Waatea News Column: MAGAtanga conspiracy theory politics is here

The maskless protests in Whangārei organised by Conspiracy groups who believe the Covid Virus is some type of bioweapon spread by 5G to bring about a Shadowy World Government is testament to how politically disenfranchised those abused by the State have become.

For those abused by the Government and for indigenous people who have been oppressed by the State, the rise of MAGAtanga conspiracy theory politics makes sense.

Those who have been let down by the System won’t believe the experts when it matters. They will drift further away from a mainstream media who exist to sell them things they can’t afford and draw their news increasingly from only Facebook, an International Corporation who makes money by emotionally manipulating readers into staying online by prompting users with more and more outlandish content.

This is why Gerry Brownlee’s conspiracy dog whistle insinuating the Government was withholding Covid information this week was so deceitful and dangerous. Gerry enables MAGAtanga protests and empowers Conspiracy theorists like Billy TK.

We are living in fearful times with politicians willing to manipulate that fear for political gain and those who are already righteously distrustful of the State are easy prey for this manipulation.

The need for better funded Public Broadcasting is becoming impossible to ignore as fear and conspiracy run amok.

We must remember that whanau who have been conned into this are good people trying to make sense of a world that has suddenly become very scary, we should applaud their desire to try and understand what is happening, but gently point out that many of these concerns are totally misplaced and based on little more than a terribly misplaced understanding of the scientific facts.

Let us be kind to those who have been sucked in, but call out those who spread and manipulate these fears for their own political gain.

  1. There are those who believe the world is flat. There are probably ways of proving to them that it is not. There are some that will never understand or see it being flat.

If an idea is in someone’s head that some group is taking over the world by putting stuff in peanut butter, something in the printing inks in newspapers, magazines and packaging how do you prove those aren’t so?

Online you can find people running religious money making outfits who trip through life on the money of those who want to believe them. They are all over the place. Te Kahika is onto a winner.

Brownlee is too. What may have made his use of the same approaches surprising was an assumption that he was operating in the rational, sane world.

His desperation means though that everything is legit, while some will see him a sinister slime bag, there are votes to be got, impressions to be created.

How do prove he is talking crap? At least some of those with loony theories appealing to the naive can claim diminished faculties. All Brownlee can fall back on is a lack of ethics and morals. Or maybe he’s simply outlining not his own but his party’s. And his leader’s.

  2. yep we need the Mana party back to represent the deeply marginalised.
and we need to call for restoration of the publicly funded research infrastructure that neoliberalism has disestablished. to start restoring trust in expertise. independent of corporate influence.

    • Cusha is that Mana as lead by Hone, who broke lockdown rules and drove to Auckland to have lunch with his whanau and then got defensive and didn’t apologise for his error? No we don’t need leadership like that thanks.

  3. Apologies for double posting the following here, but having just read and responded to John’s article, I see that my response fits just as well here. And I don’t have time -with urgent preparation underway- to compose something else:

The bulk of the population consists of ‘livestock’ -told where to live, what kind of dwelling to purchase, what to wear, what to eat, what to drink, what to drive, which devices to use, what to read, what to listen to, where to go for recreation when active, where to retire to when no longer active, who to vote for when alive, and who to make ‘the arrangements’ when death arrives -by the corporations that set the national agenda of ostentatious and mostly utterly mindless consumption.

All of the mind control, tell-you-how-to-live systems are backed and promoted by the commercial banks, the Reserve Bank of NZ, and the politicians, of course, with the mind control commencing shortly after birth, and ramped enormously up as soon as school age is reached. Indeed, the modern trend is to commence the indoctrination before school age via early childhood centres.

Whilst providing some protection from miscreants, an important role of the police and ‘justice’ system is to act as enforcers of corporate and governmental dysfunction. Want to protest against fossil fuel use or the ravages of corporate mining? Sorry, that’s illegal. Want to draw attention to the corrupt nature of the system by walking along the road with a banner? Sorry, that’s ‘Disorderly Conduct’, a punishable ‘crime’.

To some extent you can choose which part of the ‘farm’ to live on, but you cannot easily escape being ‘farmed’. And when an outrageous act, such as a group of people organising the demolition of a group of problematic buildings and calling it international terrorism is perpetrated, you are expected to believe the utter bullshit of the official narrative about untrained pilots performing impossible feats of flying, and equally impossible-to-believe phenomena of aircraft engines ‘evaporating’ on impact, following low speed collision with grass! (Pentagon attack and the ‘missing plane’)… all of what followed to being to deliver ‘freedom and democracy’, and having nothing whatsoever to do with “How did our oil get under their sand?” Yeah, right!

The crux of this is that we live in a largely scientifically-illiterate society on non-thinkers, deliberately made scientifically illiterate and non-thinking by the underfunded education system and the corporate media, which enact the agendas of the money-lender-industrial-corporate empire.

The really clever aspect of all this was the invention of the term ‘Conspiracy Theory’ by the CIA (epitome of corporate control and ruthless suppression of counter opinion) in the early 1960s to discredit opposition, when young people were beginning to question the motives and tactics of the financial-industrial-military state -which shortly after went on to literally kill young people at Kent State University for disagreeing.

“If you disagree you get annihilated” -Midnight Oil

The irony now is that if you agree [with the agenda of money-lender-industrial complex] and abide by its arbitrary rules, you still get annihilated! Well your genetic line. that dates back around 3 billion years, does! round 2 decades from now, it seems.

    • Billy the prophet?
He has little clue about many things but presses peoples buttons and reinforces fears and suspicions.
Next thing he will be collecting cash and building himself a base of committed followers.

      • Well it’s bigger than that, John W. Although NOT SAID NOR IMPLIED, it’s a warning to people who are trying to save their businesses. More money out will be good money after bad. The object of the C-19 exercise is to remove the middle class.

        • Evidence please. Any derp id capable of making asinine generalisations such as your ” The object of the C-19 exercise is to remove the middle class”yet providing no evidence to support that contention, the assertion is just so much drivel.
          Enlighten us:
!) Prove Covid 19 is the result of some conspiracy.
          2) Prove that the conspiracy is aimed at the bourgeoisie or ‘middle class’ as you are wont to call the deluded dingbats too distracted by consumerist piffle to know which way is up.
Without any factual support, statements such as the one you made are nothing more than tendentious tossage.
I shan’t be holding my breath.

  4. We are (some kind) of ‘democracy’ so let them speak. Who knows, we might learn something from them that we dont already know?
The only real danger(s) here will be self-inflicted. 7.0% across 15ish smaller partys that dont see eye to eye. It aint gunnah happen.
Best to let them vent in public so that we can all keep an eye on them. Save the SIS, GCSB and the Fuzz wasting valuable resources spying on them.

  5. Well it’s bigger than that, John W. Although NOT SAID NOR IMPLIED, it’s a warning to people who are trying to save their businesses. More money out will be good money after bad. The object of the C-19 exercise is to remove the middle class.

  6. Wake up, workers unite against lies and keep uniting against the circumstances where conspiracy lies take hold. Recognise that Bill is a scum bag like Gerry. Gerry and the Nats want you to think the government is lying to us. They don’t care about you

Think about what O’Dea and Brownz say, it will clear your heads and help us all to know that the big conspiracy is the capitalist system itself, which is designed to exploit you so the bosses can live cushy lives
