  1. For farmers wanting to work with new methods to build resilience etc etc. (Not for ones with silly childish placards about pretty communists, looking round with a ain’t-I-smart expressions for pats on the book for the simpletons.) Mulloon Institute in Australia has been working for about two decades for breakthrough and just in time to have something practical and imaginative to advance for weary, troubled farmers trying to deal with climate change, large fires etc. Have we got the nous to learn, or have we sold out so much to international buyers that they have hegemony for sucking all the goodness out of NZ farming out like a locust swarm?

  2. A good thinkpiece on the stadium in Christchurch looking at the fact there is one in existence in Dunedin that was costly but bold. Question will it be gazumped by Christchurch?

And one might ponder that we still are only 5 million and long may we stay at that figure. Also it isn’t good for the economy or the climate to have the numbers of tourists we had in the near past.

We seem to worship sport, particularly rugby, and yet limit spending and care to large number of our offspring, and can enjoy watching sport while the poor people fester. Put sport, stadiums and the poor and rejected together and let’s have colosseum gladiators fighting, bullfights etc. Do we want to go down that road? It seems we do or are happy to sit and harp about matters considered proper by the PTB while children and the vulnerable dying at our feet virtually is SEP.

  3. Teling it like it is in the USA. This guy says he has a good track record in reading the nation and predicting the future. He reckons Trump could well get in again and even wreck the Constitution.

…Having accused the Democrats of rigging the last election, the MAGA Republicans are methodically pouring a putrid foundation to rig the next one. Trump could well become president again by usurping the will of the people and destroying the Constitution of the United States. After all, he subverted a founding principle of the United States – the peaceful transfer of power.

The status quo loving President Obama did not hold Bush-Cheney accountable for the malicious invasion of Iraq, and the albatross of Afghanistan was hung around his neck after he doubled down there a year after taking office. Obama also had the big bankers by the balls when they came on bended knee to the White House following the 2007 global financial meltdown they were responsible for, but to their surprise, he bowed before them and let them off the hook. That helped to pave the way for Trump.

  4. We have allowed important structural services to be lost from NZ ownership.
I think I am right that Fletchers having gib board monopoly, used to be NZ majority owned and now owned by a conglomeration of pension hedge funds whatever. I could be corrected on this.

NZ has no head for keeping safe in business world. We are very much akin to the children’s tale of Jack and the Beanstalk. Selling a material and known thing for a handful of beans – ideas and possibilities, with hidden costs often. Then when a pathway opens to new opportunities, climbs up it and becomes an opportunistic thief stealing riches from an unlikeable source. Quite amoral and lacking integrity. It will be noted that we have many failures, White Island, Erebus etc where a well-run country with properly supervised laws would have prevented this.
