawned Oranga Tamariki when he became leader, he then went to a UK Right Wing Think Tank who specialise in privatising social services to give a speech and now right when NZ has one of the lowest unemployment rates ever, Luxon targets the weakest group to bully and just puts the boot in.

He is selling the crack of the whip by constantly repeating the use of sanctions to cut welfare.

He’s threatening welfare sanctions on the disabled, the ill and the sick.

That’s the kind of needless spite masquerading as tough love that National Party supporters love.

They crave this mean spiritedness. The more punitive, the better.

It doesn’t matter if it’s counter productive, in fact the MORE counter productive, the more excited National Party voters get.

Remember the State House Meth scam?

National used false science to breach Housing NZs own regulations to throw State Tenants out on the street. In the middle of a housing crisis, National created a homelessness crisis by throwing hundreds of State Tenants onto the streets for false Meth harm contamination readings.

No one got sacked, no one was punished, fuck it, Paula Bennett who was the Minister responsible gets to play charades on fucking TVNZ now!

For National supporters, when it comes to social policy, all that matters is that someone they hate suffers, regardless of the cost and regardless of the counter productivity of it all.

We-make-people-we-hate-suffer-no-matter-the-cost is actually right wing dogma.

Here’s how it works.

National will take $50million from MSD, give it to 3rd party contractors who will get a bonus by removing people off the list.

The 2 ways those young people get off the list is if they get a job OR they are sanctioned off the list.

You can all see the game being played here.

Taxpayer money to 3rd party contractors who get paid when they find them a job or they are cut off welfare.

National want to drive sick people back to work, that’s how this country will lead into the future???

This sort of bullshit shouldn’t be allowed to fly when there is so much academic research that this draconian welfare approach doesn’t work!

Pretending that bashing young people on welfare is the solution to rebuilding from covid or is a way to combat poverty or inequality or the housing crisis is just such inane bullshit!

Using the excitement of the crack of the whip to smuggle through a vast privatisation of welfare agenda is going to spook the centre all the way back to Jacinda.

National trying to out ACT ACT on welfare privatisation is just too extreme for the electorate.

The political shine is now off Aloha Luxon and National’s fortunes are fading.

His manipulation of Kiwi’s cost of living pain only to holiday in Hawaii while pretending to be in Te Puke is a political duplicity that once seen can’t be unseen.

National have misread the wider room, by attacking young people on welfare they are attracting angry vote, but alienating the middle who appreciate the universal experience of covid requires compassion not draconian bullshit.

National have no new ideas and the grumpy centre who flirted with Luxon are now seeing the extreme conflict politics of ACT and are walking away from that.

Luxon has a 34% ceiling with National, they are simply too right wing for the centre now.

  1. Anywhere between 33% and 38% depending on the economic position. In fairness i’d argue Labour’s range is similar as is Act and the Greens. It is becoming more and more likely the fate of the next election sits on whether WinstonFirst get backs in.

I suspect he will and put Ardern in an inevitable position of having to decide between Mahutacorp and Government. Then go with Te Reo and Rimmer.

There is poetic justice in the person that politically made Our Glorious Leader will likely be her political killer.

      • Are you serious? Is it possible you are being played by anti Maori social media post? Paranoid and exaggerated tropes of a Maori takeover? 3 waters, co-governance – doesn’t it remind of all the anti treaty tropes we heard years ago?

        • it is suspected that SK is sef efricahn, so its not his fault, he is genetically predisposed to being a racist idiot.

      • You really are a racist, misogynist POS Sour Kraut?
A nasty piece of dirty politics a- , Cameron Slater and Judith Collins would be proud?
Another graduate from the Eggstein and Donnaruma Young Natz hate speech academy?

    • Showing your racist name calling side Frank. I suggest you read the article about Chris Finlayson on Newsroom to broaden your mind. I suspect though that your mind is so narrow you cannot get enough width between your ears to comb your hair.
Don’t forget that what you term Mahutacorp was originally named TuriaKeycorp.

      • Lol. Follow the dollars and see who “Tinkerbell” represents post parliament. Hint: He’ll make A LOT of dollars out of co-governance.

Findlayson has turned into a grifter like Burrows, Tolley and NZ’s thickest PM ol’ coot Boldger. They can’t help but keep their snouts in the trough.

Keep your petty insults up though – it shows you are losing the argument.

        • Wow Frankie, you’re placing Bennett over Findlayson, you really have lost the plot. Bennett with constant Herald blogs shows which pig has their snout in the trough and it’s not Findlayson.

  2. I was wishing Aloha Luxon would have come up with something original — rather than going back 30 years.

    • I have to agree Nathan. Just one good socially acceptable policy would incinerate Jacinda and her right wing government in drag. National can’t see they could beat labour at their own game and still be capitalist. The only difference will be Jacinda’s lies that have nice wrapping paper around them and Luxons lies that won’t.

    • Yes that’s a fair point. But he doesn’t have to win. Labour will do it all for him. Example…all he has to say is that Labour is enabling hundreds and thousands to not work any more for the rest if their lives, which they are atvthis rate. All he has to say is that the country will be run by Mahutacorp, which it will be at this rate. Havungvseen where all the 3W consulting money goes, we know how it will roll out. All he has to do is hold up the education stats under Jacindas watch. That’s all he has to do. It’s not hard to prove that Labour is a wrecking ball of a govt.

      • Fermented cabbage there are less unemployed than when National were in power. Labour are hardly letting people swan around on a benefit. You sound like Luxon. As for your paranoia over three waters and co governance you will never admit that the concepts evolved under National anyway. National was not always full of race baiters.

  3. And yet these policies exist in the UK implemented by an elected government. Voters absolutely love it when politicians pick on small, vulnerable and completely powerless groups. Unfortunately for beneficiaries there isn’t a lot of immigration at the moment so it’s a bene bashing bonanza. There’s still Maori here so getting the boot into them will be next. That will be Acts job mostly.

  4. Nothing motivates working and middle class voters more than the idea of punishing the undeserving. It is the single most effective political strategy out there.

  5. Natz and Act are bad, Luxton bad, but the Labeen woke are bad too. NZ voters don’t have a middle party to choose from.

The biggest haters seem to be our political party discourses! They hate the poor Natz, or they love the poor and want more of them Labeen.

No wonder those in the middle are leaving and wages continue to lose ground to OZ and more dysfunctional people are coming to NZ to replace them with free welfare to those that complain the most.

Too much political engineering in NZ politics and not enough focus on running the country long term so that NZ does not deteriorate into a basket case like the US (capital protests) and the UK (Brexit) when similar polarising political groups (without a central ground) have wrecked havoc on the country.

  6. Just like Labour are doing now. As well as loading up homeless people living in motels with massive amounts of debt.

There is no difference between the Nats and Labour when it comes to the poor , impoverished and homeless who are mainly beneficiaries.

    • Do you ever actually think about what you write before you commit to print? You do know that the motel solution was actually utilised by the government under Paula Bennetts watch as minister of MSD… don’t you? Or are you just another of the mindless ditto heads that I’ve come across since arriving back in 2020? It sure sounds like that to me.. Seriously lad, ignorance of history, and especially recent history, is no excuse to spout utter nonsense… Do your research, and properly this time, and then try to make the clams your at present.. I dare you to open your eyes and see reality for once.. NZ, under John Key , became a third world country in many ways, and most of those ways were profitable for the parties sponsors.. But what about the actual kiwis? what’s to be done with them, except shoot them once the anger starts to get right out of hand? I’d hate to think that NZ’s “future” is no more than a return to the days of Georgian England, and the atrocities perpetrated on the general population they were past masters at… But that’s where NZ is heading… with the enthusiastic support of the deluded, the greedy, and the incurably bigoted (money, race, religion, take your pick)..

  7. It’s not unique to National of course but the reality is they have no vision because most of them are yard dogs. That’s coming from the likes of Chris Finlayson ( in his latest book) and Hooton (reviewing it) I was so glad to see that Finlayson despised Paula Bennett. May be Finlayson is a bit of a snob and I don’t agree with some that he rated highly but at least you could find a National man with enough honesty to say what Bennett was.

    • Yes Benett was appalling as a minister, lying about meth houses and giving out private details on solo mothers.
Her own personal background gives an indication of who she is and brilliant that someone as intelligent as Finlayson is prepared to call her out.
Hardly surprising her reputation as Pullya Benefit.
National is the last party to support those truly in need and the useless Upstonherself is another Pullya Benefit.
Meanwhile whatyoutalkingaboutWillis has a full page article about her personal life in the National party NZ Herald today .
Labour may want a $55 mill media bias refund as they’re not getting value for money.

  8. The question is then which Party is pissing the voters more .Labour that has not full filled an dramatic change especially for the poor and their families or National that say they will get tough on criminals and benefituries but are perceived to be also looking after their wealthy friends. I think it is wishful thinking on your part that National are losing their appeal to the swing voters. Many I speak to are more inclined to say both are ineffective and find it harder and harder to make a firm choice.

  9. Enough New Zealanders have done it tough in the 2000s as members of the precariat or as unpaid workers, to know the truth of the 21st century labour market. Hopefully they will see through Baldrick’s moralistic Bennie Bashing. “War on the Poor” is an essential part of dog eat dog neo liberalism–which requires winners & losers–especially losers. Low unemployment is the capitalists worst nightmare, so the natzos are squeezing the few “Job Seekers” who probably should be left alone without WINZ/MSD hounding them. It is cynical vote herding, as unsavoury as Mrs Shipleys TV ads urging kiwis to spy on their neighbours and ‘dob in a bludger’.

The Stats need to be collated from screeds of reports, but if you check out the Govt. quarterly Household Labour Force Survey you can soon work out roughly how many people are working, not working, partly working, cross referenced with all sorts of other categories–region, industry, age, gender, unpaid assisting a family business, self employed, Local Govt.figures, etc. etc.

Mr “Upper Room” does not seem that Christian at all when it comes to the vulnerable!

    • The Christian churches have been infiltrated by business and its methods, there are agencies that will advise churches on how to run more efficiently. And there are Prosperity churches basking in the taxation goodwill based on their charity work, supposed. Let’s clean up the churches, take away their taxation holiday. Make them pay GST which they can apply to be returned in certain cases. There is no such thing as a free lunch someone said, probably a CEO on half a mill a year at bottom. It would be a good feeling for the churches to attempt to run on lower income and cheaper ways of carrying out their mission to the poor. Mother Theresa now Saint, said that the people in rich cities were poorer than the people she worked with, poor in spirit. I bet Luxurious is clean round the bend, and most of these quotes from Mother Theresa wouldn’t apply to him and his ilk.
“Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless.”
“The most terrible poverty is loneliness and the feeling of being unloved.”
“If we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other.”
“Let no one ever come to you without leaving better and happier.,,,

  10. Luxona and Shipley are equally as stupid as each other.

Both well out of their depth..
No knowledge.. just parrots to the same old narrative..

His interview on TV1 breakfast the other morning confirmed it.

  11. Excellent points Martyn and you refer to hate there is also derision, It’s based on a couple of viewpoints – one I’ve got it you haven’t haha. If you had any useful gifts you would not be in your sorry impoverished state – that shows you are useless and it’s costing us achievers to keep you alive.

And two, it advances the class-based society, taking us back to ideas current in the early 1900’s. And these are very hard to shift,

I’ve been reading some Georgette Heyer and Catherine Cookson’s Black Velvet Gown which are mainly about how women and their men from low-base society cope with the haughty ways of the gentry who would be callous or even vicious when their privileges were disturbed or threatened in some way.

Labour are the people who ought to be leading in the road to advancing lower income people and encouraging NZ-made goods and advanced skills and education both trade and practical for life (including literacy and a love of reading as much as physical activity, numeracy, understanding micro economics – the multiplier and marginal utility, the difference between the CPI inflation registers and what is felt in society, and why stats are said to lie, human behaviour, how to mediate in conflict, living skills, how to plan, how to run a meeting, how to take notes, how to prevent the self-obsessed from dominating a meeting and enable attendees to write down their concerns so to consider them and then state concisely, the value of local government and how to participate and influence and be expressive, how to form communities that consider each other) all these are absolutely necessary in a debased society being broken up by natural disasters.

In Nelson we have made the decision to build the library expected to cost $44 million (but we know it will be more), but we have just had a supposed 100 year? flood 10 years after a similar one. This has washed out our water pipeline which we thought we had made secure; the Mayor says that it will take years to repair. NZ Geographic have a statement from a climate economist that many coastal properties will be uninsurable after 2030. Nelson city flatlands are over a swamp and flood in storms, high tides, surges; the rain is eroding the hills which slide over roads and end up in the sea. (Do any people remember the big slide in Dunedin in 1979 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1979_Abbotsford_landslip.

The planners and pollies have visions of stately civic buildings and chicken coops for the peeps, and all built on debt, paid for by rates which are an impost on ordinary people receiving less and less income, to the extent they have to sell their houses, previously affordable and live – where? The buildings are expected to last for 30 years but built using vertical concrete slabs with big bolts connecting them at the top, bottom and a couple in the middle. Can we have any confidence in these after the Christchurch fiasco? And the planners and advisors and regulators and inspectors?

But we are always encouraged to think fiesta, be happy, we know what we are doing while we administer to you something that won’t be good for your health. The pollies’ visions are more relevant apparently than those of ordinary citizens, but we have found that theirs are actually nightmares, yet citizens go on feeling our way forward in hope, but end up like zombies who have lost all concept of humanity. That’s probably a description of those who vote National. That’s why they can do what they do and propound it as sensible, correct behaviour.

Our political scene is not modern as in enlightened, intelligent, thoughtful, rational and progressive.. We’ve got malign National, and treasonable Labour feathering their own nests, making statements, with extra strong anti-perspirant to appear cool under often mean or vacuopus media questioning, and it’s all a circle of self-promotion. Soon pollies will find a way of never getting together with the real constituents outside the bubble, we will consult with them face to face, only ours will have real bodies attached, and they will beam holograms to the venue, or ‘hollowgrams’.

Well explained for even the meanest intellect, in all meanings of mean!

    • I said this: But we are always encouraged to think fiesta, be happy, we know what we are doing while we administer to you something that won’t be good for your health.
That doesn’t mean that I supporrt anti-vaxxers. A few of them can justify their stance because of their health makeup but most are irresponsible to those around them and expect medical help if they get sick.

But looking at what has been administered to us, government has been unable to limit people entering NZ as incubators with Covid or with new varieties and the whole idea of opening NZ up to the world has brought us lasting grief from overseas landlords and bugs and plant diseases etc. We needed to have a properly built gate at the borders, not that Tarnaki gate approach which can be just driven over, and will rise up again, at a bit of a drunken angle though I think.

  12. Shipley’s welfare reforms destroyed us. The smash to neoliberal Labour’s volley-up. And then Helen and Jacinda unwilling to repair us.

  13. On RNZ:
This is fucked in a synchronous sort of way.
I loath the natzo’s and equally, I loath the worthless paper Trojan horse, more the dodgy donkey, that labour is.
rnz. The puff piece brain farts of six figure patsies to a sick and limping politic.
“Thousands of extra workers to be allowed into New Zealand”

FUCK LABOUR! And lest their little black hearts are all a flutter; FUCK NATIONAL TOO!
You fuckers don’t deserve the respect of us indulging you in an election process. All you deserve is to run while fucking screaming. Not angry, just sayin’. Actually, a bit angry.

  14. He’s good at coming up with plans to drive New Zealand deep deep deep down into the ground and that’s about it at this time.

    • Without doub5the last Nact government will go.down.as the most divisive, separatist, wage stagnant government in.history.

  15. Shipley, appointed leader after a nats coup. Her first go at the ballot box, led the nats to a slaughter at the ballot box, then, now, they have another bull to lead them, he reminds me of the tusker, without the cunning, he is dog tucker, and will not be around leading the next election

  16. NONE OF THEM I AM NOT PART OFT,JIST A SOCIALIST. THEY BLOCK MY BEING, PICTURE THEY NEED NOT TO BLOCK ME, SAID IM IM NOT A ROBOT. THEY WHANT TO ABUSE MORE EXPLOIT THOSE I COMMENT WITH. AINT FACEBOOK JIST A GREED MANIPULATION. facebook how manipualtive they do
