  1. So, the Red Shed is sacking people, changing the hours of others and closing stores.
I feel for the people losing their livelihoods but I also truly hope that this is the beginning of the end for these crooks.
They ride into town, open their big stores, sell their budget crap, force the local retailers out of business and once they have got their foot in the door change their operations to suit themselves.
Take a drive through Tokoroa or Kaikohe and look at their retail stores. Then, take a drive out to the local landfill and look at the additional piles of 2nd rate crap whether it be toys, furniture, clothes or pretty much anything else that has obviously been purchased from one of the Warehouse Stores.
Tonnes and tonnes of cheap crap, manufactured in countries with dubious human rights and labour policies that are all in their own way contribution to the destruction of the planet.

Then we have the provision of their in house “credit” cards allowing those that can least afford it to put themselves even further into debt to purchase good that simply don’t last.

    • The Warehouse kept Walmart USA out of NZ. However KMart from Australia? has come in and been more upmarket than The Warehouse which by the way has done things for NZ and is owned in NZ. KMart is open 8 am-12 pm. I bet much of their stuff moves on quickly too. Look at the whole situation, don’t act simple-minded and release all your venom for the whole damned business scene signed up to by all major Parties on one target.

Walmart USA has become mega-wealthy out of setting up outside towns, with big car parks so materialists can wander through their cathedrals of commerce, dripping with eye-catching bargain bins, like pirates’ treasure chests. Similar pattern with hardware mega-stores. Just a change from attachment to religion and concern about the soul, to the anti-christ it could be called, where soulless people drift and use shopping as a stop gap to cover dull holes their empty lives. People flock to these stores because we are influenced by television and conformism to empty, showy status providing temporary consolation for our intelligent, disordered minds seeking meaning but lacking any personal reflection and philosophical thought.

  2. There’s a good discussion promising some fertile ideas and informed opinions on The Standard – called
https://thestandard.org.nz/can-a-renewed-provincial-growth-fund-save-us/. Why not hop in with your ideas and
cross-fertilise the pillars of political discussion. We need to put citizen thought and knowledge into politics if we are going to have anything left of our country after opening up the gates to the world and welcoming them to take our stuff!

  3. https://www.rnz.co.nz/programmes/the-detail/story/2018755389/inside-oranga-tamariki-is-it-an-organisation-unravelling
This is an important news item about Maori family welfare and ‘Orange’ Tamariki where, it is said, theyare tolf to use a lot of Maori words in their reports because it sounds good, ‘snigger’ follows from speaker. All trust will be lost between Maori and pakeha, which has been gradually built up over decades, a century. It is bruising listening to this and I am deeply hurt that the government employs people bigoted people here and from overseas who are ready to put the boot into our race relations. We can find the superior type right here.

And I can’t help wondering if Ms Moss from Ireland has some Irish ideas about how to treat females who don’t measure up as was graphically shown in the film The Magdalene Sisters (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4dqMxvJLmew
