Dredging for shellfish or bottom trawling for fish are the equivalent of carpet bombing a forest to get a rabbit for a feed.
Both should be banned completely in NZs economic zone.
The only problem with the QSM is that it is under monitored and the penalties aren’t high enough.
It is a little out of date too. Regulation and enforcement have been poor for decades.
Improve the system and add a few marine reserves that can be in place for specific time periods and rotate them in 10, 15, 20-year cycles.
