Said one Omicron virus to another, modern transport is so useful for getting around. Travel by plane – it’s so effective if you want to make your mark in the world.
Perhaps we should have the option of travelling in open trucks on a train – the Sunshine Special. Or on a train carriages with heads out of open windows like alert dogs, our long hair streaming in the wind and tongues out, avoiding 99% of known nasty viruses. Meanwhile I perhaps unfairly will try not to travel by air. Bus with an open window? Perhaps buy two seats so you ensure space around you.
Seeing Omicron is airborne, (aerosol) and very transmissible, I suggest another prevention strategy, putting down the toilet lid before flushing the toilet. The turbulence of the water and air will blow a virus up towards the face. If the toilet seat and lid don’t close tightly it will still only come out at knee level. An idea I’ve seen dismissed in the past but I think if we could limit this new stinker even just a bit, it would be worthwhile to do so.
In that splendid ascendance of intelligence that is America, despite the waste on details, surely there are people beyond the Dems and Reps who can see (certainly), and act(!), against the anti-democrats and climate change . This country produced FDR. But nothing indicates it likely, but then again who woulda thought Jacinda woulda forced vaccination. Post free-market revolution of 1980 the leadership there believe they are there by ‘their own merits’ and have zilch understanding of the society/medium that produced them. All those ‘scribblers, scribblers’ who write ‘history by strong individuals’ to make up for … time for any strong demo-crat. A George Bush of the Left. No brain needed, just a good heart and force. Despite it being classically reactionary I’m a convert to history by heroes. That and circumstances allowing ideals.
Well said Jim. The tragedy is no one can understand the Left anymore in the age of atomisation, individualism, entertainmentism. Our language requires a leap (yes, I know I can get obscure all on my own).
If someone can put me onto a discussion site about the govt’s move to abolish the children commissioner. Cos it’s deeply sus. If it’s conspiracy rather than cock-up it’s a capital condemnation of them.
https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/ldr/460002/dental-deliverance-volunteers-descend-on-small-town-to-address-needs-of-failing-system
PUNZ being seen at work! Dentists picking up on the needs and going for it having seen that our useless government has abrogated its long accepted duties. Now we need citizen activity to create Parallel Universe New Zealand.
Note that there is a private free hospital system in Christchurch that operates for the really needy.
These are from the truly caring professions that deliver along informed and systematic ways.
Our social services in general can’t compare, they go the Oranga Tamariki way, the Lake Alice way, the vicious jail conditions way. It seems that our supposedly caring governments and outspoken leaders in the social services are all mouth and no trousers. If you don’t understand that, then that is a example of what is happening all the time with our social services, confused talk that evades the hard questions.
Dr Siouxsie Wiles is one of the group of informed professionals speaking on Covid and particularly now Omicron type and she is good value.
https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/national/459975/siouxsie-wiles-really-worried-about-government-s-omicron-plan
“I’m really worried that the measures we have in place for red are just not good enough at stopping transmission.”
Wiles said in the case of an outbreak, authorities should immediately shut down certain venues and activities.
“Certain kinds of activities are just really high risk: indoor dining, night clubs. Regardless of whether you can stay one metre away from other people… those are still high risk situations.
“If we can stop people spreading the virus, then we can stop Omicron. And the more we do to stop transmission, the quicker it will be over.”
Ardern yesterday said Omicron’s infectiousness would make it “nigh on impossible” to eliminate, but that the red traffic light setting would help slow it down.
Under red conditions, public facilities and retail can operate with capacity limits. If using the vaccine pass system, restaurants and cafes can serve up to 100 people. If not, they can serve takeaways only. Gatherings are capped at 100, for vaccinated, or 25, for unvaccinated.
Then you have to consider the arrogant and destructive people like the DC (guess who) leader in Christchurch who is unvaccinated and deliberately sits with people at outside tables at cafes. It almost entices me to the idea of defensible violence. It is a deliberate behaviour that could spread disease, anti-social at the least, attempted manslaughter at the worst. It could definitely cause ‘grievous bodily harm’.
Hey re the above about the bloke who sits down with others outside cafes – I think he is unvaccinated but may be he is. It could be done in a spirit of causing malicious confusion and concern for the patrons and owners of the business. There is a malicious virus floating around in the air don’t you think?
These lyrics are what we might sing to our planet and our ‘progressive’ societies in a sorrowful and hopeful way. Life deteriorates because of the ravages we wreak on it from hyper capitalism and mad consumerism and conformism and …….. whatever ‘ism’ that comes to your mind as being part of the global mess.
Called Adia with a strong line ‘We were born inn-o-cent’… Let’s go forward in wisdom – considerate with honest practical resolve.
https://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/sarahmclachlan/adia.html
Adia, I’m empty since you left me
Trying to find a way to carry on
I search myself and everyone
To see where we went wrong…
I pull you from your tower
I take away your pain
I show you all the beauty you possess
If you’d only let yourself believe
Cause we are born innocent
Believe me, Adia
We are still innocent
It’s easy, we all falter
Does it matter?…

I se that we Nelsonians have been sharing around Omicron and seemed to have gone to a meeting in Auckland that may be a super spreader, and have given it to a steward on an AirNZ flight (Jetstar was being a bit careless weren’t they, do we know about them?) and the passengers might have got it from about 4 flights.

It reminds me of the great Tom Lehrer. I think it is time for some black humour ‘I got it from Agnes’

These standard authors have given themselves credentials to about special skills, knowledge and expertise “concerning” corona.
I have to deal with overweight security who never even completed high school just because corona got out of control. If it wasn’t for corona these people would be feeding there faces.
https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/country/459978/watties-struggling-to-find-enough-workers-for-upcoming-harvest
People need to be able to get jobs that don’t result in them getting poorer, ie with clawbacks, higher secondary tax, and stand-downs and all sorts of putdowns that smother initiative.
So what about turning seasonal work into a working holiday for people. Government give them transport to the site, and they have to do some job for at least two weeks. Provide tents if there are not facilities, portaloos. Ordinary tax on earnings, allow them to keep all the net earnings, and let them continue on with any grants they have. Bring back free grants instead of loans, get behind the low income workforce. Some sites could have play centres set up with capable carers looking after children.
