American Right Wing Christian Scum win: Abortion banned in US – weep at the horror

They’ve fucking done it, Trump’s true legacy of malice has been exposed, American Right Wing Christian Scum have won, and Abortion has just been banned by the Republican rigged Supreme Court!

Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade

“Women will die”: Chicago health care worker describes concern about illegal abortions

Ann Marie Staff, a 59-year-old registered nurse from outside Chicago, got news of the court’s decision on her walk from a New York City hotel to Washington Square Park.

Sitting on a park bench amid vendors, other tourists and students from nearby New York University, she quietly described the moment as “overwhelming.”

I have to hand on heart tell you I never believed Liberals who claimed Roe vs Wade could ever be overturned!

I thought it was something we told our daughters as a scary joke while tucking them into bed at night, ‘You go to sleep right now or the Republicans will sneak in and take away your basic human rights!”

Make no mistake this is a far right Christian attack on the rights of women backed by a lunatic fringe of 30% dictating to the other 70% something as intrinsic as basic health services.

This is the true legacy of spite Trump planted and its toxic harvest will literally kill.

That’s why, after watching all those right wing Christian judges make false promises to never tamper with abortion rights, we urgently require the issue to be put back to Luxon and get a clear agreement that ACT will quit any Government that attempts to restrict abortion rights and Nicola Willis will quit as Deputy of National.

On such a day of horror, we must pledge to fight that we can NEVER allow this dynamic to ever have this power in NZ!

No one is safe if the State claims this autonomy over any one of our bodies, women have every right to expect a free abortion with wrap around counselling services if required.

End of story.

Luxon can do the 45 second CEO soundbite but he has zero intellectual curiosity, he is a devout evangelical Christian whom believes his wealth is proof positive that Jesus loves him. His policies will make things far far far worse in this country in terms of housing, inequality and poverty so don’t pretend voting against Jacinda for him makes you radical or edgy, it makes you a fuckwit, especially if he has some devout desire to burn abortionists.

Some will argue I’m being unfair to Chris who has stated that it isn’t an issue, but he agreed abortion is murder and I’m sick of being surprised when right wing Christians promise one thing and then do another when they are in power.

I’m totally over that!

Weep for America, weep for the Home of the Land of the Free, weep as these Scum molest women’s rights by stealing abortion from them.

What a tragedy. What a chilling terrible tragedy.

Our deepest condolences to all rational citizens of the planet, today is a dark one where the spite of religion blots the sun of reason from our sight. We must live in its shadow of gleeful  ignorance and it is an abomination.

Weep dear friends, today the American Right Wing Christian Scum won a majority battle in their war against our collective human rights. Mourn your grief but plot our vengeance.

Our daughters, our mothers, our aunties, our lovers, our wife’s, our girlfriends, our friends, our sisters, our fellow citizens, all our people deserve far better than the damage of today.

  1. I’m very pro-abortion, but Roe v Wade was a very poor and weak decision by the Supreme Court, because it essentially created a right to privacy that had never been acknowledged before. So it was always going to be attacked and eventually fail. The weight of precident kept it in place for this long.

The US needs a constitutional amendment that enshrines bodily autonomy or personal privacy; that would protect LGBTQI, vaxxers, reproductive freedoms, etc…

    • This can only occur in a NE American and West Coast American secession from the Union – they would not get enough states to ratify.

    • I think scum when specifically referring to Kavanaugh and that Amy what’sherface is pretty accurate. Clarence Thomas is another. Apparently had no idea his wife was fundraising for stop the steal and was actually present on January 6th. Thomas wants to go after marriage equality and contraception.

        • No John, I was not suggesting he should keep his old lady in line I am quite certain he is a lying bastard who knew what his wife was up to.

    • I feel differently: I dislike people who have the puffed-up arrogance to impose their cranky religious standards on the rest of us.

        • Bob if you mean the failure to decriminalise weed in this country then I agree that’s example of the god bothers imposing their religious standards though misinformation. What’s another one?

          • Not sure I agree Wheel on that issue, I didnt perceive a big Christian movement behind that and had formed the impression it was the more ‘tough on crime’ conservatives driving it.

If you want a good example of religious views driving something, try euthanasia which passed although the Catholic church had a huge lobby against it.

So I guess the fact it didnt pass is an example of democracy at work. All views offered and allowed and the voters decide. The way it has always been done in this country.

    • Personally thought was quite restrained comment, considering what associations and groups interests this ruling seems to have come from.

  2. I agree Martyn that it is a totally appalling state of affairs and that the Supreme court was stacked to the gills with republican nutjobs by Trump in an unprecedented and in the end, barely legal manner. I was so hoping Ruth G could last out just a few months longer.

But I disagree with you as to motivation. I read something recently by a constitutional lawyer that said the issue was a Republican and in particular, libertarian bugbear. Sure there are plenty of fundamentalists who are anti abortion but for many, the issue was state over reach.

I dont pretend to understand the workings of the US system but the issue is in large part about what is seen as the States’ right to decide. At the time of Wade vs Roe it seemed like a large slap for democracy (from their perspective) that the judiciary could unilaterally decide what was seen as a constitutional? issue.

I think it was a bit like having Co Governance just decided and enacted by the government without reference to the people. No doubt it was a democracy vs Human Rights issue and that won out and apparently the animosity has existed for 1/2 a century.

Doesnt make it right but I am just saying, you cant lay it all at Christianity’s door. Though I would agree, it would be nice to be reassured that any religious leaning PM would be clear about where they stand. I think that saying Abortion is not for me is a long way away from it’s continuation – and I think Abortion should not be for you either. So clarity before the election would be nice.

    • doesn’t ‘the constitution’ namely the first amendment guarantee separation of church and state? and we all know how much the yanks lurvvvve their ‘amendments’

      • I guess they’d have to look at the composition and beliefs of the Supreme Court to argue that one. Did they have more general right wing values or was the motivation religious?

        • @Fantail, yes the decision can be seen as ideologically motivated by the Christian right, they key goal for decades. However you are correct that legally this was a states rights issue. Which while I am pro-choice I have to flag that Martyn’s article is hyperbolic, abortion has NOT been banned in the US, it is up to individual states to decide. So in blue states there is no change, it is red (purple?) states where abortion will be banned or constrained.

RvW decision can be seen as a victory for the Christian right and social conservatives, but the Democrats have snatched defeat from the jaws of victory here.

At any point in the last almost 50 years, when Democrats had the majority in Congress, they could have enacted legislation or a constitutional amendment to protect the right of abortion. The Supreme Court exists to interpret and adjudicate law not make it, that is the job of Congress. That they did not do this suggests Democrats were not confident they’d get the support of their own representatives, a bad look. They are incompetent and Congress prefers to kick any issue of note to the Supreme Court, or it is politically expedient to keep a grievance issue alive rather than attempt to resolve it.

It’s also worth remembering that RBG could have retired under Obama and been replaced by a liberal justice. However since Hillary was sure to win, RBG wanted to retire during the administration of the first female president of the United States. Further had the DNC not anointed deeply unpopular Hillary, blocked Bernie and alienated progressives, in a presidential election between two ‘populists’ Bernie would almost certainly have beaten Trump and the Supreme Court would have had new liberal justices.

I’d say DNC are heavily to blame on RvW, but I’m cynical enough to think this might be exactly what they hoped for as the backlash against this decision is about the only thing Democrats have going for them in the midterms.

It is politically expedient to keep a grievance issue alive rather than attempt to resolve it.

    • Very well put Fantail I agree entirely.
Often on this site there is only one way traffic which equates the converted speaking to the converted back scratching.

  3. If you don’t use contraception and get pregnant and don’t notice that you’ve missed your period for a few months in Waikaretu, you might need to take a bus to get to Middlemore Hospital.

If you don’t use contraception and get pregnant and don’t notice that you’ve missed your period for a few months in Texas, you might need to take a bus to get to New Mexico.

    • There was once a law where runaway slaves were returned to slave states on the grounds of property rights.

A GOP controlled Congress could easily pass laws on the matter and a GOP state could pass laws making such travel plans a crime (even confine pregnant women to their state).

      • Remembering of course that the Democrats were the slave owners party SPC.
How uncomfortable for your upside down world that Abe Lincoln was a republican.

        • FFS that was how long ago Keepcalm? What was LBJ…….southern democrat. He did more for the black people than the Republicans

Lincoln fought to stop the Southern states leaving the union. His primary motive was not about “those poor slaves”

In any case it’s a bit like saying (of the Republicans) Anakin Skywalker was once a Jedi. Didn’t stop him becoming Darth Vader.

          • Star Wars is a made up story Wheel. Sorry.

And if the “progressive” left want to cancel the say of white people over the sins of their fathers because “colonialism”, then the progressive left might not like what that means for the slave owner roots of the “progressive” Democratic Party.
I love me a good “progressive” hipocritical morality paradox.

        • Both parties underwent a polar shift during the mid-20th Century which is well document both online and in historical texts. Blacks voted for the Republicans up to the 1930’s when they slowly moved to the Democrats following the New Deal programs. The Republicans realised that they could snare conservative whites who wernt keen on blacks getting rights by using the “Southern Strategy”.

    • Yup won’t those wanting an abortion simply drive over the border to the state next door in which abortion is legal?
An incovenience yes but really is this much more than that?

    • i think you will find that texas and other “red” states are making doing exactly that illegal.

  4. That’s the thing with these judges that got appointed under Trump. It’s easy to be a liar or completely disingenuous when your whole value system is based on a myth/fairytale. Truth is just what you want to make it. A bit like ditching testaments when they don’t suit the ideas of those in control at the time.

This is the same bunch that just ruled it was unconstitutional in New York to require people to show just cause to carry weapons in public. But it’s ok to remove a woman’s control over her own body. They are just f’ing insane.

    • Agree, whatever their motivations, they are extremists. No wonder a recent poll showed only 25% support for the Supreme Court. Had been declining for some years but that is much lower than the previously low of about 35%?

  5. So, what will the Democrat do?
    A) Read the Court ruling, and then amend the law so it is lawful?
    B) Protest, blame Trump, name call —- and do sweet nothing?

I am guessing with the current crop of Democrats — it will be B)

    • Nathan the democrats can’t do much of anything once the Supreme Court have ruled I think. You would need to amend the constitution itself in this case. It now means there is no federal right and it’s now state by state.

    • Actually Nathan apparently the democrats could attempt to convert the precedent set by Roe into a federal law. How that is done no idea. As they will probably lose the mid terms that is unlikely to help!

    • Right now the left aka the Dems are all fundraising on the loss of Roe vs Wade. Vote for us or it will get worse.
Mind, Some of the left in the US have rediscovered ‘biological’ women so that could be considered a win.

  6. ……..Make no mistake this is a far right Christian attack on the rights of women backed by a lunatic fringe of 30% dictating to the other 70%……Yes quite righteous, how can 30% of the population dictate to the other 70%….. in any country around the world on what to do!

    • For some time there has been a campaign to secure power in the USA to the minority – it required control of the Supreme Court and then its sanction for states rights to determine election law (Jim Crow era like laws not just restored but expanded to GOP states nationwide).

The capacity of smaller more conservative states to win a majority in the Senate – which appoints people to the Supreme Court – was of a design to enable the land owners of these states to dominate government over the urban migrant working class.

  7. Well it is about time the people in America had another civil war. It’s obvious to everyone a civil war is what they really want.
Instead of war mongering in other people’s countries as they have been for the last 70 years and just recently with BLM and then the post-Trump, Biden election mini-revolution.
America(ns) want a blowout! They want to let off some steam. So let them!

It also might help the rest of the world too! They will probably have to recall their military personnel from around the world from their 800 military bases!

Let us hope that this happens soon. Then the world would be a much safer place for all of us.

      • I think your idea of world peace and mine are vastly different. Without the imperfect USA we would be overrun with authoritarian dictatorships, religious nut jobs are no human rights.

        • Arrrrh wrong TB. Thats the current problem and has been for centuries. Religious war monger zealots and phoney democracies.

Eg. In America. The people dont elect the President. The winner of the most college votes does. And you can buy them!

        • Americanlivesdon’tmatter.

The lives of the millions they have killed and the tens of millions they have driven from their homes in the past few decades alone do.

    • There has been effectively a cold civil war in the USA for the past 50-60 years since the Civil Rights act went through.

    • lol absolutely nothing. ‘Planned Parenthood’ and other abortion groups will raise heaps of money off this and use a small fraction of it to transport women in states where their abortion would be illegal, to get abortions in other states.

Most states will implement laws similar to those of Sweden and other civilized countries, where abortion is legal up until 18 weeks.

    • If the unfortunate souls have a bad upbringing…not much love and care , and possibly had birth problems like alcohol syndrome or drug problems….they could end up on death row….the god fearing Christian can be a fickle bitch of fate at the best of times… chewing on life’s gristle can be a jolly beggar in the land of the free….

  8. This will ensure a Trump re-election in 24. If he is still wanting it.
Watch the US mid terms in a few months, they will be very polarised, the arch conservatives basking in sucesss, America as it should be, verses the screaming rabid liberals who are seeing America as they want it to be with all there gains being lost.
The election will be a big test of what is the US today, morally liberal or conservative.

      • Standalonecomplex.
You may well be correct. Whoever the Republicans put up they will face a rabid liberal Democrat who is totally preoccupied with this judgement, with little regard to any other issue.
The Democrat will be soundly defeated. It sometime since I was back in rhe US but my observation is that for every liberal that is dismayed by this judgement there will at least two core conservatives rejoycing in it

        • i dunno, this whole abortion thing will make this next election a lot closer than we think. even with all the gerry mandering and voting restrictions, i thinka lot of republican women will secretly vote democrat. the mid terms will be interesting.

      • Agree Standalone. De Santis is an absolute wanker, but without the awkward Trump history of nailing and paying porn stars.

    • so you personally straight will be happy to pay to support ‘god’s gifts’ will you? thought not they’re precious until they’re born then it’s ‘fuck them and the donkey they rode in on’ numpty.
too many kids are a lead cause of intergeneration poverty not social welfare, welfare is very much a bottom of the cliff provision.

    • Never mind that the USA has been killing babies in Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Iraq, Afghanistan, Somalia, Libya, etc and so on.

    • Do we need more unwanted children that can finish up destroying families.
Many of the States that will now enforce the anti abortion message have no get out clause for those babies that will be born with seriously disabled or those caused by rape or incest .This will create more lifetime distress.

    • Babies don’t receive souls until time of birth (well established in true spiritual circles). Bible bashing anti abortionists can’t see past the flesh. Shows how unconnected they are to spirit. Jmo

  9. It may get worse. Justice Alito said this decision applied only to abortion yet from the NY Times;

“But Justice Thomas, a member of the majority, issued a concurring opinion that sent a different message. He wrote that it was strictly true that the majority opinion addressed only abortion, but he said that its logic required the court to reconsider decisions about contraception, gay sex and same-sex marriage.”

The poisonous politics of the US is their citizens real enemy!

  10. Stop all the hand wringing and moaning.
1: Abortion was never a constitutional issue and should not have been a SCOTUS decision.
2: When they passed the law RBG said at the time she was uncomfortable with the decision.
3: It will be up to each state, as it should always have been, to make a law for their state.

Basically each state determine their own abortion law, so stop the hand wringing as Roe Vs Wade was always going to be overturned at some stage, that stage happens to be now.

    • ah! The first sensible comment!
      Thanks.
The decision by SCOTUS is a legalistic one: There is no reference to abortion as a right in the Constitution, so it becomes a ‘states rights’ issue, always bearing in mind that the USA isn’t a country but a federation of states.
Each state must write its own law in this regard and many already have. For example in Utah they have granted unlimited access to abortion for up to 12 weeks into a pregnancy, and for valid medical reasons thereafter.

    • explain, mitch mcconnell promising the get abortion made felony murder…that stumps states rights which has always been a red herring…
I’m looking forward to the red states doing a brexit and relieving the blue states of the burden of supporting them.

  11. We had a chance to do something with our super majority, the right was just extra about doing something of there own. Pity.

  12. This is the ultimate test for Americans–women and supporters should not give one vote to Republicans in the mid terms.

What amounts to forced carrying to term, and birth, is Handmaids Tale for real. Margaret Attwood might have a grim satisfaction in “told you so” when a minority of would be theocrats can get away with this attack on all women.

A lot will be written yet but as many have said…essentially forced birth…in the US that has
    •no universal healthcare
•high rate of maternal mortality for a developed country
    •no universal paid parental leave
    •no universal sick leave
•expensive childcare & early child hood education

  13. The woke fail to understand that they caused this by pushing way too far and turning everyone who is not them into a supposed evil aggressor. The faux empathy princess has created a monster here in NZ too that will not be easy to contain. Class/race/sex/age wars coming to NZ 2024.

  14. I told everyone that this was going to happen, but no one believed me.

The USA is headed towards a Christian theocracy with white supremacist characteristics. I thought Biden winning the presidency would stop that slide, but it seems to have sped it up.

Christians will stop at nothing to impose their faith on others. In some cases at gunpoint.

Though I don’t believe that Luxon will try and ban abortion. National have always believed in the Gospel of Profit, and will impose that, first and foremost.

  15. These nutters care so much for the unborn American but when they are born they couldn’t care less about them. America should overturn the right for these nutters to dictate their religious gibberish to the country.

    • The US fundamentalist right wing label abortion murder, so now the US supreme court deny American women the constitutional right to a safe termination should it be required, while at the same time passionately defending the right to bear arms!!! WTF!

If Trump and his ilk call this move a step forward, then it’s a guaranteed retrograde step affecting human rights. I dread to think what’s next on the Republican agenda?

With this extremely serious issue in mind, the conservative fundamentalist Christian man of seven houses and leader of the Opposition Christopher Luxon, needs to clarify his and National’s position on abortion rights in NZ with no BS attached, before next year’s election.

      • And America has the nerve to suggest they are liberating women all around the world with their invasions!

  16. Te Reo will never over turn abortion laws here. Different demographic and different non conservative politics.

As for the ruling meh. Individual states can apply there own laws ala democracy. Don’t like it – move to California or New York.

  17. US right wing christian fascists have been spending big on this fight for decades. Some of those funds had already found their way into NZ evangelical churches and pressure groups.
Now their battle is won in the USA expect more of those funds to be directed outside the US to places like NZ.
So don’t be surprised when the topic of abortion, largely put to bed in the 1980s, will within the next few years again rear its head in NZ .

    • Good point Richard C I think these people are fanatical and under it is a distaste for women having autonomy. What a cheek that we big bruisers, or slim slippery eels can’t be in charge and women dare to look us in the eye and speak their truths and feelings.

    • indeed christie, the same dodgy money that was behind the the rag tag beehive mob…why no detailed report of the funding on that attempt to subvert our democracy? after all they’d be quick enough if it was the good old cold war ‘moscow gold’.

  18. How about the church stays out of the state, and the state stays out of the church ? The state runs and oversees worldly issues. The Church oversees spiritual issues. Leave them both to go their own ways.

  19. After reading martins full article one piece reminds me of a true obeservation. America land of the free and the home of the depraved.

Never has it been any truer than all this gymnastic flip floppery we are witnessing.

  20. ” These nutters care so much for the unborn American but when they are born they couldn’t care less about them ”

That is the best summed statement i have read yet.

Depending on the state will the termination be murder and at which degree , or manslaughter which again depending on the state can be severe.

I wonder how many woman across America are for or against this ruling.

    • Probably a lot of USA women can’t be arsed about it – doesn’t affect them and ‘those people’ shouldn’t be having sex if not married or can’t afford more children, etc. Women aren’t always empathetic with other women’s problems; it’s a lack that those claiming sisterhood, largely a middle-class minority anyway, don’t acknowledge. And so it goes …

  21. The US Supreme court has gone rogue and the conservative judges on it on basically need to be taken out anyway possible including assassination/execution. The Israelis do arrest/executions packages all the time in occupied Palestine and the West isn’t bothered. Dont see another way if stacking the court with non religious zealots isnt on the cards.

  22. Are there no left wing Christian’s?
I suggest there are more left than right wing Christians in the world.
I could be wrong but doubt it.

  23. Time to send NATO into America and free the women Jacinda? Fight for their bodily autonomy like you did against the fanatic Covidians? Oh wait…

  24. Or have the Tories just written a line in the sand to the Whigs and dared them to cross it in protest action as a distraction to the Jan6 riot investigation despite no one watching it to gain some sort of greater moral stance?

    If that makes sense,

  25. I would have thought “abortion” would have been a general referendum decision. It would be in the most democratic countries of the world – eg Switzerland.

      • Or selling off power companies even after a referendum voted down that issue. They call that a dictatorship.

    • Well yes, that’s why in a very democratic country like Switzerland the law allows abortions… up to 12 weeks (slightly lower than most European countries, but not an absolute free for all as politicians decided in NZ).

  26. Once again this legislation has proved me right…and I don’t really take pleasure in saying that….and I have said this before on this site…How can you trust someone…an adult…who has an imaginary friend…children I can understand…but adults…..and to have the leader of the opposition who possibly could be the next Prime Minister of New Zealand being a god fearing man……how do you balance the rationale of invisible friend and running the country…Forget America…it’s now in melt down…Mexico and Canada will be building walls soon to keep the refugees out…The vultures are circling Eastern Europe…But on the bright side the arms industry in USA is very busy…all is not lost…God Bless America…

  27. All good in the US (sarcasm), in NZ they are working on bringing back GMO, political extradition and nukes with a Labeen government worrying more about Gib and the endless task forces, than human rights.

Sadly when the lefties go woke and pro globalism (jobs to the cheapest country with free trade deals, low wages, more competition for jobs, yeah go lefties!), the backlash brings back the right and the result is division.

Sadly human rights and policy worked hard for being overturned as the new lefties pursue their own agendas and create unexpected and backwards backlashes.

  28. Abortion is murder! Its great day for America thankyou Mr Trump for making America great again!
