The Political Ramifications of the new Virus outbreak & 3 questions we need answered

1717

There are political ramifications of this new outbreak.

If this is traced to a border leak that can be painted as incompetence by National, Jacinda and Labour will take a terrible hit as the adoration turns quickly into blame.

If the flare up can be contained and snuffed out, it will remind the electorate of Jacinda’s leadership and Labour will gain more gratitude from the electorate.

The 3 questions now are:

  • Can our track and trace system work?
  • Will we need to lock down for longer?
  • How did it get into the country?

Increasingly having independent opinion in a mainstream media environment which mostly echo one another has become more important than ever, so if you value having an independent voice going into this pandemic and 2020 election – please donate here.

  1. The response simply has to be to keep everyone informed in a super aggressive manner so we can adapt aggressively and run everything remotely. Evolution will surprise all our efforts anyway.

  2. Whatever the source, if it is found, it’s very hard to imagine the country will decide they want anyone else was in charge of proceedings.
I don’t think it will make an iota of difference to the election result. It might even work against national.

    • This.

Compared to the rest of the planet we’re a shining beacon of hope and solidarity. National are fucking doomed whatever they do, and Collins’ uncontrollable expulsions of snark aren’t doing either her or her party any favours. (Not to mention the hilarious escapades of ‘Merv’, and Michael Woodhouse.) I haven’t seen this many people bagging National for a long time, including formerly hardcore National supporters. The zealots would vote for a goat if you put a blue rosette on it, but a great many people are singularly unimpressed with National’s antics. And with good reason. If you disregard their grubby behaviour, all they’ve got is ‘ROADS!’ and ‘TOUGH ON GANGS!’, and those steaming turds aren’t selling well this time around. It’s all ‘economy’ and no ‘society’. Almost as though they don’t really give a shit about the general public other than at election time… would you believe it?

I have every confidence Jacinda and Ashley will do whatever it takes to stamp on this, including upsetting New Zealand’s fragile and easily triggered ‘business interests’, who still don’t seem to have grasped that if everyone dies, there’ll be no one left to run their factories or buy their junk. People MUST come first.

    • Agreed D.J.S. Who is going to want National in charge during this pandemic? Even the hard line Natzo supporters will be crapping themselves again, genuinely scared of this virus, and rightly so. Oldies are in
big danger with this thing around. I’ll put my faith in PM Ardern and Dr. Bloomfield, they deserve our cooperation once again. I think most of the 5 million will as well.

  3. Send your bills for loss of income to Ashley ‘Doomsday’ Bloomfield, the big man who weasled his way into government and ruined this country with his decrees. My health has got nothing to do with this lot, it never has and never will.

  4. Get ready for the barrage of nutcase theories about Satanic/paedophile rings using the hoax virus to control the population and subdue everybody in readiness for the Bill Gates vaccine that will turn us into sheeple and we can all be mindlessly manipulated into killing our unborn babies and selling them to the KGB for blood-spilling ritual worship and meanwhile Winston can keep his thumb on Jacinda and keep selling us out to China to cover America’s mafia debt and China can get all our oil and minerals and the New World Order will force upon us an evil form of communism run by Jacinda’s friend Bill Gates, Bill Clinton and other paedophile Satanic globalists and the only person who can save us is the Messiah Donald J Trump.

  5. I warned of this to happen, as there have been too many breaches of rules, there have been cases of people testing positive even after leaving NZ recently, and now it is showing: Covid 19 is alive and well, possibly in pockets in New Zealand, that have not been detected yet.

So will the wage subsidy be extended now, will we go even more into debt, will landlords be told not to send tenants packing, will we have a return to a full Level 4 lockdown come Friday, steering this country’s economy really into deep, deep shit?

I can see people going rioting, arguing, fighting all over Auckland soon, those who reject a hard lock down and needing money and food and more, those others obeying the law.

    • Actually, the P.M. and Bloomfield mentioned some time back that it was a case of when, not if it gets back into the country. Nothing you say is not known but let me ask you this, what would an is now YOUR thoughts on how you would manage this and steering us to a strong economy? This is your chance to be a real Nostradamus.

      • You say, “the P.M. and Bloomfield mentioned some time back that it was a case of when, not if it gets back into the country.”

So they have known for some time that our health and economic safety was at genuine risk, yet maintained an open border touting our safety is priority?

Moreover, only the other day (see link below) the Government seemed to be buckling to influential private sector pressure to further reopen it.
        https://www.rnz.co.nz/national/programmes/morningreport/audio/2018758201/robertson-not-philosophically-opposed-to-private-managed-isolation

We’re not looking too safe now. However, there is still no talk from the Government of further limiting or closing the border.

The current spread is suspected to come for a border slip up, yet the border remains open, potentially leaving us open to further contagion while we are trying hard to contain its local spread.

Therefore, we either have to shutdown the border (or further limit and better manage entry) or be prepared to continuously put local lives at risk and face having the economy continuously shut down.

  6. Yes, according to Judith Collins it’s all Jacinda Ardern and the govts fault. I would say this pathetic excuse for an “opposition leader” will get just rewards at the election……if we have one.

  7. I think the general consensus is lock down again you have got to be kidding !!
Patience has run out for a higher level and if it is to last longer.
People will be uncooperative this time and will be willing to break the rules.
Should be an interesting next seven days.
The general election could be delayed if the community is in danger from local transmission.
I really hate this thing and the damage it is doing. Just sucks !!!

  8. The potential political ramifications of this community spread look like this.

Option 1) If the community spread is the result of Government negligence, they are in trouble. Any novelty feelings about going back into level 3 will be quickly replaced by anger. People’s confidence in the Government will be severely damaged and National will push the knife in deeper all day every day. Some voters will want to punish the Government. They will survive however but any prospect of Governing alone will be gone. Can’t see how it can be the Governments fault as idiots will always be idiots. That is never a reflection of any Government. I rate this scenario as a 5% chance at this stage. I’m picking this community spread likely comes from someone working security at a quarantine facility or at the border. What concerns me is just how bad this spread is. In recent weeks we’ve had “kiwis” arriving offshore with the virus onboard. The narrative pushed was that the person or people caught the virus while in transit. Was that correct or a reflection of something else? Another concern was just how woefully slow they were at declaring even obvious cases of community spread during the March / April level 4 lockdown. It was taking weeks and even then they would only say they now assume it was community spread. Yes it takes time to track people down etc but that should be days, not weeks. It “appeared” they wanted to control the narrative to avoid panic. Another concerning aspect were the reports I witnessed last Thursday from health professionals in my family. It was reported within these circles of cases of community spread being in Christchurch. 5 days later we hear of the potential devastating situation at an aged care facility in Christchurch. Coincidence?

Option 2) This is what I consider the 95% reality of this community spread. It’s game over for National. They had already conceded defeat to Labour on their superb leadership in handling the Covid crisis. They desperately tried to undermine that 93% support via dirty politics as their only election strategy. The homeless man living it up in isolation, the circumstances of their involvement in the two English sisters being released from quarantine on compassionate grounds and then cuddling on the motorway (via Michelle Boag) and the despicable release to the media of very personal details of Covid patients. This was of course followed by the use of “shambles and shambolic” 98.785 times by Muller and co. It all backfired on them in epic style. They realized their strategy was 100% wrong. They had to take Covid off the table. The answer was to push the narrative that this election was all about the economic crisis. They even wheeled John Key out to push Nationals theme song. The Covid crisis is over, in other words, Labours job is done. It’s all about the economic crisis now, in other words, it was time for National. What an absolute cock. It was always a mix of a Covid and economic crisis. Key even spouted off that Ardern didn’t care about the economy. The people who “didn’t care” were the previous National Government. There is a very long list of very telling examples that proved that. John Key’s party political broadcast on behalf of the National Party was a disgrace. If his adamant instruction had been followed, we’d have Victoria type carnage courtesy of the National Party. I hope this shameful and cynical bullshit from Key puts him into mothballs permanently. NZ does not need that man undermining the superb job our Government has done keeping kiwis safe.

Ardern was 100% correct. This is the Covid election and that has now been highlighted in RED. There is only one party NZ trusts to manage the situation and keep them and their loved ones safe. National were already on track for an unprecedented drubbing in the polls next month. Having Covid back on the table is National’s worst nightmare. They are now 100% dead in the water and will be furious. Chucky has already been busy pointing her finger at Ardern despite there not being a shred of evidence to justify that. It’s little more than a window into just how desperate National are now. Expect much more of the same but that will backfire on them big time. Lose lose for National now. Very sad of course 🙂

  9. Answers to your questions:

1). No – mass surveillance/tracking never works in a democracy however ‘pure’ the intentions
2). Of course we will – this is a given
3). Lack border quarantine and/or a lack of testing in the community

This has ‘gong show’ all over it. This is all on 2 people – their own little pet project – let’s see how they handle it when the boot is on the other foot. This has Melbourne mark 2 written all over it. Some more pertinent questions:

a). If lock down extends is it still acceptable to have an election?
b). Are we set up for an outbreak (i.e. ICU beds, testing regime etc)
c). If the first positive test was last week why weren’t we alerted to a possible positive test last week?

    • C. Positive test confirmed at 2.30PM yesterday.
This confirms conspiracy and bullshit similar to Michael Woodhouse’s mysterious homeless man.

      • I’m led to believe this was the follow up test and an initial test came back positive a few days back – might be wrong however if this was the case then should have been listed as a probable case then.

Don’t worry Bert – timelines will come out in due course

    • Frank the Tank … umm because test results take time to process and the MOH and the govt wanted to get it right, without causing mass panic!

As for your comment “Lack of testing in the community” … a close health professional family member has been working their guts out, along with many other health professionals performing community CV19 testing! Get your facts straight please, before hitting the ‘Post Comment” button!

      • Health Minister Chris Hipkins has said he wants an average of 4000 tests a day to make sure the disease has not resurfaced anywhere.

Yet, the Government has failed to achieve those on average daily testing numbers. Roughly, around 300,000 more people should have been tested by now.

And when it comes to testing in areas of significance (ie front-line airline crews, customs officers, caterers, hotel staff, security guards, cleaners, bus drivers, police and defence personnel) testing was also lacking (see link below).
        https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/health/coronavirus/300075002/leaked-covid19-report-warns-border-isolation-and-quarantine-staff-carry-the-highest-risk-of-causing-an-outbreak.

The question that hasn’t been asked is can the Government genuinely claim New Zealander’s safety is a priority while maintaining an open border?

What comes first, the safety of the team of 5 million and our local economy or the inconveniencing of the million or so who are overseas and are wanting to come back?

  10. Kia ora Bomber, saying that it’s Jacinda’s and the governments fault is like saying murders are the police’s fault. The government might make the rules but breaches/breaks are most likely human error.

    • If that is the case then our success before this case has nothing to do with the PM or the government – all to do with the team of 5 million….

        • What the immigration ponzi scheme? Where we hid low productivity, decaying infrastructure and bureaucratic strangulation by pump and dump immigration. You’ll find i’m far more scathing regarding the Key/English economic plan than your average housewife Jacinda facebook fan.

The irony now is that a continuation of that plan is the only feasible way we are going to trade out of the mess we find ourselves in presently. Unless of course you want to become the Greece of the South Pacific – effectively bankprupt and +20% unemployment.

  11. Hopefully the cause will be something we can hang around Ardern’s neck.

“Being Kind” just doesn’t cut it – some basic managerial competence is also required.

  12. Jacinda looks like she didn’t sleep. I do hope someone is looking after her, she is precious . We might have been incredibly lucky to have almost accidentally put her in charge. We don’t realy need an election this time everyone knows the result.

    • What are your odds that the election is actually held in September? Lengthening considerably I would say. If there is large scale community outbreak and a delayed election who benefits?

It’s an interesting question to ponder as the opposition doesn’t get any screen time however I get the feeling there won’t be a happy team of 5 million this time.

      • It might well be postponed but it can’t be put off forever and covid might be with us for nearly that long. If it looks like this can be contained it would be sensible to delay until it runs it’s course , but if it turns out that it is out of containment then we might as well get on with it.

  13. I’m still waiting for John Key’s response to the community outbreak of CV19. After all a few days ago wasn’t he saying we should open the borders, let wealthy foreigners in to buy up large in NZ, to help the economy? Sorry speak up Mr Key, can’t hear you …

As for Judith Collins. What is her practical solution to managing CV19 in this country? Still waiting Ms Collins …

    • mary _a Collins has nothing, nothing at all. I bagged Bridges for barking at parked car, but Collins is the proverbial mutt.

  14. When I read some of the comments from the national trolls on this site, I see see how they seem to brush of stuff like nothing has happened, like water of a ducks back. We had Merv, the homeless man, the release of people private covid information, what sort of people are they ? To me these are not the sort of people we would want in our team or any team. Nor do we want or need these type in our country. When Labour wins the election it would be good if they left and that is putting it nice.
