Jacinda is a victim of her own Covid success – will an ungrateful NZ at least whistle ‘We don’t know how lucky we are’ ironically?

60 people in hospital, three in intensive care in Delta outbreak

There are 60 people in hospital with Covid-19, and 63 new community cases in the Delta outbreak.

The new cases are in Auckland (53), Northland (two), Waikato (three), Bay of Plenty (one), Taranaki (one), and Canterbury (two).

It is the lowest number of new daily cases since October 20.

Hospitalization rates are low and mortality rates incredibly low, yet Maori academics are still claiming racism and the Death Cult Capitalists of the Right are screaming the economy hasn’t been opened up fast enough!

The reality is that this transition from Delta has been stressful on everyone of us but the hatred spat at Jacinda and Labour for protecting us so successfully is heartbreaking!

The Woke are screaming that Labour’s policy this is a ‘modern genocide’ against Maori.

Public health academics drunk in their own sense of power are angry Jacinda is taking into account other issues than just their prophecies.

The Bishop Brian Tamaki mob scream Jacinda is the antiChrist.

The Crystal Karen’s scream Jacinda is raping Gaia.

The Qanon lunatics scream Jacinda is Adolf Hitler.

The Death Cult Capitalists scream Jacinda isn’t willing enough to kill her own citizens for the economy.

Grumpy farmers scream Jacinda won’t let them steal and pollute water with cow shit and piss like they used to.

Small Business scream they are on the verge of collapse.

The double vaxxed scream why are they still under house arrest for all these antiVaxx nutters.

We are hitting 90% double vaxxed, our sickness and death rates are minuscule compared to the rest of the planet and Labour’s navigation of this plague will see us celebrate Christmas with Whānau.

Lockdown hasn’t been easy but Labour’s leadership through this crisis despite the tsunami of criticism deserves your vote in 2023.

It really is as simple as that you ungrateful sods!

  1. If the ‘son of Megatron’ covid strain is as much as fizzer as it teases then by mid 2022 covid is gone and its back to real world issues such as housing, law and order and pover(d)y. Labour bet big that covid was hear to stay and were myopic in their focus. After winning the Battle of Britain Churchill was dumped from office for also being a 1-trick pony. The PM will likely suffer the same fate.

    • Lets not forget that National would more than likely never have gone, or very reluctantly, and too slowly, gone to a level 4 setting in the first instance.
Then, once all the dirty hard work was done by Labour, they wanted to “open up” at 70% double vaccinated.
This would have equated to approximately 10,000 deaths and many more very sick people.
A month or so later, Collins and National announced that we should “open Up” at 80% . A few weeks further on their figure was changed to 80- 85%. Then 85 -90.
However, they pronounced, with all their wisdom , that New Zealand had “no show” of being 90% double vaccinated by the end of the year.
For fuck’s sake. With that kind of idiocy, can you imagine what a parallel response by National, had they been in charge, would have looked like?
Well the answer is 12,000 miles away.

      • Those numbers have been demonstrated to be a crock of shit. Remember Gav’s scare porn of 7,000 deaths @ 90% vaccination. What are we at post Delta 5 months in – less than 20 deaths.

Yes it kills and more so if you are unvaccinated but not at the levels modelers indicated. Not even close.

        • Wrong…do the math….properly….
The U.K is approx.12 times the population of N.Z.
          Divide 142,898 deaths by 12….
          There’s your answer..11,908 deaths
          The calculations were very accurate..
Stay off facebook, Rumble and Telegram..
          They are full of nutters..

  2. Hail Mary’s in place of actual planning does not make us grateful. The woefully under prepared health system has seen its meagre resources directed at Covid rather than a hundred other lethal diseases with very sick people getting booted out of hospital at the prospect of Covid capacity requirements, and all its political ramifications. That does not make us grateful.

By August 2021 NZ ICU capacity being vaguely better than Mexico did not make anyone grateful especially when it meant everything else was parked just in case covid got out of hand.

Red lining medical staff until they leave does not make me grateful.

Having a “plan” post 2020 so bad of our infamous leaky MIQ’s keeping Delta out plus level 4 frozen lockdowns does not make me grateful.

We got very lucky and yet we didn’t in so many other areas because of the laissez-faire nature of this government’s attitude to thinking forward. In fact where we land today had far more to do with fate and the primeval fear of political polls more than anything else!

  3. I believe Jacinda’s decisions in dealing with Covid have been good if not slow, but I’m certainly not breaking open the bubbly just yet. The figures are great so far But Auckland get’s off it’s leash this week and the Xmas touching and spit- share fest, then get’s into top gear. We just won’t know how this play’s out until we get there, and that could be February 22. If things aren’t so great then the winter of discontent won’t be good for us or the Government. If Covid is still under control the Government will then be dealing with a divided country of vaxed and unvaxed, and the endless list of social inequities along with housing, health, and infrastructure. If Jacinda can win the next election in spite of these issues will we be happy or will we have given up on any meaningful change that might improve this country and those who live in it.

  4. “will we be happy or will we have given up….” There are far bigger problems facing the World than covid, so I’m picking we will not be happy under either National or Labour. However I am sure voting Right wing is the worse option for CC, Social inequity, the new economy and (believe it or not) law and order.

    • G. If most of the social issues have got worse under a labour coalition, National must have been doing as well if not better. Just going by your own logic.

      • That is your own faulty logic, new view, not g’s. I would agree with garibaldi that while Labour has done badly, National’s policies are overall far worse for the issues involved.

        • All I’m saying is that it doesn’t matter how much you hate National or it’s policies you can’t turn around and say Labour have given results for the poor and disadvantaged that are any better than when National was running the show. So logically speaking, there’s no reason not to vote for National on that basis. You just hate them but that’s a different reason.

          • new view. Please stop saying dirty words like ‘hate.’ ‘Cunt,’ if you’re Green, ‘ fuck’ if you’re a pre-schooler or charity fund raiser, but don’t attribute ‘hate’ to others and think you’re being logical. Not so.

Thing is the current unacceptable trajectory of homelessness, poverty and hunger started pre-coalition, and you don’t know how much worse it all could be had National not done a runner.

You could try saying ‘ colonialism’, the other dirty little buzz word tossed around by the brain cell challenged, but that’s just part of the divide and rule dialectic. Your choice. Gratie.

            • Applewood. For your benefit I’ll swap hate for dislike. I use that word because that’s my impression of the comments many from the left on this forum give when referring to National. But I take your point. I’ve never used the word cu-t but you obviously have. Yes the current downward trajectory was started before this government and before that one and the one before and so on. And you don’t know how much worse the situation would have got under the last government either, do you. And don’t forget that for seven of that nine years that previous government was in power the majority of people in this country were happy to have them govern us. And what’s more they would still have been in power if not for Winston because as a political party they had the largest chunk of the vote at that election. And for the record you know nothing about me. And don’t bother with the colonial BS around me because I don’t buy into it. I think we’re starting to know each other a little more now.

              • New view. You presume too much. “ Cunt” is not in my working vocabulary, tho’ I daresay I may have used it had I lived in the time of Chaucer rather than the time of Marama.

But “ hate “ is a dirty word, and my mokopuna have been told that it is a bad word. Further, accusing dissenters of being haters is slipshod, and adds nothing constructive to any issue.

                • Unfortunately I use “cunt”, “Prick” and various other variations all too frequently.
Probably why I’ve never visited The Standard since some uppity Prick moderatpor tried to be offended on behalf of a politician who also used the terms liberally. He was probably the only gay in that village.
Christ I sometimes wonder how lil ‘ole NuZull would cope if ever we were faced with a hot war. Not sure we;ve even woken up to the fact we already in a warm war (in this space, going forward, rhubarb rhubarb)

  5. Our vaccination rates may well even top 100% when you can rock up and get vaxed 10 times in a day.
    World leading.

    • But that man must now be kept under observation, because he should show any harmful side-effects 10 times worse. He could even die ten times! The anti-vaxxers would at last have some real evidence!

    • Apparently he didn’t get away with it unchallenged so i’m not sure what your point is? If they needed to verify everyones identity completely it would involve gathering a lot more information and then verifying that info. How long do you think that would have taken. if that sort of identification was required how many more people wouldn’t have the documents required.. I suspect the vax rate would be in the low 50’s% with mostly Maori an pacifica unable to meet the requirements. is that what you want? They have no choice other than to rely on a high trust model. But hey.. make your snide remark.. we expect nothing less.

      • I’ll just let your monumental false equivalence speak for itself if anyone needs evidence of the faulty synapses in the current government and their woke hit/fan squad.

  6. No, Jacinda & Labour will never get any credit or thanks from NZers for saving them & the Economy from Covid because kiwis are the most negative, ungrateful, whinging, whining bunch of people in the World. We constantly nickpick & micro criticise everything Jacinda does for no good reason but to bully & intimidate her for being successful! The pressure on her over the last 2 yrs has been ridiculous, no other NZ Leader has experienced this level of vitriol & contempt than Jacinda has had to deal with! Kiwis demand a impossible standard in dealing with Covid that no other Country in the World has been able to attain, no one has handled the Pandemic perfectly but the NZ whingers on this platform expect nothing less than perfection, i.e why didn’t they do this or why didn’t they do that, its goddamn pathetic! Labour under Jacinda is admired Worldwide for her compassionate, health focused response to dealing with Covid to protect her people, its acknowledged as World class & one of the best in the World, but you wouldn’t know it from the whining & complaining that’s coming from ungrateful NZers, both overseas ex-pats & those at Home! Its petty, vindictive, nasty & disgusting behaviour, kiwi’s would rather see their fellow citizens catch Covid & die rather than see Labour & Jacinda win & beat Covid? One only has to compare NZ with other Nations to gauge how successful Jacinda has been dealing with Covid, the numbers don’t lie! So to all you whiners & complainers, if you want to see a Covid ravaged Nation with thousands of deaths & a destroyed Economy, go & vote for the bald headed, imbecilic, untried, vaccous Businessman Luxon & his merry band of deathcult Neoliberals, then you’ll get the Country you deserve, but like children squabbling over a toy, these people would bloody whinge & whine about that bald idiot Luxon & the idiotic Nasty Natz as well!

    • Antforce: In many ways you said it for me. I’m also sick of hearing about all these people throwing their toys out of the cot.

There’s a psychological term for this behaviour. It’s called transference. People who are pissed off about the issues that have been badly managed or not addressed at all focusing their frustration and anger on one person and on one issue instead of directing it to all the people responsible and to the real issues. Or just people who are pissed off about their lives in general expressing it in the wrong place at the wrong way.

There are glaring examples of serious problems in this country that are not being addressed. That’s what some of us are deeply concerned about. But let’s at least try to be mature about it. Call out the mistakes that are being made when and where they’re being made. By the same token give credit where it’s due.

Fortunately and Unfortunately this is a Neoliberal government with a warm hearted person at the top. It is business as usual with good management of the pandemic.

      • They are our version of trumps ‘deplorables’ they exist for good reasons though their aims are dispicable, 35 years of neo-liberal lies evasions and downright ignoring of their plight from both sides of the house…so yes they are beetle browed fascist bootboys butttttt they had nowhere else to go…and our pollies indifference did that.

    • Superbly said @Antforce – straight to the point but don’t forget the older self-entitled individuals who have criticised Jacinda since she was elected and especially so since this latest lock-down yet they were the ones who yelled and screamed last year that we entered lock-down too late and now they are moaning on about being locked-down too long.

As for the flutey-mouthed woman at the viaduct who spoke to Luxon when he did his walk through the Viaduct last week (TV 1 News) and the sneering well groomed woman in Hamilton who slated Jacinda (TV 1 News) I say this – could you have done any better? Have you really sat down and realised how well she has managed the COVID outbreak and kept you safe? Probably not because sincere gratitude towards Jacinda is not part of your make-up.

And to Luxon – why didn’t you walk through a shopping complex in one of the less privileged areas and meet the people there and see how much they are struggling?

    • Thank you Antforce. So well said.
I have contacts in The Netherlands, Germany and Belgium. Many of them have just gone back to square one: stay at home, don’t do this, don’t do that.
Germany may have general mandatory vaccination in a couple of months, Holland is considering it.
When our government gave us the first lockdown in 2020 some friends over there made fun of Jacinda as THEY were having ‘an intelligent lockdown’. This, I understood, meant that the people could be trusted to look after themselves. Well well….
      So many deaths later…..
By the time we were leading an almost normal life downunder, they were still struggling with their ‘intelligent lockdown’.
The European experience would have been the Natz equivalent is my guess, although probably worse here with our isolated geographical setting.
Again with Delta in Europe: quick quick! give us Freedom!
Chucking out all measures at the first possible moment with NOTHING in place to fall back on. Well, as I said: back to square one.
The hospitals are bursting at the seams, general healthcare is suffering, people are angry and tired.
I believe Jacinda is sincere in her wish and ambitious in her work to do well for us New Zealanders. It is completely beyond me how it is possible that anyone would be so incredibly negative and bordering on violent towards our PM as (some, many?) Kiwis are.
And you’re right, Antforce, a Covid ravaged nation would have been where we’d ended up without this approach by our government.
I’m so proud of tenacious Jacinda Ardern.
And you know….. my European friends totally get that! Now.

  8. Happiness, understanding. Will the wider population ever have them? Do the two go together – oil and water perhaps? Pursuit of happiness can turn to complacency which can result in determined ignorance. Attempting to grapple with that lack of understanding can lead to unhappiness and hurt.

I feel hurt as I look at the reality of what people are doing and thinking in the world, and how I fail to be as responsible as I could and should be, according to my own beliefs without others’ fevered urgings!
MB’s post about hurt feelings and freedom of speech (also Amnesty International) is important.
    https://thedailyblog.co.nz/2021/12/12/sooooo-more-mental-illness-than-white-supremacy-crackers-how-will-nz-msm-cope-without-woke-narrative/

Then past Covid, towards climate change and thinking of vastly rich thinking of turning science fiction into fact, and mining the moon etc. Who is in charge of the Earth? Does the answer lie in the soil? Are we living in an alternative version of The Day of the Triffids where people’s vision is all right but they can’t process in their minds what they see?

Did Aldous Huxley say that people would become slaves and embrace their slavehood? Active minds are still out there. https://www.metabunk.org/threads/a-false-quote-attributed-to-aldous-huxley.6761/

  9. Jacinda is a useless control freak mad on power. Splitting the country on race for power well housing, inequality, child poverty all get worse.
The sooner she resigns in disgrace the better.

    • Thankfully she has split the Qanon theorists, anti mandate, anti vaccine(the vaccine is worse than the disease types) away from us sane Kiwi’s. You should be grateful. See Antforce above comment…

  10. Before I decide if Jacinda ‘deserves’ my vote in 2023, let me quote a certain Martyn Bradbury:
…I think this Government are doing a shit job of lifting 200000 kids out of poverty.
…and are doing an even worse job housing the 24000 on emergency housing wait lists
…and are entrenching home ownership for the rich!
…I think they are cowards on climate change
…and have not lived up to transformative promises.
Doesn’t sound very ‘deserving’ to me.

    • essentially all they have is Covid. And while they did not totally fuck that up, they are trying their best to do so.
Oh my the new year will be so much fun, popcorn for everyone.

      • What about giving up criticising Labour for a New Year’s resolution Sabine. You haven’t got them to resign yet so try to put your efforts into repeating what they should be doing and how. Someone must pay attention sooner as last minute promises won’t win them next election. Criticism seems to roll off their oily backs. If it quacks and waddles we know it’s a duck. What way can we improve this duck? Is there a new style of stuffing we can use while there is still thyme? Haha.

        • why would i do that?
          housing people in motels
          hungry kids
          poor parents
an economy that looks good on the surface but don’t scratch.
Covid – so far so good, lets talk about it in a few weeks when the Aucklanders have had their ‘deserved’ holiday from their homes and their town.
This is their record, they have earned criticism fair and square. But feel free to continue to sing kumbaya while pretending that we are on the right track. Vote Labour – still moving, to somewhere, surely, just don’t ask for directions.

          • Housing people in motels is really really bad, they should be back on the streets and living in cars where National had them when there was no housing crisis. Back when we had a “Rockstar economy, but don’t scratch the surface.

  11. I’m enjoying being part of the new untermenchen class. It’s saving me heaps of money and I don’t need to socialise with fascist arseholes flashing their gesundheit passes at bouncers.

    • and the rest of us don’t need to be forced to socialise with plague carrying ignorant selfish fascist asshats with their pestilent breath.

      ..so win-win.

      • Hilarious. Your comment will not age well.
In 12 months, everyone will be unvaccinated again, thanks to the 6 month longevity of the “vaccine”.
Three jabs and you’ll be “unvaccinated” in 12 months according to the government.

By the way, referring to me as “plague carrying” is most amusing. It reminds me of 1930s Germany level of rhetoric.

        Happy Christmas!

  12. So whilst Jacinda and Labour Keepcalmandcarryon, who will Nationals new leader after Xmas be when Luxon resigns, I hear Jamie Lee Ross is unresigning like Todd Muller. I also hear Mark Richardson’s looking for a Christian hard right political party so should fit right in.

  13. Unconditionally locking a million New Zealanders out of the country for two years is gonna hurt your numbers. I for one will never vote Labour again. They are dead to me. Especially her. She can jump off a bridge.

  14. Instead of comparing us to countries under the yoke of Western corporatism why don’t you compare NZ with India, 34.5 deaths / 100,000 or that powerhouse of medical science Bangladesh 17 deaths/100,000. And they did it without destroying their economies. These countries are not islands with a minuscule population but overpopulated semi developed countries and they have achieved incredible results against Covid 19. I wont tell you how because that is forbidden in this shining light of free speech and democracy , NZ.
