Permission to speak freely: Is free speech under threat?
The cancellation was both bizarre and completely predictable. Even those who were cancelled didn’t look entirely surprised by it.
This happened in Auckland on Tuesday. Activist Daphna Whitmore hoped to present a public talk at the Auckland University of Technology (AUT) on the subject of “feminism, advocacy and free speech”.
Those on campus would have heard Whitmore lead “a discussion about free speech in the context of often polarising transgender-gender-critical feminism debate”, according to a Facebook post.
…it’s good to see Stuff following up on TDB stories, but having the wokest media in NZ (behind RNZ and The Spinoff obviously) deny there is a woke Lynch mob deplatforming and cancelling anything that triggers them is a bit like the Russian version of Seven Sharp covering military casualty rates or having mommy bloggers review Dancing with the Stars and sex toys.
I mean sure, you could have a mommy blogger review Dancing with the Stars and sex toys, but who in their right mind would read that? It would be like a Suburban Hell of mediocrity endlessly regurgitating into its own mouth.
Why would anyone read that? Why?
I’m digressing.
Personally I’m surprised Stuff hasn’t received death threats against their pets for platforming TERFs in a debate over Free Speech.
Journalists have a unique relationship with woke Twitter. If they feed the needs of their readers dogma, they get praise, if they challenge the dogma of their woke audience, they get deplatformed and cancelled.
It’s like how the Green Party is held hostage by their woke activists.
I like the punches that were pulled.
The article doesn’t note that there was an attempt to cancel Dr Bryce Edwards.
The article doesn’t note the way Rachel Stewart was cut out of MILKED or had her guns taken from her.
The article doesn’t note that there was a successful media complaint against the way the Listener 7 were treated.
The article is joyful at the end by the letter from academics calling out misogyny as the last failing roll of the dice to defend woke dogma but one could argue that misogyny is part of a stress response to wider economic and social backlashes and is as much a sign of the time as ram raids and teenagers.
This article dresses the Identitarian vs Class schism up as free speech over reaction for glorious progress, but all Stuff is attempting to do here is minimise the damage the woke Lynch mobs cause because its audience are avid lynchers.
The cult of woke and the million ideological knife fights it has caused on a thousand different social fronts will be punished when voters can vote anonymously without fear of social retribution for their views.
Pure temple politics alienates unless its your tribe doing the alienating.

I go on her blog, and all she does is bang on about trans people and how evil they are. More or less Phylis Schafly if she had Das Kapital on her bookshelf.
I don’t know much about what trans people believe but what I so know is that even low doses of hormone treatment is non reversible even though trans activists believe that it is reversible.
The fact that activists claim that if I won’t have sex with a trans (and IV stated that many times) some how means that I am masochistic or that they might commit sideways at a 20% higher rate is manipulation.
The evidence is so clear. Right now trans rights activists enjoy privileges far beyond the third world yet the western trans rights activist claim that they are the most repressed group and that totally ignores saudi princesses who are starved to death. It just takes a uniquely wonderful level of capitalism to be able to produce such stupidity.
It must be agreed that torturing children is wrong because something else is going on with trans suicide rates beginning with brainwashing them into cutting bits off themselves with a knife.
For some transpeople the costs are worth it because they can afford the treatment and we are talking about $50,000 net cost per procedure. Putting these stigmata on the hands of the next generation and the crucifix of trans rights on their backs truly is evil.

Missy can you provide some direct quotes from Daphna website (?Redline). that prove your assertion that she bangs on about how evil trans people are?
I think the real evil that is happening here is confused kids being supported to medically transition ie use puberty blockers (a drug that has been used to chemically castrate sex offenders) cross sex hormones and double mastectomies, “bottom surgery” leaving then in some cases infertile and unable to orgasm. This is in some cases while they are in their teens and unable to give informed consent. The adults around them are enabling it including teachers and some health professionals.
It is a scandal and it is evil
So what do we do with these kids then? Do you stick them in a psychopeadic ward? Beat them? Pour holy water on them. No one seems to offer solutions, instead just smearing the LGBT+ community as groomers, like what is going on the US, sure to whip up a pogrom in no time.
I’m all in favour of people being who they want to be…but irreversible cosmetic (because that’s what it is cosmetic surgery/drug intervention) on children is just wrong
nobody ever died from not having gender reassignment…they may well have suffered greatly or suicided but no one died of gender dysphoria….when people can give informed consent ‘go for gold’ but until then…
I really believe part of the problem is the ‘mee mee meee gimme now culture’ if sufferers just think twice they might change their minds, they may well not and want to forge ahead but having a cooling off period can’t be a bad thing can it?
Millsy, most of them change their minds and come to accept their bodies by the end of adolescence if a “watch and wait” approach is taken. So if every young kid with gender dysphoria is “affirmed” (how’s that for an Orwellian term) and transitioned, a whole lot of kids will be subjected to irreversible mutilation and castration that they will later regret. Not to mention the changes induced by artificial hormones. People aren’t made of Lego.

I can’t see a single article that says “how evil trans people are”, and there are articles about a wide range of topics. But I did find one article about gender ideology, with a quote that seems apropos:
“Any talk of sex being a spectrum[40] or a colonial social construct[41] needs to be treated the same as flat earth theory and young earth creationism and be ridiculed out of public discourse for being completely unscientific and ahistorical.”
Oh, she is always banging on about them. Plus ‘free speech’ and railing against vaccines and lockdown. The woman want to be the standard bearer for the post left in this country, which is basically used the the religious right to recycle their talking points
I have watched with interest everything that Stuff has produced since it praised Siouxie Wiles and Shaun Hendy for composing the complaint against the Listener letter. NOWHERE in any article since, including the Press Councils damning finding against them, have they ever mentioned Hendy and Wiles again. Seems stuff can’t quite bring itself to admit it’s been duped by false prophets. Better to pretend they simply don’t exist eh!
Wiles and Hendy are being so precious about their “duty” to act as critic and conscience of society, and speaking truth to power. But they’re just promoting government policy and the current prevailing ideology – that’s hardly speaking truth to power. And look at what they tried to do to the Listener Seven, who dared to challenge government policy – unlike Wiles and Hendy, they WERE acting as critic and conscience of society. Wiles and Hendy also showed their igorance of (or is it contempt for) principles of natural justice, when they accepted roles on the Royal Society of NZ panel set up to consider revoking the society membership of three of the Listener Seven. They saw no problem with the accusers and the judges being one and the same. A frightening level of self-righteousness and narcistic delusion.

And of course now Garth Cooper one of the Listener 7 who happens to be Maori has resigned from the Royal Society. Good on him.
If you read his CV (investing diabetes drugs and now studying dementia) it is down right embarrassing that NZ Royal Society has treated him this way (and his “colleagues” as well who are ideologically driven)
Happily, Cooper and Nola had enough presence of mind to object to the appointment of Siouxsie and Shaun Kardashian to the panel of judges.

Stuffs audience are the professional middle classes manning bureaucracy. They like to feel superior, and to virtue signal. And they dont like to think deeply or observe reality. Thats a visceral challenge to be avoided at all costs.
Stuffs challenge is related. Its revenue from a decreasing base of readership.
Free speech by contrast exists on the ever widening margins, the alt Right use them well. The Left needs to take note and use the same.
