The Taxpayer’s Union Curia Poll is out and it’s bad news for the Right…

Labour – 35.2%

National – 34%

ACT – 11%

Green – 9.5%

Māori Party – 3.5%

Other – 4.7%

…the shine is now off Aloha Luxon.

His manipulation of Kiwi’s cost of living pain only to holiday in Hawaii while pretending to be in Te Puke is a political duplicity that once seen can’t be unseen.

National have misread the wider room, by attacking young people on welfare they are attracting angry vote, but alienating the middle who appreciate the universal experience of covid requires compassion not draconian bullshit.

National have no new ideas and the grumpy centre who flirted with Luxon are now seeing the extreme conflict politics of ACT and are walking away from that.

While the centre pulls back, polarisation increases and other pushes close to 5% threshold.

Wait until the economic impacts of Russia’s gas strangulation in winter on Europe begin.

    • Just remember fools. Right and Left politics only exists in your fantasies. The reality is they’re all still neoliberal which means we lose and they make massive coin. Aye roger? You know you’re going to die, and probably soon. And do you know, that when you do, you’re going to have to bare witness to your judgement. Were you a good team player roger? Were your intentions honourable? Did you really mean what you said? Or did you say what you thought was a convincing lie to entice people to trust you so you could make off with the $-proceeds of the country you’ll leave in ruins? What would your pigs think?

  1. This would be during the Big Sam drama and before the good doctor drama. I wouldn’t read anything into it – the housewives will flip again when they realize Labour are just the same. Of more interest should be the “others” if the majority is NZ First this is dangerously close to Winston being back.

  2. News today that workers have had their biggest pay increase for 20 years underlines the fact that National and ACT must be kept out of power. YOU WILL NEVER GET A PAYRISE UNDER NATIONAL. EVER.

      • Why do you want wages held down? Wages should go up, every single year. Workers in this country deserve and need decent payrises. People like you want to deliberately withhold much needed pay increase.

    • Well we have to since Labour has burnt the economy with inflation.

Getting a 5% pay rise with 7% inflation is still going backwards

        • Bob and RB. What has Luxon said that will do anything positive to address rent and food? He has already said he wants to drive up property by removing the bright line test and won’t do anything except follow the CC recommendations. Of course he will do his best to drive down wages but that won’t help will it.

          • Ii personally don’t care about Luxon and N as i will not vote for them.
What matters though is that despite increases in pay people still don’t earn enough to pay rent, pay electricity, pay food, and maybe safe a dollar. Hence why we have so many people who work on benefits.

            • “What matters though is that despite increases in pay people still don’t earn enough to pay rent, pay electricity, pay food, and maybe safe a dollar. Hence why we have so many people who work on benefits.” and the solution to this is?

perhaps tighter controls on how much rent can be charged and higher wages that don’t require government subsidies?

i eagerly await your answer, as i would be interested to hear what your suggestions for solutions to these problems.

              • oh well rent caps would be a way to go, but then i am not a majority labour government sitting there twiddling their thumbs and the min wage.
you can not increase the min wage enough, ever, to make up for the next 10% increase in rent. We have seen this every year now since labour won, and we are still in the same boat, fact more people then ever are not in housing but in cars and rundown motels in Rotorua and elsewhere. Go figure.

              • Tighter controls on rent will inflate the problem not fix it. If you want to control rents, then you have to control all the cost associated to the property as well. Bankrupting landlords doesn’t equate to more and cheaper rental accommodation.

                • How can you justify landlord doubling their rent?

Even if you completely removed all rental property regulations, landlords would still jack rents up.

                • Rent control ould be used to regulate what is rented for how much. I.e. no public transport, no shops, cheaper rent, small old house, no parking, no garden, cheaper rent etc etc etc..
You could think a bit further then the fact that Landlords translate their mortgage + maintenance + profit = rent. Paying mortgage is for the ownership, paying rent is for the use. Two different shoes. And if a landlord were to bankrupt themselves because they could only charge 600 rather then 650 (+ 10 % increase annually) then their business model sucks and they need to rethink that and maybe they need to sell up and invest elsewhere. Water/Electricity would be a good bet for the future.
Also, banks could refuse to lend on housing equity on anything that is not housing related. So no boat, no expensive car, no holiday on the mortgage. That may help underwater landlords to keep their costs in check whilst charging rents that reflect the value of the property rather then the need of the proprietor to keep up with the Joneses.

    • The pay for many has gone up dud to vast amount of OT worked due to worker shortage. Even with this increased pay some do not want to work . Sealords fishery are due to lose 10 million this year because the lack of staff means the fish cannot be processed and exported .This one example shows the state of play this government is forcing on employers .Less tax input means less money to spend on welfare hospitals education the list is endless but serious to all .
It takes a wealthy country to enact policies to prevent global warming and if we have another 3 years of this mob with Greens and Maori Party in the mix then we will be in a real mess .

      • Yeah, heaven forbid that employers have to give workers better pay and conditions, unlike your paradise of CHina or India where they work 12 hour days for 50c an hour.

      • Trevor, health workers numberi g 10s of thousands have had there base rate lifted from $5000+. Those doing extra shifts and overtime is not the reason for improved wages.
However, I agree that there will always be some, not all, that still will not want to work. Finding an answer to that issue has been going on for decades.

    • I notice you didnt mention that these payrises are barely keeping up with inflation and in many cases arent.

      Funny that.

      • National have repeatedly held wages down since 1991. I think we just need to let inflation run for a bit so people can earn a decent wage. How would you like it if you were on the same real wage for 30 years. Because that is what a lot of workers had to deal with in this country.

        • They just followed Labour and Roger Douglas’s cabals lead. Remember Labour is the genesis of neoliberalism and they haven’t stopped.
Inflation will chew up the wage increases because before all of this they were 38+ years behind to start with.

          • It all started with the Labour Cabal, Lange, Roger Douglas, Dick Prebble, Goff and the rich pricks in the business cabal that labours Roger Douglas put together to run the country and reform it. Cut, Slash & Burn was labours economic policy then and it still is today!

Here’s something to jog your memory.
            https://www.nzonscreen.com/title/someone-elses-country-1996

    • I completely agree with you on that point. I have just received a pay rise which I am pretty certain I would not have got if National were in power right now.

  3. I saw Wellington Free Ambulance and emergency services heading up towards Aro Valley earlier overnight.
Probably what they really needed was a veterinarian surgeon specialising in the cardiac arrest of penguins.
Tough shit though I ‘spose. INZ doesn’t want to let them into the cuntry.

  4. Can’t wait for the Gaslighting Sharma Karma poll!

That’ll flip the poll leader that’s for sure.

    • Unless Dr. Sharma comes up with something stronger than paracetamol, he’ll barely register in the next poll.

  5. If the left can only get a couple of points out of the shit weeks for National and the leader over the time of the poll then it is the left that needs to worry .The next poll will be impacted by the Sharma mess and the signs of a party in disarray and not capable of leadering the country

  6. So Labour + Greens + Maori Party could form a government. Not quite the five headed Hydra of years ago, but enough to frighten some people…..

  7. I agree, the blind Nat voters are finally seeing through the Tencel Man (Slippery and a little shiny, supposedly good for you and looks great after 100 outings). Luxon’s preferred PM has dropped 2.9%.

However where those votes are going is quite mixed. Labour is not the main beneficiary.

Looking solely at the Curia poll, Act has actually risen 1% and this tracks with what I have been seeing online and IRL about lifetime Nats being disgruntled with Luxon’s inability to ‘take a stand’ and a general fear that National will not reverse Labours perceived egregious mistakes eg: 3 Waters, Co Governance. Labour has risen .5%, Greens 1% and Other 1.4%.

Also, worth noting that the Curia poll is somewhat different in that it looks solely at ‘decided’ voters intentions only. Meaning more people abstain from it potentially.

    • Curio/taxpayers union are the hard right wing tory NATZ supporters who run the poll would be suspect with their polls. To allow labour to be ahead of the tories would suggest that they pulled some of labour’s numbers back. As the experts said before, its too early to speculate who will win in 1 years time – only loser tory supporters have been believing the polls up to this time but as we see above they must be depressed today/nite.

  8. Polls are great when they confirm what you believe, and kinda suck when they don’t. Enjoy Ze Big Sauzarge Natzos!

The reality is there are fuck all polls run nationwide anyway a regular basis these days.

  9. My my how the table turns and we have some sour puss comments today this shows a trend that being Te Pati Maori may decide.

    • It’s not necessarily a race or ethnicity issue Michelle, and not particularly helpful to keep peering at everything through that lens.

  10. The pay for many has gone up dud to vast amount of OT worked due to worker shortage. Even with this increased pay some do not want to work . • You want the flood the country with immigrants to hold down wages and crowd New Zealanders out of jobs.

Your vision of NZ is a sweatshop economy, like CHina or INdia, where workers get bugger all.

      • If you can take your blinkers off and read about the situation in Queenstown over the last week where businesses are forced to close due to no staff and visitors not being able to spend money .I know you hate businesses and the hard working owners but if these place cannot open they earn no money and pay no taxes . These jobs are the ones that Luxon want to give to the 180000 on the benefit if they can get out of bed .

        • Perhaps if the business owners you love so much paid a decent wage, and gave them breaks and didn’t treat their workers like dirt, they might have people wanting to work for them

Hospitality workers are treated worse than Chinese sweatshop workers.

        • i’ve worked in QT, the wages were below national average and the rent was equal too, if not higher than, Auckland. if i was offered a job down there again, after i had finished laughing, i would say “no”.

i have a little sympathy for the businesses down there, but not much.

        • Trevor can you break down accommodation costs and cost of living costs for Queenstown?
There’s a big reason why Queenstown can’t attract employees.

    • Not sealord, but plenty to discourage workers into that industry just from Talleys. Clean it up! Sadly a broken toe seems to get a bigger fine from wokesafe than the NZ’s fishing industry death traps. Disgusting.

Fishing company Talley’s Group fined over decapitation of worker

“Nelson-based fishing company Talley’s Group has been fined $73,520 and ordered to pay $21,000 reparations to the family of a man who was decapitated after a broken rope snapped back while hauling in a net full of tuna.”

“Maritime New Zealand maritime compliance general manager Harry Hawthorn said this was a “horrific accident” which highlighted what should have been done to manage the risks involved in deep sea fishing.

“In this case, the rope had already broken once, but the reasons for that had not been considered. The rope had been repaired, not replaced, and it broke again. The dangers of the snap-back zone had been identified but crew were still required to work in that area.

“In 2015 Talley’s was found guilty of the same charge after crewman Cain Adams died after falling 6.9 metres through an open hatch on the Capt MJ Souza, when the vessel was in port in Nelson.

The company was fined $48,000 and ordered to pay $35,000 in reparations.”

  11. Nationals one trick, one dimensional rich man’s tax cuts scare the daylights out of enough voters who want a health system they can access but know they can’t with tax cuts.

I don’t read much into the Uffindel drama in this poll as it’s old news that National routinely pick privileged duds, so much so it comes across as just another storm in a National Party gin glass. And I expect Sharma will just become another whingy whiny entitled annoyance. Actually, he’s there already!

The real problem for National is Luxon remains dull, unimaginative and unlikable, like Nationals offerings! At a time when peak dissatisfaction with Labour is present!

It’s no longer enough to not be Judith Collins!

    • Totally agree. I do see that the government is stepping up in a bid to at least attempt to meet the expectations of our country’s healthcare workers but unfortunately there’s still many other aspects besides pay which need to be addressed as soon as possible. Let us not forget that our health system began coming apart at the seams under this country’s three successive John Key led National governments.

  12. What’s a matter Pip do you have the pips, so if its not a race or ethnicity issue is it a class and religious one ? And I am just repeating the trend.

  13. Silly stuff. This poll covers the Ufindell suspension. The next poll will feature the Sharma affair. Pssst…National will be back in the lead again.

      • All the way to the election mate…the sad sad education tragedy unfolding will blow up in Labour’s face. They destroyed everything that was good to appease the lowest common denominator.

        • Education declining for over a decade coward cabbage. Started with National underfunding Education you that, another thing Labour are having to fix .
When the greater public do their homework unlike yourself with blue tinted glasses, they’ll cotton on how one should never trust National. Only your mate dumb Bob believes Luxon giving himself an $18000 pay increase, yes increase, whilst others get $100 is a brilliant policy. 65 % of the population agree including National voters.
Keep banging the blue drum as the sound keeps diminishing.

  14. Jacinda and her Labour mates should enjoy their bit of polling success while they can. When the greater public cottons on how much they are fucking up the once world-class education system, then it’s all over for them. Ironic that these so called highly educated student politicians can let education slide so much down the dunny. It must be part of their secret and cynical plan – dumb down the voters and keep them dependent on the state…on Labour. That’s the real scandal here….not Sharma.

    • There’s certainly a lot more to come on that matter. Jacinda Ardern looks as though she’s almost ducking for cover already. Her reasoning isn’t stacking up, and she’s making minor blunders now. It all comes back to how much you control your Ministers. Helen Clark had a tight grasp around the political neck of every single one of her Ministers whereas her successors as PM since 2008 have not.

  15. Jacinda Ardern is being rewarded for all her hard work since 2017 with consistently high polls. John Key polled high consistently also but bear in mind that he had the support of the financial almighty behind him, the Rothschilds, Sir Michael Fay, etc.

  16. Labeen being lulled into false sense of security by continuing all the things that the middle class hate that the Natz capitalise on, but Labeen think are wonderful, until outlined 2 weeks before the election by Natz . Worked for Natz in 2014 – an election they should not have won.

  17. Who has any idea how this will change in 2023?

    Key statistics
The total number of votes cast was 2,919,086.
The number of special votes was 504,625, 17% of total votes (2017 – 17%).
68% of votes were cast in advance (2017 – 47%).
82.2% of people who were enrolled voted (2017 – 79.8%). This is the highest turnout since 1999 (84.8%).
