MEDIAWATCH: Has Newsroom been cancelled by the Wellington Woke yet?

BLASPHEMY! Newsroom has dared publish heretic writings against middle class woke mantra – have the Wellington Twitteratti been informed so that immediate cancelation can occur?

A word with the lynch mob

David Cohen addresses cancel culture, and its advocates who operate in “the open sewer running through the Dickensian lunatic asylum that is Twitter”.

I’m surprised there isn’t an action station petition demanding Newsroom be banned for not stating the rooms pronouns.

Social media algorithms have allowed for a toxicity of debate that is easily manipulated. A cacophony of sweaty truths all screaming for attention and no one listening. Woke Identity Politics activists have seized the joy of having no gatekeepers to express how much they hate white men while alt right Incel Nazi’s have seized upon the joy of having no gatekeepers to express how much they hate everyone else.

Millennial woke culture sees macro violence coming from micro aggressions and piously police those micro aggressions with virtue signalling purity mantras.

Alt Right Incel Nazis see white persecution and create some bullshit replacement narrative to justify their powerlessness and feed that resentment online.

Most people are on social media and most people have a woke activist or Qanon fanatic in their social media feed screaming their feverish truths. While these activists certainly think they are speaking truth to power by endlessly calling people out for breaches of woke mantra or fake news anti Trump lies, to everyone else they are simply toxic.

People stop seeing the political party and only see the activist and in the end proxification means the activist becomes the proxy representation of the Party, and seeing as people have negative feelings towards the proxy, they turn from the Party.

Voters aren’t voting on policy, they are voting on who made them feel resentful on social media!

Look at Boris Johnson’s incredible win manufactured by resentful former Labour voters still angered by the way the younger generations attacked them over Brexit…

UK local elections: Voters flock to Boris Johnson’s Conservatives as Labour sees dismal result

Voters in an opposition stronghold turned en masse to British Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s Conservatives, boosting his parliamentary majority on Friday despite a high COVID-19 death toll, last year’s record economic slump and cronyism charges.

…the political is the personal now means what hurts me personally becomes political.

Trump understood that and disturbingly managed to increase his vote share.

Before social media activists could only face each other off at protests or through letters to the editor or talkback radio. There were constraints of interaction but with social media there are none and it turns out the freedom to insult and dehumanise others is more addictive than nicotine, alcohol and meth combined.

Wokeness has become a puritanical religion with none of the beauty – it’s not so much the personal virtue signal, we are all dicks at times, it’s the weaponization by algorithms that make it so dangerous and damaging.

The danger of identity politics is that it locks people intellectually into only defining the world through their skin colour, genitalia or sexual orientation…

Being ‘stale, pale and male’ doesn’t mean you’re obsolete

Almost every day, I watch people roll their eyes and make snarky comments about older white men. They’re mocked and judged, not because of anything they have necessarily done or said, but simply because they fit a caricature.

Our polarised culture is obsessed with extremes. You’re either in or out; right or wrong. For generations, white men ruled the world – controlling commerce, politics, education and the media. Now, the dominant view is that they should shut up.

We don’t want “stale, pale males” on boards. We don’t want to see too many of them on TV. We don’t want to hear their opinions on Twitter. The message is clear: “Can’t you see that your time is up? We no longer care about your ideas. We’re not interested in what you have to say.”

As one white man in his 50s told me, “I feel like I’m not allowed to have an opinion anymore, and I no longer know where my place is”. Is this really what we want for a million Kiwis? Does our quest for diversity require us to rob older white men of their own identity?

…it also becomes toxically subjective and tribal where the only solidarity is with other people who share the skin colour or genitalia or sexual orientation- without shared truths and values, the 1% and their 9% enablers continue to divide the rest of us 90%.

The Big Tech Tzars have manipulated our collective fear, ego, anger and insecurities through social media in a way that has led to the largest psychological civil war ever launched.

Meanwhile, the planet burns and every aspect of our existence is monetarised for big data to sell us more stuff we can’t afford. We are alienated and anesthetized by a consumer culture that keeps us neurotic and disconnected. Our work, our existence, every move we make are all built to suck money to a minority class that sits above us while under neoliberalism, globalization, financialization, and automation, our existence as individuals has only become more disposable.

We are but meat bags secreting hormones addicted to dopamine rewards for fat, sugar, salt and sex in a cultural landscape of individualism uber allas where we sing sweet secret lies to ourselves to make sense of a world around us that is frightening and in constant entropy.

This current Western Democracy is late stage capitalism at its culturally most self defeating.

Increasingly having independent opinion in a mainstream media environment which mostly echo one another has become more important than ever, so if you value having an independent voice – please donate here.

If you can’t contribute but want to help, please always feel free to share our blogs on social media

  1. the worst part of the whole shit show is that ‘team woke’ is being supported and assisted by big business and none of the acolytes seem to be able to point out the irony or the hypocrisy of this. Indeed the corporate world has swung left (new left) in a big way worldwide.

    • +1 Frank the Tank

‘team woke’ is being supported and assisted by big business and none of the acolytes seem to be able to point out the irony or the hypocrisy of this.

+ Also team woke supported by the Media. Media bosses don’t want to pay for decent journo’s and investigations, – that costs Money!!! Instead ,get rid of the brigade of employed experienced journo’s and move to ‘youth’ and ‘diversity’ and paid for advertorials which is so much cheaper to pay than what was formally considered news and what was formally considered journalism and what was formally considered an investigation.

  2. or it could all just be evolutionary/generational change. My Mum reminded me yesterday that when she was in her late teens, early 20’s that the rhetoric of the previous generation to her was saying exactly the same sort of things. Letters to the editor (social media of the day) complained endlessly about Elvis’s hips being a danger to the young, people living together out of wedlock, children born out of wedlock, young girls ‘going on holiday to Australia’, Young people not going to church, lack of respect from the young to the state, women demanding the same rights as men and how they should just get back in the kitchen, homosexuality should not be talked about and remain a criminal offence, Uppity Maoris, Catholics, Jews and Asians and what their place in society should be (can you guess?), dirty hippies, music too loud and incomprehensible, Men with long hair, women in short skirts, no women in public bars, no women allowed to use HP without their father or husband countersigning, any sign of culture or higher thought to be derided, Men encouraged to show no emotion, women derided as too emotional….the list just went on and on. Fast forward 50 or 60 odd years and what do we have? All the previous complaints now laughable but we now have our own older generation complaining about the young and casting about for blame. Some things never change. To blame “Big Tech’ and suchlike is almost conspiratorial in my view. It’s just the way it has always been.

    • Good luck trying to get letters to the editor or blog comments printed today, if they are not of the agenda of the neoliberal woke.

      • and yet here you are making your opinion known. I don’t think it has ever been the case that letters to the editor weren’t screened and edited for offensive comments. FFS, your comment is in reply to a newsroom article that has garnered no response from ‘the woke’. This all smacks of ‘angry old men shake fist at sky’. The real enemy are the far right tossers feeding you this anti woke bullshit.

    • Good stuff 6ft4. Agree with all that, however I feel that the younger generations are waking up to the mess that older generations have made, won’t acknowledge, and left them to deal with. Pissed off in other words. And this is how they roll. Everything is done on their phones. (which are almost part of their anatomy).

      • My mate, who is a white 50+ told me he felt actual relief passing on the burden of custodian of the world to someone else. At least we didn’t unleash MAD and are still here to enjoy/reflect on our moment in the sun. Most my age are at the peak of their professional life, enjoying a warm dry home, with money in the bank (one way or another) and looking forward to a fairly comfortable retirement (or retired already). I imagine our grandparents felt the same about our time on the telephone when a letter would have sufficed. Twitter is a fad and will be surpassed by the next bright idea. I’m just glad the young never took up those god awful ‘google glasses’ (?) that you wore with real time video upload.

  3. It’s all distraction on the path which leads to extinction via CO2 emissions that overuse of technology is exacerbating.

  4. I love this rave! It’s brilliant on so many levels. Thanks for putting it out there Martyn. I saw Peter Singer on Q&A on Sunday and we need to hear the common sense point of view. For one thing it helps to stop us feeling like we’re drowning in crap. Also hopefully it makes others who feel they have no choice but to be drawn in by it to stand back and think more deeply. Sincere thanks.

  5. Why do people use Twitter? How does it add value to one’s life? If I wanted to entertain a bunch of tripe views I’d watch the 6 O’clock News.

I imagine Twitter is a bunch of bitter woke people nobody wants to employ because they’re a nightmare – and fanatically Tweeting. A basket-of-unemployables?

  6. Could be a good idea to educate ourselves as to what ‘woke’ and ‘anti woke’ actually are. As a 50 something white male, I’m constantly embarrassed by the ‘anti woke’ brigade who mostly seem to comprise of white 50+ males, all claiming ‘victim’ status and alluding to some sort of conspiratorial plot to ‘shut them down’. It’s like I’ve stumbled into some sort of ‘Fox News’ website. Could it be the ‘anti woke’ have been conned by right wing propaganda that is demanding this demographic ‘take back control’? If you are expecting me to nod my head to the ramblings of the Hosk, Peter Williams et al as examples of ‘anti woke’ then you will be disappointed. I’d rather be considered ‘woke’ than ‘asleep’. To quote Dylan..’your sons and your daughters aren’t yours to command’ and ‘you better start swimming or you’ll sink like a stone’. As true now as when we was young.

  7. You’re inventing things nobody ever said…. but that’s what the people who whine about “cancel culture” do.
