GUEST BLOG: Bryan Bruce – How Judith Collins and Jerry Brownlee managed to get up my nose.

There are some people you should allow to get up your nose – such as the nurse at your local GP when taking a sample for a Covid 19 test for free ( where you can go by the way instead of joining a car queue , but do ring first for an appointment).

There are other people who can get up your nose for all the wrong reasons -like the other day when Jerry Brownlee insinuated at a National press conference that the DG of Health and the Prime Minister had conspired to hold back information on the most recent Covid 19 for political gain.

He strung together a collection sentences based on facts but delivered in a tone designed to suggest that some evil intent lurked behind them eg. ‘For some reason the government a few weeks ago began talking about a possible further outbreak.’

The “some reason” Mr Brownlee is that’s what viruses do. Just when you think you have them under control they hitch a ride on someone or something and break out again.

The “some reason” Mr Brownlee is that the DG of Health and his team had been watching what’s been happening in Victoria and many other places around the world and was warning us not to be complacent.

On the same podium at the same time was Leader of the Opposition Judith Collins who, when subsequently interviewed by Kim Hill about Brownlee’s conspiracy insinuation, threw him under a bus.

What a wonderful but frightening insight into the way the machiavellian minds of Judith Collins and Gerry Brownlee work.

David Slack has written a really good piece about this debacle entitled “Happy now , I don’t know about Judith Collins .” You can find it by clicking on this link.

Oh- and for those of you unfamiliar with the phrase “to get up my nose” the appropriately named Collins Dictionary explains it this way:

“If you say that someone or something gets up your nose you means that they really annoy you.”

Destructive conspiracy theories and those who deal in them really annoy me.

So well done Judith and Jerry.

You succeeded.

You got up my nose.

I’ve written about you.

Happy now?

  1. There is something fundamentally wrong with the National Party, they are entrenched in dirty politics whether it be engaging in conspiracy theories, besmirching others, and now even turning on each other as Mr Bridge has done. National are a group of very nasty people, no sign of any gravitas or responsibility.

  2. Excellent article by David Slack.
What a pity the vast majority of the corporate Lame St media didn’t talk about similar and in a similar vein.
Instead, who’d have guessed it they (have to) briefly mention it, but quickly move off topic to a more positive National party ‘bit of (fake) news’.
We are NOT well served by this corporate crap St media that is more like propaganda for the right wing.
Wake up Kiwis and stopped being duped into voting for National or their extreme arm, ACT.

  3. Rapid redistribution of adjacent personnel beneath multi wheeled units of public transportation is rather a Collins specialty.

  4. Both are arrogant and totally untrustworthy. Both are also well-known bullies. These are personal characteristics that have no place in a NZ Government.

In yet another media PR piece masquerading as news, Collins spouted off how much she is loving every minute of being leader of the National Party. That’s a very telling statement if she’s being truthful and that’s a big if. It’s just as likely a message to her colleagues etc that she embraces the challenge of beating Ardern so don’t you dare remove her from the position. National are obviously heading straight to the nearest landfill and the loathing and contempt for Collins grows by the day yet she’s loving every minute?

Collins also spoke of the almost evangelical response at her meetings and how much she enjoys that. Is that some sort of sick joke? If it’s correct, what does that tell you about the people at her meetings? They know National are dog tucker. They know the only people who don’t have complete contempt for Collins are National Party voters. Perhaps the raw meat eating supporters despise Ardern the enemy so much that the only thing that actually matters to them now is watching Collins try to attack and bite Ardern.

Looking forward to witnessing the long-overdue humiliating drubbing of Chucky and Brownstain.

  5. I was once a lazy National party voter. I tended to vote selfishly in my own and families economic interest. I used the time I had in lockdown to give myself a political education and I’ve turned left in my political views.

I saw Brownlee make those insinuations cheered on by Collins and it will be very difficult for me to ever vote National. It was deeply pathetic and irresponsible at a time when the country needs to pull together. If Collins succeeds in bringing Trump style politics to NZ she will be regarded as the worst leader in our political history. I hope National does worse than Bill English in 2002.

  6. I am now finding Judith Collins and Gerry Brownlee to be a very TOXIC couple.

In fact in my opinion the NZ National Party has deteriorated badly since Collins and Brownlee were put in charge.

If they get any votes at the next election I think it will be from those die-hard National Party supporters who have never ever questioned the National MPs policies since Adam was in nappies. In other words the National party die-hards are a brain-washed lot.

The wrong move by Collins and Brownlee has resulted in my no longer bothering to listen to ANY National Party MP on the telly or the radio. And as by association of National MPs they too have been tarred by the same brush of toxicity as Collins and Brownlee.
