Broadcasting Standards Authority create roadblocks to free speech
Proof today that the woke snowflake virus has mutated to a more contagious form and is currently spreading unabated through government departments. Sean Plunkett, whose radio show is about as dangerous as that mouthy relative at Christmas, has been identified as the evil oriental fish market ground zero of the contagion. However, as there is no evidence that the actual coronavirus has mutated into a more transmissible and deadly form, similarly there is no evidence that Plunkett acted in anything other than being a dick like he usually does. His show is clickbait for those who still listen to radio combined with those who should know better. He’ll get around to mocking other minorities soon enough, but it’s not as if he is blocking public highays unlawfully. Or going onto hidden online message boards to discuss mass murder. And compared to the propaganda dictated to our mainstream media on behalf of government and corporate benefactors, the alarmist one-sided xenophobic reports, the peddling of pharmaceuticals or fizzy drink or booze or gambling or virtue, the crap served up as reality TV or the cop shows masquerading as entertainment, I would rather listen to a shock jock these days and just shrug my shoulders (or maybe decide what is offensive before turning the radio off) than let some faceless government bureaucrat censor a rant – or attempt to create a chilling effect. The BSA comes off as fluffy and as reactionary as a rudderless government devoid of talent or ideas, as competent as our security agencies and as manipulative as a totalitarian social media company. The Act and National Party operatives, the cops, the evening news, ‘cartoonists’, TalkBack radio, the constant derogatory messaging, all came before Plunkett; the BSA didn’t do a bloody thing. Maybe someone in the BSA tent just got anointed as deputised cop and is now intent on stopping all traffic on their watch to show just who the boss is.
