Marijuana Ballot Measures Pass in Five States

Legal marijuana is becoming the American norm as ballot measures passed in Arizona, Mississippi, Montana, New Jersey, and South Dakota, adding to the 33 states that already allow it for medical or recreational purposes.

Unbelievable! The home of the war on drugs is now more progressive on Cannabis than bloody NZ is, and while we wait for the specials we have a Government telling us that while they have the mandate to end this racist drug law, they will not.

That’s right, Labour’s first act of a second term is to keep a racist drug law on the books.

Aotearoa, it’s māori for ‘nation of straight narks’.

Increasingly having independent opinion in a mainstream media environment which mostly echo one another has become more important than ever, so if you value having an independent voice going into this pandemic and 2020 election – please donate here.

  1. I didnt realise Andrew Little had such nice blue eyes….he almost looks like Ralph Fiennes ( English Patient fame)

I do hope as new Minister of Health he will over-rule the NZ medical profession ( in cahoots with BIG PHARMA and the opioid pain killer industry)and act in the interests of New Zealanders health and in particular the health of the New Zealand elderly….they should all be able to grow their own for their aches and pains and neurological health

  2. Labour must remember it is the people who supported the yes vote, that also put them in Government…do not let Labour forget that, come 2023….perhaps vote for another party — if no progress is made on Cannabis laws ASAP…

  3. Andrew Little is no longer Justice Minister. Faafoi is less likely to have the skills, or motivation, to quash a decriminalisation bill that the GP introduce.

  4. “”””That’s ‘Politics’ compared to the Natural Ethics of Life. Politics and ‘Democracy’ are theoretically the artscience* of social organisation, aka ‘Life’, but the pursuit of agendas – especially religious quasi-morality and corporate-political elitist control of government – and their all important pursuit of votes – has pitted Politics & Life against each other. [Pretty FUBAR thing for an ‘intelligent species’ to do if you ask me?]. “The maximum of freedom for each, combined with the maximum regard for the life and freedom of every other” – Frank E Warner ‘Future of Man’ (London 1944). That should be our starting-point. Cannabis, of course, under such “governance”, would barely be an issue at all, and to the extent it was it would be one of “health” (not ‘harm reduction’) and “wellbeing”, not heavy-handed regulation and control. “”””

  5. So true, and let’s not forget all the tax revenue any sensible government would make out of it, even the Americans could work that one out.

  6. You write @ MB.
“Unbelievable! The home of the war on drugs is now more progressive on Cannabis than bloody NZ is, … ”
Could that be because the fascist right wing faction that gave us nancy’s “just say no” from back in the day are now here in AO/NZ?
If peter theil can walk past one of our government ministries and become an AO/NZ citizen after only being here for a few days or so then who else is already here and no doubt calling the shots so to speak?
My suggestion would be to take a drone to Queenstown and do some spying of your own. There are gated communities which are very private and very secure there.
Make sure it’s a drone you can afford to loose and don’t put your name, address or cell number on it.

    • The so called “War on Drugs” is more like a war on a section of society.
Afghanistan under the Taliban had very little poppy cultivation.
Now under the US poppies are widespread and feeding the largest opioid wave that is distributed through the US CIA to US citizens. A booming industry but no good for the poor folk who are dependent and frantically looking for a way to survive.

  7. Oregon has decriminalized personal posession for ‘hard’ drugs.

Imagine the outcry of having that conversation here. I can’t belive how pathetic NZ is.

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2020/11/04/election-drugs-oregon-new-jersey/

Oregon voters approved a controversial ballot measure decriminalizing possession of small amounts of so-called hard drugs, including cocaine, heroin, oxycodone and methamphetamines. Measure 110 also applies marijuana sales taxes toward payments for drug addiction treatment. Marijuana has been legal in Oregon since 2015

  8. The US has a long history with Cannabis which is in direct contrast to NZ. I think its a shame people said no but this is arguably a democracy so we have to accept it. Maybe in time attitudes will change as decriminalisation spreads around the world.
