Late Stage Capitalism Lockdown: Postcards & silver linings

Nothing sums up late stage capitalism better than watching all our TV current affairs hosts not hosting their shows because their MC corporate side hustles all became places of interest with Delta.

The only thing worse than a unique virus pandemic is all the moral posturing on social media from those boasting which tribe they are in.

The vaccinated vs the insane.

Somehow the vaccinated are still more annoying in their pap virtue signalling superiority.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m getting vaccinated but I privately hope they all catch it.

Lorde’s first single made me sad. My cynical black splinter of a heart denounces most, but even I’m a fan. I didn’t get the song until I saw her perform it live on The Late Show. The song explodes when she performs it.

That’s the silver lining of Late Stage Capitalism lockdown, Lorde is better live.

Day 6 of lockdown and I’m asking ‘is Breakfast cider a thing’?

  1. Yep cider for breakfast is a gastronomic delight Bomber. Found this out when visiting Normandy and Brittany. Everyone makes cider there . It is drunk in preference to water and is refreshing ,cleansing and only mildly soporific.Sets you up for the day. Delicious!.

  2. The obsession with vaccinations (and not just here, it’s a global phenomena), definitely should raise an eyebrow. We know the vaccines at best reduce symptoms and thus presumably reduce transmission to about the same as the original “Allpha” CoVID virus back in 2019/2020. Better than nothing, I ‘spose.
However, you hear nothing about utilising other effective treatments (which is all the vaccine is, given it doesn’t sterilise you from the virus), e.g. Ivermectim – an incredibly safe drug with little to no side-effects.

It boggles the mind that there is a massive push for vaccines (and masks) that we already know aren’t going to get rid of CoVID whatsoever but are being pushed on people that have little to no risk of illness (e.g. children). This is why conspiracy theories happen: because “the science” (i.e. that promoted by the government, as opposed to actual researchers) just isn’t stacking up with the facts on the ground.

        • Can you give us all your medical background that allows you this pearl of wisdom about vaccine. I dare say you would endorse Nitrium use of an animal medical prescription to kill parasites which is what Ivermectim is I know it was endorsed by Mr Crooked Trump and we know where that led the USA

          • Utter illogical comments.
Trumps breathes air and drinks water. Should we stop because he does? Just because Trump does something, does NOT mean we should do the opposite by any logical reasoning, by other than morons.
Also I thought he recommended Hydroxychloroquine.
Just because Ivermectin is used on animals to get rid of parasites, does not therefore logically mean it can not be useful to humans. It may seem strange, I agree, but in of itself, it does NOT preclude it from necessarily working. ALL the tests show it does, with less harm than a paracetamol and costs diddle-squat as it is not under patent.

      • Thanks! I’m not really respected much here, since I call out BS when I see it and that often doesn’t align with “the narrative”. There is a serious lack of critical thinking in media these days, the one thing that schools/universities should always be encouraging. When someone says “jump”, don’t respond with “how high?” (let alone just jump), always respond with “why?”, then go from there and see if they can give you a good reason.

  3. Exercising more but drinking more – defeats the purpose. While my first proper vacation since the pandemic began was cancelled this week seeing the effect of this lockdown on the smug has been worth it. Judging by what is happening in vaccinated Europe one has to think we might have won the battle but lost the war.

Still we have a plan out of this pandemic right?……right?

    • Frank, you’re losing me.

We’ve done phenomenally well and the vaccination rate will be up with the best in a few short months so is this a sprint and if so what to?

Because meanwhile Europe is coming out of summer which is the least risky time for this virus and as things start heading into Autumn over there, just about every country is experiencing uneven growth in rates of infection and deaths, although at this very moment the deaths remain low, they always do lag infections statistically.

The jury is well and truly out as to how successful this is going to be reliant on the vaccine only, but I suggest a combination of that, border restrictions and lockdowns of a lesser nature will be the new norm. Unless you want to blow out our health system.

Europe is a good case study but not a sure fire plan to follow.

      • Here’s the rub. We know to manage covid that you need a combination of:

1). A good vaccine rate with provision of supply/boosters
2). A first world health system that has sufficient capacity to have up to say 0.03% of your population in some form of care/monitoring should need arise OR

3). Be a hermit nation locked off from the rest of the world and all the issues that come with this strategy

Normally when you have 20 months to plan for an eventuality a forward looking nation would look to strengthen 1). & 2). and put in place a strategy where daily life is as normal as can be within accepted public health guidelines. We have spent those 20 months in a cocooned covid housing inflation stupor where nothing proactive has been done hence we have no choice other than a reactive option 3).

We should have been taking advantage of our covid-free situation and planning for a smooth transition to virus management. Unfortunately we are looking at a multi-week lockdown that only MIGHT work until the next case slips through the border. Jacinda Kanute still thinks she can beat the tide.

Smug Aotearoa used to look at Sweden as some form of pariah nation. If the shoe remains on the other foot for a prolonged time it’s ourselves that are ultimately the fool.

  4. Reminds me of the Noel Coward quote:
‘Noel you have champagne for breakfast!”
    ”Doesn’t everyone?”

  5. As for Judith Collins, that woman is as delightful as a werewolf on a full moon.

She is hoping and a praying and probably mortgaging her already betrothed soul to the devil that covid gets out of control. Just think of what wanton death and destruction can do for her grip on the leadership.

She really just needs to go have a lie down and shut the fuck up!

  6. Funny thing, watching CNN firstly about the evac in Afghanistan, then the floods in parts of the USA. If you watch carefully, of the hundreds and hundreds of people, small children, men, women, NONE are wearing masks barring a few. Same goes with the American troops. Only a few troopers and civilians had them on.

In a country that has virtually no hospitals and facility’s, no vaccines, because its been in a state of warfare for 20 years and much of its infrastructure turned to rubble, – here are all these folks wandering around and at the airports jostling for position,… yet bugger all concerns about covid. Same goes for the snapshot of hundreds inside a large aircraft to be airlifted,… there they were, several hundred it seems, all crowded together and looking towards the camera, and none of them wearing masks!

Same goes for the floods in Tennessee,…the Sheriff giving an interview with no mask on, and in the background dozens of folk all working together,- no masks. And yet we are told that delta covid is ripping through American community’s… an anomaly? a discrepancy?

We all know disease and famine usually follow war,…but have a look next time you see it. I would like to know a little more about covid in Afghanistan…they certainly had no qualms like we do in being out and about, and those were on the streets, not at the airport…

  7. The Maori on Waiheke had a premonition which helped them to decide to place a rahui around the island Waiheke. They didn’t want Lorde and her entourage to stink up the fish!
