Green Party MP Ricardo Menéndez March blasted for ‘OK, Boomer’ reference

The Green Party’s new senior citizens spokesperson has outraged social media users for using the “derogatory” phrase “OK, Boomer”.

It’s hilarious that Boomers are the first to kick Millennials for being triggered snowflakes, and Boomers are righteous to do that because Millennials are triggered snowflakes, but the moment Boomer righteously becomes a term for derision, oh listen to those triggered snowflake Boomers scream in anguish!

As a Gen Xer, I can’t stand Boomers or Millennials.

There are 2 types of boomer. Those who just fall into the age demographic (no one has a problem with them) & then there is ‘the fucking boomer’ – white coiffed hair, dripping in gold, International holidays every season & 4 property rentals. These Boomers took their boomer cradle to grave privilege & fucked the rest of us with a user pays neoliberalism that has locked every younger generation out of home ownership.

If Boomers are angry at how their generational name has been turned into a joke, wait until they realise that by 2023 they will for the first time ever be a smaller voting demographic than Gen X & Millennial’s combined and that those Gen Xers and Millenials will be as unforgiving as a Boomer at an auction when it comes to death tax and inheritance duties to fund affordable housing.

All us Gen Xers and Millennials want is the same state subsidisation of our lives that the Boomers enjoyed before the Boomers pulled the ladder up behind them by voting in neoliberal Governments.

Luckily for the Boomers the Millennials are all too busy canceling each other and policing micro aggressions to be politically effective, but make no mistake, judgement day via death duties and inheritance tax for all that untaxed capital gain is coming.

  1. Ricardo obviously has no respect for those he is supposed to represent. In the last government we had Genter as a minister of Transport and while in power did nothing for motorists .

    • Motorists may be the majority in numbers, but they are also the biggest problem regarding gridlock in cities, and the squandering of our resources. Get real.

      • She did not to get people out of their cars either. Wellington bus a disaster here in Chch new routes increased fares and a drop of in patrons. Auckland no light rail . Cell phone use no increase in fine still $80 . She was usless .

    • Trevor – Ricardo certainly appears disrespectful, but he’s a young gay Mexican guy, and if he’s been socially immersed in Auckland’s LGBTQ Green community, it may be a big ask to expect him to to have cultural sensitivity towards the wider community. The b word is a dopey word, but it’s working for the Greens – another socially divisive clique, more’s the pity.

  2. Consider who may err in assuming that all boomers had their homes handed to them on a privileged platter.

Not so. Many worked hard, and sacrificed a lot, to acquire their own place, and while they were busy doing so, the ferrets snuck into the fowl house. Ricardo looks just like any other identity politics twerp with too selective a view of this country’s history. That’s what suits some of them, and there are worse than this laddie.

    • Snow White: “Ricardo looks just like any other identity politics twerp with too selective a view of this country’s history.”

Yup. He’s another young prat. I doubt he knows anything about the history of NZ, beyond the woke version he’ll have heard from other Greenies and the like.

He vividly illustrates why I earnestly hoped that the Greens wouldn’t return to parliament. And if they did, they’d be politically impotent. At least my latter wish was granted.

However. He’s now an MP in a representative democracy. His job is to represent us all. If he can’t open his mouth without inserting his foot into it, I give him Keith Holyoke’s famous advice: breathe through your nose for your first term.

  3. We’re a lucky people on a lucky country during very lucky times if this is all we have to concern ourselves with.
The entire narrative of the vernacular is a bit shit and pathetic. Isn’t it? “Boomer” ? Who gives a fuck? I recon it’s a bit boomist. Think of all the little booms out there crying because they feel under rated? Poor wee boomers. More Poppers really. A small boom is a pop? Is a snap like a fledgling crack?
If a woman literally went Boom! during birth I’d call A. The fire brigade and B The National Inquirer.
My mum used to reckon that the worst thing to be called was late for breakfast.
A ‘Baby Boomer’ are parents of children arguably born of kinder times who now hate on people for being…. ah… parents who are having kids in times of a level of peace previously unheard of much less foreseen.
    Basically, I don’t get it.
As for ‘snowflake’. What the fuck’s wrong with a snow flake? That, is clearly a case for flakist discrimination. Not all flakes are snow Mr. Skin flakes! ? See? There you go? Snow flakes can be very romantic little things. Falling dizzily from a dark winter sky as the fire light shines brightly in your lovers eyes as he/she/they/them/those over there smile alluringly back in wanton strumpetry. That, is what gives babies to women who then boom them out. See? Full circle. Life is strange and wondrous.

  4. It will be too late Martyn, the boomers will burn the planet to the ground before we can get the death taxes from their sorry asses.

    • The boomers who you deride started the Green Party long before it was hijacked, passionate about the environment, and the planet, as more than just a place to grow pot.

  5. Nonsensical and cheap crap, sorry to say that.
Just ringing the bell to generate Pavlov’s reflex in some small minds?
    Or what?

  6. You all have this dillusional vision of taxes funding affordable housing. Hilarious. The days of cheap housing are gone….unless…unless a government simply steamrolls over councils to release land and ditch expensive consents. Jacinda said she won’t overrule any council.
Even if…Uber woke building regulations make it impossible to build anything cheaply. Basically govt is fucking up the kiwi dream. It’s all just big talk.

    • delusional Herman delusional.
Consents are an issue because of the Building code. It is the problem. Councils merely apply the aw written by Central government.
The building code is known as the Carter Holt Harvey building Act in our house.
Blocking self building by owners is the first thing that needs to go completely.
The insistence on using pinus radiata for structural frames is the core issue. It is a shit product always has been.So a lot more timber is required becasue it is so weak.
We have better timber available on small forest plots that has been designated for decking only.
We are governed by idiots always have been.

  8. Jeez
    Talk about identity politics!
Who brought in nuclear free NZ?
The Norm kirk govt?, protested the Vietnam war and began the focus on environmental destruction and climate change?
I’m a boomer..and brought up 4 kids on my own in an unfinished house without electricity ,while working for peanut wages under the ever heating sun
The last child had left home before I could afford to get the power on
I’m still a bottom feeder when it comes to cars,I don’t think I have a god given right to travel overseas every year,I have always voted green, and own one property that took an immense sacrifice in immediate pleasures to freehold.
To say you hate millennials and boomers is to declare yourself a sectarian bigot

  9. Thanks Snow White
There were plenty others like me who lived on the smell of an oily rag, and strangely , quite happily!
It was possible then, but not now, with the low wages, high cost of living, no ceilings on rents, and home ownership beyond the grasp of many.

    • Bringing up four children without electricity is pretty heroic – probably real nappies too! I had no washing machine or drier with my first, used buckets and a clothesline, with routines that panned out ok, but it is hard for working mums – getting children off to daycare at very early hours, and dependant on public transport to get to work on time, the stress loads can be high.

    • also that grey power dude that told everybody to vote no to the cannabis referendum is a total fungus face and I hope he’s not a boomer because
      not ok 🙁

  10. “….then there is ‘the fucking boomer’ – white coiffed hair, dripping in gold, International holidays every season & 4 property rentals.”

You do realise, don’t you, that anyone born before 1946 isn’t a boomer? The description you give sounds like somebody older than me, and I was born very soon after the war. Come to that, John Key’s a boomer.

Rogernomics was foisted on us older boomers by the previous generation. We were the ones disproportionately whacked about the ears by it.

That March fellow comes across as bitter and rancorous. As do many of his contemporaries, of course. But it’s pointless blaming previous generations for how things are now.

Everyone – young and old – needs to remember that nobody chooses, either to be born, or the timing of their birth. We all must make the best of the hand that we’re dealt in that regard.
