TV REVIEW: Q&A – Jack Tame destroys Judith Collins over Trust

This mornings Q&A was must watch TV.

Kim Hill’s live crucifixion of Judith Collins earlier is week has been a reminder to Public Broadcasters what their job in a Democracy is supposed to be and Jack just gutted Judith in an exchange over trust.

Judith demanded she was trustworthy and Jack laughed in her face as he listed a former party president leaking personal details to a National MP who passed it along to media and the Health Spokesperson alongside Gerry’s conspiracy theory last week.

The daggers from Judith’s eyes were just joy.

Judith’s problem is that she is a political ghoul, she only wins if the virus wins and so her attempt to paint out the lack of worker testing at the border as the greatest failure in western civilisation is more self interested gloating than genuine criticism, especially because the DNA doesn’t suggest it came through the border.

Chris Hipkins did a poor interview. Jack wanted to know WHY testing workers hadn’t been mandatory, and the answer of course is that the State can’t compel medical procedures but Hipkins doesn’t want to get into that philosophical-ethical-legal argument, which is a mistake because that debate actually needs to be had.

We of course can’t compel people to medical procedures, the innate personal sovereignty of each one of us as an individual with intrinsic civil rights and liberty means it has to be done with our consent unless legal compulsion to force it is signed off by a Judge in extraordinary circumstances.

In a social media environment of conspiracy, any suggestion the Government is enforcing medical procedures would be dangerously inflammatory so you cn see why Hipkins is avoiding discussing it.

Luckily for Hipkins, the virus’s DNA tells us that it doesn’t look like it has come through our Border management process, so Labour will duck a hard punch in the face here.

The panel was Efeso Collins and Fran O’Sullivan. Efeso was a voice of reason and calm and should be leading any discussions about the Pacifica Island Community in the media right now and Fran was decent and righteous in her denunciation of the scum bags who have been attacking the Pacific Island family at the centre of this outbreak.

Kim Hill’s interview with Judith has inspired other Public Broadcasters to lift their game, which is what Jack did this morning, and that’s the best thing that happened in a grim week.

  1. I’m afraid whenever a National MP appears on the telly I turn the sound off. When Judith appeared I turned off the sound and did some cleaning instead.

Reason being I find National and in particular Collins and Brownlee to be extremely toxic. Their negativity and nastiness has become far too much and totally unacceptable.

And as a result of their toxicity they can be assured I would never ever vote for National.

I don’t trust National one bit. Their incredible ability to lie with a straight face is proof enough to me they would lie when it suits them.

They lack credibility, humanity, compassion and caring. I have said this else-where but to me National MPs are Empty Vessels. Not exactly a nice lot to vote for at any election.

    • Justme- On Judith’s ‘straight face’ her mouth downturns are similar to the arrogant pugnacious downturns on Trumps face. Yes-stick to the cleaning. It’s at least not wasting brain cells listening to Judith.
      Jack Tame is good.

    • @Trevor Sennitt … If it’s the same Kim Hill/ Chris Hipkins interview I heard last week, I disagree with you.

Kim pushed Hipkins hard. He did well, being open and not coming across as sneaky or arrogant and didn’t try to divert his answers to something else. He stayed on course throughout the whole interview.

      • We should remember the pressure Hipkins must be under with all his responsibilities.
If I were in his shoes I’d never last in the job.I’d be telling gotcha journalists to f**k off.
Whereas Judith can sit back, purr malevolence like a chesire and stretch her claws.
What is the female equivalence of misogyny?

  2. Agree 100%!
Judith reaping the poison she and her party (except Shane Reti) have been sowing! About time!

  3. The desperate Nats percieved Chucky as a lifeboat for their sinking Titanic, and leapt off the deck of the SS National and into the gloom in hope.
But in the mayhem and chaos of a drowning political entity, they couldn’t discern the glistening teeth of a sea monster.

How many Nat MPs careers will perish after this panicked leap?

How many will lash themselves to the Chucky/Brownstain raft in the hope they can ride it all out, only to end up in the dole queue with the rest of us?

Putting their party in the hands of a psychopath and incompetent lieutenants will be a mistake many Nat career pollies will rue for a long, long time.

  4. Pitiful Judith Collins is; – just a troll for the overseas ravens ready to pluck the remaining meat of the bones of NZ.

    • I’m sorry but @ Kerry… Arse is spelled a.r.s.e. not a.s.s.
      FYI. A literal Ass is:
An animal of the horse family, which is typically smaller than a horse and has longer ears and a braying call.
What the dictionary fails to inform us of is that the word ‘ass’ is a hideous ‘merican-ism’ so to that I say fuck that.

    • Judith was tired and off her game. Jack missed the opportunity to actually talk policy .. and the electorate is poorer for it.

Though in Jack’s defense, nobody seems to have policy .. so yeah. Also on reflection the show was totally done over Zoom [or some such]. But that’s no excuse for the poor questions and commentators .. Zoom some better guests in.

And what’s with that Fran lady – roll her away, not out.

      Sad show all round.

  5. Well from a clinical viewpoint, the over emphasis on testing is dangerous. These pcr tests are not fail safe. Although they are the most reliable Covid-test with an average of 92% plus accuracy it can vary up to 20% false positives or negatives. If they rely on tests once a week, a person might be sick 6 days ahead of the test before that is detected. The health checks on a daily basis is far more important than the test itself. The test should on be a second line of defense on the daily health screening. There are so many pitfalls in testing that it is not a fail safe. PPE, adherence to protocols and health checks for staff at the border should be the first line of defense and testing is just an audit to confirm everything is on track. If to much emphasis is placed on the testing it could give staff and us a false sense of security.

Nz should be more concerned whether the the new cluster is the result of willful sabotage as there were murmuring on a conservative blog how expedient a second wave would to discredit Labor’s management of the crisis and speculation that it could be brought in through a port for eg by yacht through Whangarei port. I would rather ask the question what is Americold relationship with National, has any of its staff a relationship with National, was any of its staff on a trip overseas.

Why did Winston so eagerly state that it was border failure and that he received the information from a journalist? Was it his Cambridge Analytica dirty tricksters that tipped him off, or were they maybe the source of the contamination or just Winstons innocent dirty tricks? What is the role of his dirty tricksters in all the conspiracy theories circulating, as that were there modus operandi in the US and UK, ie breakdown trust in government communication by spreading false rumors. We have seen Nationals involvement in promoting these false narratives. It is in these parties interest to promote public discontent.

The Chinese already have had a cluster as result of covid contaminated seafood in Yantai city and if we ignore this it would be at our own stupidity. When they said use masks we said nah, now we using it, when they said it spread in the air in aerosol form, we again said nah, low and behold it was proved to be true.

Well luckily the virus has a dna sequence that can be traced. Seems there is far to much protest coming from certain quarters on the governments investigation to trace the source, maybe they are worried they get exposed!

  6. The whole of Q+A today was just a pile of puke. Zero policy debate and poor commentators. Not even at the level of many YouTubers or even radio podcasts.

    Shameful episode of Q+A.

  7. Claiming that the particular genome wasn’t present in “managed” isolation is doubtful at best given the general lack of testing and the practice of releasing un-tested travellers into the community. It must have come from somewhere and “managed” isolation is the most likely source. Catching it from a surface is known to be extremely unlikely so I very much doubt the Americold frozen chicken wing theory. The Government is understandably desperate for it not to have come from “managed” isolation and is refuting the female and her boyfriend from Melbourne rumours which many online believe to be true.

  8. Jack was in form today, he also pushed Hipkins to reveal he DOES NOT use the government promoted tracing app. Hypocrite much?

  9. Two points, Muldoon, second Thatcher, all looming in our Judy, as she transcends Judy, what you recon a male lurking, Jude, Yous as Jack Marshall said yous are one of us, they are just members. As basher benefit found out, a party member yet not one of them.

  10. So do you really think the government tells us the total truth? They do the same as the Key government did by using confidentiality clauses in employment contracts of public servants to keep them from telling us the truth. There is much shit happening, but the propaganda machinery is well oiled now. Also, what about SIS and so, we hear little about surveillance issues now on TDB, when Nats govern, this is major, now the spies are left alone to do their ‘job’.

  11. Its funny what Judith was saying ” If john keys gov was in power” Jacks stance would differ.

If that was the case NZ would have followed the American covid 19 model where money is more important than people. John Key is still wanking on about how business must come first.

Can somebody in the media please put this to one of those idiots in the Nats, I would love to hear them talk their way out of it.

If the boot was on the other foot there would be a shit load more dead people in NZ.

ps excuse my grammar, I went to a public school.

  12. If john key was still in government many NZers would be dead. Businesses would be business as usual. And I see hoot- on has crawled out of his hole and said let the virus in, yes Mr virus.

  13. Watched ‘Sunday’ last night and learned that Judith had once gone to Charm School!
I think I saw a raised eyebrow as she said it.
And she didn’t tell us she actually graduated.
    No surprises there, I s’pose.

  14. If you want an Australian style of politics go ahead and vote bulldog Jude…see how well that kind of politics is doing across the tazzy and presented on the world stage.
