The Fringe Far Right in New Zealand are losing their shit

Oh dear. The folks who only use Facebook as their news source are losing their shit right now.

Conspiracy Theorist Billy TK claimed previously that there would be a manufactured lockdown in August and he’s lapping up his prophecy now…

…and the New Conservatives are just as crazy…

…and we have a Deputy Leader of the National Party, Gerry Brownlee, claiming the Government ‘come clean’ last week as the health officials attempted to build a firebreak by asking people to have masks ready.

New Zealanders have been reminded how burnt out they’ve been feeling all year as the Emergency Alerts sounded off again. People are feeling burnt out and frightened and those who wish to manipulate that fear and exhaustion with conspiracy theories should be ashamed of themselves!

We simply have to force ourselves through these moments and recommit to ensuring our borders are tight and safe while denouncing those who would wilfully manipulate panic for political power.

  1. recommit to ensuring our borders are tight and safe while denouncing those who would wilfully manipulate panic for political power.

    Amene to that.

  2. As I said before, the two tenets that National operates under are:

    1. The politics of fear – play on a fear and blame someone for it. The latest one is that the Government is somehow to blame for this latest community transmission of COVID. But it is not only the conspiracy theorists who crawl out of the woodwork like slugs and blame the Government, it is Judith Collins as well. I seem to recall that her party and its blind adherents previously advocated for relaxed border controls. Now she is blaming the Government for what she sees as relaxed border controls.

    2. Dirty politics – the most recent example is from the National party individual who called himself Merv on talkback radio. Someone aptly referred to him as Merv the perv which suits him perfectly. I can just imagine him ogling over the photograph of Nuwanthie Samarakone in her fitness leotard and then, under the cover of darkness, railing against her in a public forum.

  3. You won’t read this from Judith Collins, Act, National, journo’s, sell-side analysts or anywhere besides TDB.

  4. Those paranoid, fear-mongering, hysteria-inducing lines some are putting out there are in some ways worse than the virus. However there is an antidote. Ingredients include: Common sense, calm thought, patience, recognition that the people around us are for the most part acting in good faith. (Make your own mix, add ingredients of choice. Chuck out the muck.)

    • @Kheala.
Your words are very wise in my opinion.
I really don’t have a problem with theories that may be conspiratorial.
I think theories targeting alleged conspiracies are healthy, so long as no one’s slandered, liable’d or otherwise singled out or harmed in anyway, after all, that’s why we have a court system.
Mind you? A kick up the arse for one or two wouldn’t go astray either.
Perhaps entertaining conspiracy theories is, in fact, a good measure for how tolerant we are as a society?
People who want to ban stuff and things worry me more than if a fellow who believes in a thing enough to want to talk about it while not really knowing what they’re talking about. It’s something I often find myself guilty of. But fuck it! So what?
After all? What harm’s an opinion about something while not knowing all the facts? We can’t know ALL the facts, that’d be impossible. We can only take information from what we see, read and hear about that no one might really understand particularly, and form an opinion.
Do we know what c-19 is? No? So what do you think it might be?
Fucking dangerous, incredibly contagious and expresses bizarre behaviour is what we know.
No matter how seemingly loopy it might seem to others, and those ‘others’ are often too lacking in imagination to form an opinion of their own yet they bash up those who do. I say put it out there for debate without the fear of ridicule or worse.
I’ve watched Billy TK briefly because friends sent me a Youtube clip on him talking to another fellow.
My instinct tells me he’s a ding a ling. But who isn’t in some way or another?
An example might be : Who’d a believed it if there was a conspiracy theory about a pig farmer who managed to get into a powerful position within our government who then implemented such damaging and daring financial catastrophes that they brought a wealthy, urbane and socially progressive and equal democratic society the envy of most of the world, in many ways, to its knees for the outrageous profits of one or two?
No one would have believed you!?

      • CB, My concern is that people like that Billy T. K. can whip up conflict between different groups, when we need the opposite of that if we’re going to get through this time ahead with minimum casualties. Have you seen the aggression displayed by some of the anti-maskers. Especially in the US, but a few over in Aus too.

Timing is also a factor. Eg, Is it really the wisest thing to do when someone yells “Fire!!” in a theatre, and when you can feel the heat, to sit down and have a debate about which is the best exit before you move your family out?

  5. His problem is that he’s off balance. Give him a left wing and he’ll be able to fly straight not just spiral downwards squawking with terror. He just needs some TLC from the right quarter.

  6. It’s a charged atmosphere but we must come together as five million strong with one worldview

PS: Can someone please tell Hipkins to put on a full face muzzle

  7. So who engineered this outbreak then?
Who would stand to gain the most politically from a further outbreak just before the election?
    I wonder….

    • Feline fifth columnists:

We know that cats, dogs, and a few other types of animals can be infected with SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, but we don’t yet know all of the animals that can get infected. [CDC]

We demand more salmon, human minions!

  8. There are also anti-mask wearing comments appearing too, in the discussion threads. Not good. Some people are so far down the rabbit hole that they don’t know which way is up. And most in the Advance Jami-Lee Ross NZPP camp don’t appreciate or are unaware of the extreme-right, white supremacist origins of much of this stuff.

  9. Listen to an expert, rather than National Party Trolls and other far-right nutters.

From (https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/health/coronavirus/122418313/coronavirus-how-prepared-is-new-zealand-for-a-second-wave) Prof Mike Baker says “….the Government is in a much better position to cope with the virus a second time around.
We know a rapid response is highly effective. The second thing is that we know a lot more about the virus and how it is transmitted and how it can be controlled.
Other countries taking the elimination approach also had resurgences of the virus.
We are still doing really well, and we are good at protecting people in New Zealand, he said.
We have been through this before.”

Calm the farm folks. We expected this. We know we can beat it. Wash your hands and keep 2m etc etc.

    • …’ Calm the farm folks. We expected this. We know we can beat it ‘…
      ——————————————————————————

That’s the spirit ! I had some very important plans for relocating 100 km’s away this weekend, to find and set up a flat with my son. I am a bit miffed, and more than a little disappointed, a range of thoughts and feelings… but we have to be flexible even though we may hate it. And I do !

Spanish flu, London Blitz, the Great Depression, the Black Death… none of them good, none of them welcome, … but we must remain calm with cool heads.

I believe we have the best govt for the job. They have overseen three crises to date. All three of them big. However I suspect that this would be what we would expect of any govt in this position. Sadly the evidence for that is not forthcoming from those who wish to attain the Treasury Benches and who are now in the opposition.

I also suspect, ( like several others have suggested ) that the line of transmission is from a managed isolation facility. No system is 100% secure. That is security 101. And this would point to human laxity in regular 3 and 5 day ( I think it is ) swabs and tests. There are around 16 hotels/motels in Auckland designated for isolation facility’s I believe.

This is not a govt fault but a localized administrative and ‘ policing’ one.

What it shows is that until an effective vaccine is developed, there can be absolutely no let up in vigilance . Hopefully this doesn’t take hold in greater numbers in the community and the fire is quickly suffocated. Hopefully also this will serve as a stern warning to whatever govt we get after the election.

  10. More ‘Do as I say not as I do’ nonsense

If the hypocrisy of government officials flouting their own lockdown mandates to have illicit sex or go on joyrides around the country makes you incandescent, it seems our own government is ‘above it’ as well. News today that instead of police fighting real crime with our tax dollars they are stopping Aucklanders from travelling to residences outside the region to self isolate (Stuff, n.d. 1). And they say that they can bring in the NZ DEFENCE FORCE to help them restrict movement. Let’s put aside the fact that becoming ill from the flu virus is unlikely but transmission between individuals of the flu is even more unlikely (you have more likelihood of winning Powerball tonight than incurring both). This is the same defence force that recently ignored the regime’s dictates requiring people to quarantine after coming back from overseas (Stuff, n.d. 2). Not only did these hard drinking men of the defence force not quarantine, they tested positive after coming back from the biggest Covid hotspot and then proceeded to spread themselves throughout the country. Why did the country not go into lockdown then (it was reported Ministry officials ‘raised their eyebrows’ over the incident, that’s right they didn’t lockdown, handcuff and muzzle the nation over this mega threat, they ignored it)? This is not about disease, it is about control.

  11. No one did this deliberately although I would dare suggest some had a fair idea this was going to happen judging by the commentary that came out in the last week – simply put it fails the smell test.

This is a classic double-edged sword moment here. Successfully eradicate the re-emergence of covid-19 and enjoy another 2 terms in charge. Stuff this up and allow widespread community transmission and hell hath no fury like a ‘middle’ voter. That’s why we have entered such a harsh lock down for what appears on the surface one isolated cluster.

What are the odds of the MOH managing this well? Dare suggest this is going to be like watching the Warriors up by 10 going into the last 20 minutes….

    • This is the new meme being spun by the right. The old one wore out, eventually. The one they ran from shortly after the coalition got underway through until now, was “the do-nothing govt”. That blatant lie was repeated hundreds or even thousands of times until people began to believe it. (It is absolute BS in case anyone hasn’t yet woken up to that.)

This new meme of the right, articulated here by Frank, is that once the virus gets out into the community and wreaks a bit of havoc, Jacinda and Ashley are to be blamed for it and they are to be thrown out of govt.

Please, don’t give this piece of nonsense legs, as so many on the left did with the old meme. Yes the propaganda machine will be pumping it out, and throwing it around, and filling the airwaves and the blog pages with it. Recognise the inherent lie this time maybe.

    • “No one did this deliberately although I would dare suggest some had a fair idea this was going to happen judging by the commentary that came out in the last week”

The commentary has been there ever since the level 4 lockdown. Where have you been! To suggest some type of conspiracy theory that this happened just last week is just deranged, thus you proving the authors case of the far right losing their shit.

“That’s why we have entered such a harsh lock down for what appears on the surface one isolated cluster.”

These people travelled to Rotorua, went to work and to school and live in the pacifica community, I don’t think you’ve done your homework on Covid-19 and how this virus works/spreads, otherwise you will have seen the devastation around the world. Critical thinking is best in this case.

    • Is this Billy T.K any relation to Billy T.K out of hot music acts from the 1960s and 70s such as Human Instinct and the Sinners?

  12. Ethan Woke and Jody, you seem not to have noticed what is happening in the rest of the world. An actual real live virus killing lots of people, and there you two are playing with yourselves and imagining left wing conspiracy theories. Oh, where have we heard that before? The mighty John Key years where distraction, dishonesty, and outright lying in order to maintain political power (and Key’s massive ego) became the entire game for the National party. Lord save us from your nightmare vision of a free world, which seems to consist of – worshipping the economy, consuming and owning lots of shit, and of course having lots of overseas holidays. You are actually just selfish arseholes!

  13. Conspiracy 1.
Chinese agents have redeployed the virus hidden in fruit and Watties baked beans cans into South Auckland supermarkets to punish NZ for backing democratic freedom in Hong Kong.

    Conspiracy 2.
National black ops operatives have smuggled the virus in South Auckland to undermine Labours track record ,popularity and attack Aderns credibility.Treason .

    Conspiracy 3.
Labour has created a false narrative and fabricated a make believe tv crisis which isn’t actually real .It will be swiftly solved by actors playing covert doctors and patients and thereby lift the party to saviour status prior to election day .

    Conspiracy 4 .
Aliens have fallen in love with kiwi cows but have reintroduced the virus to get rid of NZ humans who just don’t understand ” cow love ” and must be eliminated.

Or maybe we should just wait till Friday to obtain a more realistic explanation .

More batshit crazy Kookynana foilhat nutbars are not helping solve this .

    • Why would aliens want to travel from way across the galaxy in their space ships just to come here to mutilate cattle, steal all the frogs and poke things up the bums of Americans?

  14. Not fringe anymore, sweeps in and out of the regular Right. My sister just sent out the cartoonish crap of the New Conservatives. Sean whatshisname, once on RNZ Mornings, on his talkback show today called a Labour supporter a Communist. Without leadership the Left loses. See Amerika. Ardern is dedicated above all to 1984. And the Greens don’t have force for the people. No one willing to Glasgow kiss anyone.

I met Sean whatshisname, pearly cheeked of youth, in the Newtown, Wellington, supermarket in 2003. Such a twisted brow looking at my 36-year-old journalism student barefeet (just like the Assyrian checkout operator’s view). I don’t have money but I know better. Inverse relationship at best I think. Take no money like that Uruguayan President. Or, for that matter, Jesus.
