The real danger in Trump’s ‘boring’ speech

The verdict from the Democrats is in and it is that Trump’s speech was ‘boring

The criticism is that Trump wasn’t his usual cross burning dumpster fire of entertainment.

I think this criticism is a dreadful failure of imagination.

The Republican National Convention was a frighteningly slick mixture of political circus freaks and conspiracy theories wrapped in a carnival of lies.

The alternate reality Republicans live in seemed a billion lights years away from the 180 000 pandemic deaths, catastrophic hurricanes and forest fires exacerbated by global warming and angry civil rights protests reality the rest of us live in.

The true danger of Trump’s low key delivery was to be declared boring by the Left. Trump can’t win if he doesn’t get white suburban woman who voted for him in 2016 to vote for him again in 2020.

His ‘boring’ speech was set against a back drop of Republican cultural myths and his ‘boring’ speech was bait to those 2016 white suburban woman to make it ‘ok’ to vote for Trump.

The manipulation here is devastatingly obvious.

This is the time to remind voters of Trump’s toxicity, not down play it because we mistakingly think he’s bored everyone.

If all it takes to get Trump re-elected is one speech where his feral revenge fantasies and fetid conspiracy theories are repressed for 70minutes, America is doomed.

  1. Shit Martyn; It struck me as a “statesman like” speech for a change??

I liked him saying “I will hold the Chinese responsible for this deadly invisible Pandemic that has been cast upon our people”.

Pity many more countries haven’t said the same yet.

FFS grow up, it’s a novel naturally mutated virus that turned up in China. Local governmental officials and systems underestimated its threat and initially downplayed or even lied about it. This was later corrected when central Chinese Govt got a clearer handle on it. Who’s to say it wouldn’t have been a similar or worse outcome in any number of counties. Look at USA’s cluster fuck of a response, not a three week initial failure bit an going failure to deal with it over 8 months.

    • Trump lies profusely.
The covid19 appeared in China and they dealt with it although the virus dis not originate there according to world data.
The death rate per capita with covind19 is 180 times higher than China, in spite of the warning time the US had.

The USA has incompetent management and lying politicians paid corruptly by lobbyist organisations from within the US and also from other parasitic states.

  2. Any thoughts on the two gay men that were attacked and the homophobic slurs by BLM outside the Whitehouse after the RNC? It doesn’t fit the mainstream narrative, so…

  3. Boring steady as she goes has always been used by champions of a sitting National governments like Holyoake ,Marshall , Bolger and Key as the sign of a ” natural party of government ” and argumentative for re election ” don’t rock the boat ”
Trump has been uncharacteristically restrained with this delivery almost as if he may fear a real loss in November is a possible reality after all not even he controls everything.
The coming campaign will be anything but boring and expect Trump to destroy Biden and any confidence that a Biden presidency is assured.

  4. BLM as a political movement in the context of the upcoming election is appearing a distinct failure and Biden’s adoption of it a poor strategic choice. Law and Order to white middle class people is an critical issue and we can already see this in the move towards Trump is swing states. Remember this election is down to 5 million white middle class people in approximately 8 states.

Michael Moore’s recent commentary is spot on

  5. BLM is claiming they are exclusive from any other race now, so what about the “North American Indian as our first nation’s race”???

I guess the BLM forgot what race were here first eh?

By claiming to be exclusive BLM will alienate themselves from all other races now; – as to become ” as BLM claims to be exclusive is foreign in today’s modern inclusive society.

    • BLM is a call that has been around for a while. As far as I can see it is not race exclusive.
The figures show that non whites harassed and killed by the Cops include Hispanics, Afro Americans, Malutos, Native Americans, Mexicans and other groups regarded as non whites.

    • What absolute tosh. Please show us any evidence that ‘BLM’ a group who avoid appointing leaders primarily to prevent such out of context attributions, said any such thing.

America surely is doomed anyway. The corruption of the justice system, the power wielded by corrupt politicians, a partisan media show it is too far back. America deserves Trump. Those who were in a position to do something about it were enablers not protectors.

  7. Why does it matter? There isn’t a jot of difference between the parties’ policies. Sure the dims talk compassion & equality but that is all for show. Not only was it the dems who destroyed the US welfare system, Biden himself was the sponsor of the ‘crime bill’ (read lockup as many young african americans as possible for as long as possible), after it passed Biden bragged that “the bill did everything except hang people for jaywalking”. It was the dems who made the US the world’s largest penal complex -incidentally in per capita terms Aotearoa runs a close second.

At least orange buffoon tried to get out of the endless wars in Afghanistan in particular, however the usual gang of the military, the media plus war profiteers such as arms manufacturers put paid to that. dems won’t even try.
Remember it was Obama, Biden & H. Clinton who destroyed the most advanced (education, health, housing) nation in Africa, Libya, for no good reason.

So who cares which one wins? Perhaps if the dems keep losing they will be forced to listen to natural dem voters. 100 million amerikans sat out the 2016 election, it will be more this time, as why bother to vote for an alternative that isn’t, it only offers more of the same; homelessness, high unemployment, no healthcare.

The dem convention featured many republican speakers because the dems want to win by poaching rethug votes, they don’t want to try and win back the 100 million + who have given up because the so called ‘caring & sharing’ party refuses to consider medicare for all in the middle of a global pandemic.
The dems refuse to discuss the issue now, not because they have any compelling reason to object to it which they could sell to the voters though. It wouldn’t go down well if they said “we’re not going to support medicare for all because all our corporate sponsors will bail” which is the actual reason.

No, the advertising blitz which the dems have pushed out this weekend right across amerika, won’t change many minds but it does allow more than 2000 dem advisors to collect a nice paycheck every month for services rendered advising, arguing, scripting and ‘deciding’ the blitz’s targets, associated demographics & consequent ‘message’.
The democrat party is a scam, and industry which serves no useful purpose apart from makework for political wannabes such as Tom Perez.

  8. Hello Cleangreen. I don’t really follow the news. What do you mean they are declaring themselves exclusive? Like in certain branches of a certain religion?
