Wear a Mask! Stop the Raids! Let them Stay!
Come to the Migrants Festival #MaskOrRaid

Join us to celebrate the deliverance of long overdue apology for the dawn raids.

Back in the 1970s many migrants from the Pacific Islands were deported from New Zealand, after being used as cheap labour for a long time.
The deportations were harsh and inhumane – family homes were raided early ours of the morning and people were dragged out of bed without any opportunity of defence. Families were torn apart, parents deported while their New Zealand born children remained here.
50 years later, the New Zealand government will be delivering the apology on Sunday 1 August at Auckland Town hall.
While we welcome the apology as a good start and a step in the right direction, there needs to be meaningful action to back the apology.
We believe the dawn raids have not stopped – more than 200 people were raided and deported in the last year alone.
The government also continues to ignore issues adversely affecting migrants and their families:
– lapsing of 50,000 visa applications and suspension of offshore visa applications until February 2022, leaving families separated and in limbo
– Terminating pathways to residency for most migrants already in New Zealand
– no assurance to bring back migrants stranded offshore

The Polynesian Panthers organised successfully in the 1970s to fight the unfair system and eventually put a stop to the dawn raids.
We need to stand united in solidarity with our Pasifika brothers and sisters to demand action backed apology for the dawn raids.
Polynesian Panther Will Ilolahia says, “There has been terror in our society that money can’t pay for, what is more beneficial for our people in society is pathways to residency for the present overstayers here.”

Join us on Sunday 1 Aug, at 1pm in Aotea Square to demand pathways to residency for all migrants already in New Zealand, including overstayers and migrants stranded offshore.

Wear a Mask in solidarity with overstayers at the rally.
Stop the Raids.
Let them stay.

  1. No thanks. Too many exploiters of migrants are migrants. Need to deport those people. Until migrants actually take a zero approach themselves towards exploitative migrants new to NZ (aka zero tolerance) then they are condoning the practise.

NZ employers were bad enough before, now they are getting worse with the incoming migrants employers and foreign owned NZ business being run into the ground while engaging in dubious tax situations (Cadbury). Don’t need it here!

Revealed: The New Zealand employers caught exploiting workers
    https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/new-zealand/2018/08/revealed-the-new-zealand-employers-caught-exploiting-workers.html

Sadly NZ is becoming a place where crazy and highly individualists from the anti-vax movement to people suing the government for their love interest, NZ visas to foreigners purchasing NZ businesses and running them into the ground (aka today’s story about the vineyard that the new owners from China ran into the ground instead of what they said on their application, Waiwera pools destroyed by the Russian billionaire, the constant redundancies from foreign owned NZ business, Cadbury/Silver Fern Farms). No doubt the exploiters will still get residency though even though they are keeping their word on their applications just like the drug smugglers like Sroubek!

No foreigner needs to go home from NZ, we have such a low standard of behaviour we accept as Kiwi residents now!

  2. We believe the dawn raids have not stopped – more than 200 people were raided and deported in the last year alone.

Is this who we are, Aotearoa?
    Seriously?

  3. – lapsing of 50,000 visa applications and suspension of offshore visa applications until February 2022, leaving families separated and in limbo
    – Terminating pathways to residency for most migrants already in New Zealand

    This is cruel and inhumane.
What have we become as a nation.

    • Kheala, there are pathways to residency, it seems that we encourage highly individualistic people to NZ who believe they can railroad and lie to get their applications through, then make a fortune exploiting their fellow country men coming into NZ. Has to stop.

Meanwhile honest migrants and people with skills that are needed like migrant doctors are left in limbo. If anybody dares suggest that we prioritise higher skilled, higher paid applications first then the woke have a melt down, they would prefer the exploiters petrol station manager to get in first and more and more of these bogus visa applications, or applications that drain NZ (love interests, aged parents) clogging up the system, than a migrant doctor helping save lives.

NZ needs to have standards because there are growing amounts of victims from Meth, murder, poor construction, running down and overloading our health, charity and welfare systems and our lazy immigration getting more and more high needs people who are in court/hospital constantly settling here, is not helping those in NZ who actually need the help first.

There are a plethora of migrant scams with large amounts of cash and socially undesirable products being imported here. The importers then don’t pay taxes and can buy up more assets with their illegally gained cash. When caught they often get away with it. Drugs, cigarettes, identity fraud, labour fraud, rape, etc are all areas where migrants once caught just seem to get away with it in NZ and once caught still get to stay in NZ!

It is a privilege to be invited to be a citizen or resident of another country, not a right to lie to get and stay here, abuse others, take up large amounts of resources compared to others and abuse the systems here which are mostly designed for honest people, which clearly doesn’t work when some of the most corrupt nationals nations are processing our visas and now seem to have taken over many ‘identity’ areas of NZ like drivers licensing!

      • “Kheala, there are pathways to residency, it seems that we encourage highly individualistic people to NZ who believe they can railroad and lie to get their applications through, then make a fortune exploiting their fellow country men coming into NZ. Has to stop.”
        Indeed.
So how about putting your efforts into railing against the system put in place by successive governments and showing a little more concern for its victims.
We have policies that are no better, and often worse than other jurisdictions that have encouraged all this shit to occur.
It’s quite interesting that today there’ll be an apology over the dawn raids – as there should be. And we’ll do that while we’re carrying out raids on others for the same sort of reasons the dawn raids on Pasifika happened.
You seem to gloss over the reasons that what you’d term the lesser skilled are here doing what they do – whether they’re the petrol station attendant, the Uber driver, or the labourer captured by some labour hire company or security firm that has a vertically integrated immigration advisor working for them and where false promises have been made.
All encouraged by a NZ government agency headed by a thoroughly captured and useless Minister who’s content with giggling his way through his political career. And a predecessor that was preoccupied with other carnal matters preventing him from doing anything useful.
4 years on. Change you can believe in? Kindness and compassion? “I want to be held to account”?

        • It’s quite interesting that today there’ll be an apology over the dawn raids – as there should be. And we’ll do that while we’re carrying out raids on others for the same sort of reasons

So, their apology is hypocritical. As in, “Back then we were big meanies. Now we are not.”
Is this what people mean when they talk about “Virtue signalling”?

          • The Apology ceremony on evening news, – thankful to have seen it.
Something has shifted for the better.

        • @OWT I am putting my efforts into railing against the system put in place by successive governments and showing more concern for its victims by trying to avoid more victims which is more than many of the woke seem to be doing,

Instead the woke seem to be encouraging more victims to come to NZ, more demand for exploitation here by adding in more migrants when the current ones are not exactly flourishing here, and you never hear anybody from the migrant brigade demanding the government deport the exploiters of migrants, or unlawful behaviour, if they are migrants themselves!

          • SaveNZ, I do understand your concerns. Many are valid. And, you are right, our whole Immigration System/ Dept needs a massive overhaul. At present it is not fit for purpose – the backlog of people waiting for info, from 2019, is one example of that. The Dept is not coping because it is from an earlier era, much from last century. It needs a radical overhaul.

But in the meantime, now in the time of Covid, there is this URGENT need to give amnesty to overstayers, particularly our Pacifica family.
No one should be living here in fear of arrest for simply living their lives.

            • @ Kheala, have you thought that policy through? You want to give Amnesty for people who are exploiting others in NZ, rapists, drug smugglers etc. What about their victims? Is that fair?

NZ needs to have higher standards than our neoliberal ‘bums on seats’ policy that has been destroying NZ for 30+ years.

It is worse for migrant doctors for example to be held in limbo for residency, while residency is given for mentally ill, illegally working, unemployed, recently released from jail migrants which seem to be advertised weekly.

Talking to a migrant employer who said he can’t get any staff, I said that only the unemployed come to NZ, the ones who have skills go to OZ to get the higher wages, that is why they can’t get any staff in NZ.

OZ are more productive and you must work as it’s difficult to get welfare in OZ if you are not an OZ citizen plus you can’t get health care or welfare for free over there like NZ if you are a migrant.

In NZ we encourage poor quality and illegal workers, you can just come and get benefits from day 1 and get Permanent residency or citizenship in days or very short periods before leaving NZ but still get to buy property and assets and obtain welfare as a Kiwi by coming back when you need it.

              • You’re a bit of a worry at times @SaveNZ. Sometimes I think you might not be out of place in Poland or Hungary – good examples of how it all starts. Or even a comfy little pozie in INZ or the LI.
Your legitimate concerns are not going to be solved by cruelty and othering.
But I doubt your mind will be changed by anything.
Big shame IMHO because you so often highlight legitimate concerns about things that have really really gone tits up.

  4. Faa Foi and Arderns Immigration Cabinet Advisors, H Glass and J Fry, P Wilson are into the religion of reinventing NZ by another Social Engineering experiment.

They want NZ to be the Silicon Valley of the South Pacific for High Rollers! The Billionaires Only Club!
Hacienda has rubberstamped the project and the Cabinet are on board with this too.

Remember Peter Theil got his citizenship in 12 days for a couple of million bucks and got it back 10 fold by setting up a start up spying software business in NZ and sold it for a killing!

Fry, Glass and Wilson are believers in the New World of high tech and a fluid immigration policy for the wealthy only.

    Look them up!

    • You’re right Den, and I think it’s inevitable, as all four main parties are on board with it (if not salivating at the thought). Jimmy Shaw included.

Which makes it all the more important that we keep our Aotearoa beating heart alive while the tech-head is undergoing implants. By which I mean, we need to set certain “non-negotiable standards” that have to be adhered to, by all future govts. And, one of those would be that we always look out for our Pacifica bros and sisters. (There are others…)

  5. NZ employers who are now generally majority owned by overseas interests seem to be making NZ a basket case and less and less productive.

In 2020 Silver Fern Farms made many of their employees redundant.

Yet by 2021 they blame everyone else for not having enough staff.
    https://www.nzherald.co.nz/northern-advocate/news/millions-lost-because-of-staff-shortages-after-covid-19-closed-the-border/B3XQEHCLTOLKQJWIQNFPSFITAY/

Silver Fern Farms did that to themselves, with zero long term business acumen, a morality free zone, and no NZ compulsory business paid redundancy idiot business managers just hire and fire willy nilly, and can afford to do so, as the government gives them a never ending supply of new workers to exploit so they see no need to focus on retention of workers rising through their industry.

Thus wages and conditions get poorer and poorer until nobody in their right mind sees that industry as a viable career.

Then Covid hits and they can’t get their cheap and naive workers anymore form overseas and have alienated decades of local workers from their freezing works. Love it, when the free markets actually work. Of Cours the so called free market idiots are the first on the phone to the government to bail them out with new workers. Too hard to do as OZ does and get people out recruiting for their workers by offering incentives!

Then NZ taxpayers aka our nurses and teachers have their taxes spent on helping Silver Ferns take $43 million in wage subsidies and it seems Silver Ferns Farms only paid it back because they posted a $12.4 million dividend and they would have run the risk of being prosecuted otherwise.

  6. This following Herald article says it all really. If it wasn’t for migrant workers our health system would collapse. But like many other sectors that hire migrant labour, residency is dangled in front of them, to keep them vulnerable and compliant. Then covid hits and the system fell apart
With borders closed keeping migrant workers in limbo no longer worked.
There needs to be a total amnesty for all migrant workers stuck here and overseas. So that they can have certainty of their continued employment in this country.
    Let’s stop this rort.
If they are good enough to work for us they are good enough to live with us.

Young regional GP with 1300 patients leaves New Zealand following residency limbo
    29 Jul, 2021 09:23 AM

A regional medical practice has been forced to close its doors to new patients due to the loss of a beloved GP, who left New Zealand after a year in limbo in the residency queue…

Ōtaki Medical Centre chief executive Kiwa Raureti said Richards had been a skilled GP and “conscientious” team player, with a total of 1354 patients registered to him…..
……He said Richards and his partner had left because without a clear path to residency, they could not see a future in New Zealand.

And does Megan or Nicola or Faafoi really think the doctor who has decided to leave, or the IT guy working for ANZ, or the construction worker who’ve all been lied to really care if they say they “empathise” when they’ve played much more than a minor role in it all.

      • If NZ government allowed less exploiter applications that don’t seem to benefit NZ but individuals aka exploiter, low wage employers, spouses, family members, and bought the visa processing back to NZ, then the applications of doctors would not be buried under the avalanche of other applications, many which have little to zero benefit for NZ and in many cases somehow applicants who break the laws are now NZ citizens against those applicants who do everything right.

    • There needs to be a total amnesty for all migrant workers stuck here and overseas. So that they can have certainty of their continued employment in this country.

      Absolutely!!

    • Part of the problem of health system collapse is that many people are able to become resident in NZ pushing health needs for foreign visitors, foreign students, temporary visas, permanent visas and new citizenships.

Just like the superannuation, NZ was told a lie that the new visas were to help NZ to pay for superannuation, but instead migrants could bring their aged parents into NZ or buy NZ residency easily by buying a food business, or marry to bring new pensioners into NZ. The system is so broken that it is predicted that in a few years there will be more Asian pensioners than Maori and Pacific Island pensioners combined living in NZ. You don’t need to pay any taxes to get a NZ pension, just be resident for 10 years. So migrate at 55 years you can qualify for your NZ pension and free benefits at 65 years and then can be getting free health and pension care for the rest of your life in NZ.

In this case a nursing support worker on a temporary work permit, Aileen Lambojo, can take bring in her spouse, 2 dependant children and have more children in NZ. So it is easy to see that many health residents can be more a drain on NZ health system by having 5+ new people who need NZ health care, even if they work in the health system. This is not a highly skilled role or well paid.

Note the biggest costs to the health system are people in the first and last 3 years of life, so getting pregnant in NZ or bringing in small children or being aged are the biggest users of NZ health care.

  7. Just to set the record straight about the ‘Migrants’ protest at the ‘Dawn Raid Apology’ at the Town Hall on Sunday.

For 7 to 8hrs we were all there in solidarity.

The PI elders on the way into the hall were supportive and knew exactly what and why the protest was on. It was respectful btw the groups with one or two idiots that funnily got shut down by their own people.

We had all entrances and exits covered and for once the Police stood back and observed. Some of the migrants met some of the officials and local government councillors and the Human Rights commissioner who all spent time to talk to people. They then took the message inside and that got through to the PM. Hence, within less than 12 hours she did a media announcement that decisions will be made ‘shortly’, which is long overdue.

Need to keep the action on the streets not in closed-door talkfests for ineffective opposition pollys that have no influence or power over policy who are trying to hijack the migrant community just for a PR stunt. Act & the Nat’s.

    • Many in NZ don’t consider people from the pacific Island community migrants because many have been in NZ for generations.

Any country that has the mass migration that NZ had undertaken for Rogernomics, with something like a 20% population change in only a decade or two faces significant problems and this is very different from the Dawn raid situation which seemed like police power gone bad.

The NZ version of multiculturalism is putting the white supremacists in Christchurch next to the Muslim Refugees. Gee wonder what could go wrong! Or take the Maori state housing and give it to refugees or migrants or tell the boomers in Auckland to get out, make way for their version of change which seems to be ghettos in the North Shore, CBD and anything in the Grammar Zone, construction everywhere poising the water and land, to pushing armed police into South Auckland where presumably they have rival gangs forming, judging by the media hype and armed police which is probably not even true.

People would rally a bit more for migrants if the migrants actually bothered to stay within NZ laws and migrants denounce the exploiters of labour and fraudsters and ask for them to be deported out of NZ….

What concerns me, is a small but aggressive group of migrants seem to be advocating for all migrants including all exploiters and migrant criminals to remain in NZ and keep bringing in more to be exploited or exploit. Fuck the victims rights!

Only problem is apparently Labeen just dropped 9 percentage points in the polls. So the 2.75 million to Harry Tam, ex mobster didn’t go down that well, while taxing the farmers and putting the middle class in jail for hate speech.

How about migrants start campaigning to see migrant exploiters punished appropriately and deported, rather than messaging what seems to be, any migrant who steps foot in NZ is expected to be supported for the rest of everyones lives, and their future spouses, families and relatives, (or until NZ welfare packs up).

The Dawn raids apology and appearance of the migrant lobby group, isn’t going to be well received by many Labeen voters in NZ, as banging someones door down and being arrested which sounds a lot like Dotcom, who although has proved in court that the police were acting illegally, has been imprisoned and facing persecution. No migrant protests, apology and crocodile tears for him!

        • Keep being a shrill for the exploiters, DennyPaoa!

Keep wanting Kiwis to live in cars, 30,000 on health care waiting lists, while Liquor barons build mansions and migrant criminals and migrant labour exploiters are all expected to be given NZ residency amnesty in the push for residency amnesty for all.

The amount of organised lobbying has to be paid from somewhere, and my guess is, the migrant exploiters making the millions from exploited labour, are running this ‘amnesty for all migrants’ campaign – just like the right wingers are gathering up the anti vaxers and anyone else they can get their hands on, the migrant exploiter groups are out in force wanting more cheap labour and trying to piggyback on their cause, aka protest at the Dawn Raids apology, wokies, etc.

The problem with the shrill of ‘migrant exploitation’ is, many of the exploiters are migrants but no mention of punishing that crime in any meaningful way by deportation, by the migrant lobby group and their shrills who are daily on every radio and news articles.

I wonder why harsher punishment and deportation for migrant labour exploiters is never mentioned, and whose paying for their intensive campaigns?

          • The government is responsible for exploiters! They don’t enforce the law!
Exploiters only exist because the State allows them too.

            • No, the government didn’t create the exploiters, the exploiters exploited laws that have loopholes. All the government did was make it epically easy to allow neoliberal wankers to get cheap labour from offshore to suppress wages and conditions in NZ just to keep the profits of the 1% rising. The government then tried to lock down some of the requirements (e.g. must have job to go to) for foreign workers gaining residency so the exploiters decided they could make a killing by offering fake jobs to migrants in return for a cut of their wage or a 20k payoff to keep their job. Not to mention the right of migrant residents to bring in their whole family and have kids etc, which btw if you lived in Europe or many other countries, you would not be allowed to do.
I have seen first hand exactly what SaveNZ is describing, in many different businesses here in NZ, and actually some of the business owners raising just these issues are themselves migrants!
So actually SaveNZ isn’t a ‘fucking racist bigot’, but is actually trying to shed some light on the different between government rhetoric, business practices, and the actual behaviour of migrants on the ground, which is not reported and certainly not understood by government.
I think Denny, like most commentators on this issue, you have a rosy picture of what’s going on with immigration and the level of scams and rorts, that is informed by media and general day to day discourse, not actual on the ground reality. When migrant business owners themselves make a point of raising the issues SaveNZ does, you know somethings fucked, and it’s not the lone voice of SaveNZ you seen to want to rudely trash.

              • “All the government did was make it epically easy to allow neoliberal wankers to get cheap labour from offshore to suppress wages and conditions in NZ ………”
They did more than that @ nukefacts. They actively encouraged it and continue to do so.

  8. Once upon a time in a country they called Carolina a band of English entrepreneurs found vast areas of land under-exploited and inadequately defended by the local folks. They decided to plant cotton there, and to build themselves impressive mansions where they could live a gay old life on the yields from their crop.
But there was a catch. The lazy and feckless English workers in the slums of London and Manchester did not want to go out and pick cotton for the innovative entrepreneurs of Carolina. (It might have had something to do with the wages and conditions on offer, which to be frank were not great.) So the entrepreneurs began murmuring about a labour shortage in Carolina, and the English press took up the story of the labour shortage in Carolina, and the British government confirmed the existence of a labour shortage in Carolina. Then, being entrepreneurial, and helped by having a business friendly government and a business friendly press, the plantation owners found the perfect solution to the labour shortage. Darkies! On the Rigidly Supervised Employment ((RSE) scheme! And so it was, and so they lived happily ever after, or rather until the darkies became as lazy and feckless and unmanageable as the English slum dwellers and the lazy and feckless slum dwellers decided that it was not a good thing to have darkies working for no money to keep the lights burning in the great mansions of the cotton planters. But that is another story.
E hoa, there was never a labour shortage in Carolina! There was just an excess of people who wanted to become very rich without having to pick their own cotton.

  9. When Jacinda first became PM in 2017, one of the first things that she did was to visit various Pacific Islands and reassure the people there that they are indeed part of our Pacific family, and that we will look out for them. For that reason if for no other, Pacificas who are here in AP//NZ must be given amnesty and a clear pathway to a more secure future.

    • +100
So now that we’ve dealt with the Pacific and eased our collective consciences, we’ve moved on to pull the very same stunts we pulled on Pasifica.
Funny thing is, we then go grovelling for FTAs with them, and wonder why they’re not seeing “our” reason.
I’ve had the popcorn out watching in amusement for a while now. I could have (for example) saved Winnie and his enterage of officials his last trip to the Ayshun continent.
It’ll be interesting to watch just whose credibility they think is on the line.
It’s a funny thing – generally people the world over don’t really like being lied to or being shat on – especially by those that claim the legitimacy of gummint.
