National leader Judith Collins unveils $31b transport plan to crush Auckland’s congestion

New National leader Judith Collins is promising that, if elected, her government would fix Auckland’s congestion crisis and transform the Upper North Island into the most dynamic region in Australasia.

So if National were free to dream a dream it would be a 4 lane fucking motorway?

Why are we spending billions on roads no longer under vast stress by 3million tourists?

Surely this money would be better spent on quarantine infrastructure to increase the capacity of returning NZers, migrant workers and tourists entering NZ than on a dozen motorways?

I think National MPs fantasise about bloody roads!

But it gets worse, this total lack of imagination brain fart of a policy isn’t even costed! Something Judith Collins had the audacity to just shrug off when she was challenged about National not actually costing this motorway fetish of theirs!

‘Dopey’: Judith Collins defends lack of precise costings for tunnel projects

TDB Recommends NewzEngine.com

Judith Collins has defended not costing some of her party’s big-spending transport plans, saying it would be “dopey”.

In her first big policy announcement as National leader, Collins this week unveiled a $31 billion plan to get Auckland and the northern regions moving again.

…ummm, not costing your own promises isn’t ‘dopey’ it’s fucking incompetence!

Add this woefully released brainfart with Judith’s weird woke criticism and one starts appreciating the up hill fight National are facing here.

This is their problem…

…only 22% want Judith as leader compared with Jacinda’s 60%.

Judith may have softened her image but the simple truth is her malice and blood lust can’t be constrained.

In their most desperate hour the National Party caucus has reached out to a dirty politics politician they can’t control.

Remember the fable of the Frog and the Scorpion…

A scorpion, which cannot swim, asks a frog to carry it across a river on the frog’s back. The frog hesitates, afraid of being stung by the scorpion, but the scorpion argues that if it did that, they would both drown. The frog considers this argument sensible and agrees to transport the scorpion. Midway across the river, the scorpion stings the frog anyway, dooming them both. The dying frog asks the scorpion why it stung despite knowing the consequence, to which the scorpion replies: “I couldn’t help it. It’s in my nature.

…National is the Frog. Judith is the Scorpion.

  1. A previous National government that Judith Collins was an MP of had about 9 years to do something about Auckland rather than bring more people into the country to live in the city.

National have done nothing for ordinary NZers in all the years there has been a National government. In reverse they have ALWAYS done things to suit themselves, their ego and the support of those multi-millionaires that donate heavily to the NZ National Party in return for Instant Kiwi Citizenship.

A previous National government made a pre-election promise of more bridges for Northland. That never happened. Instead Bill English got a bridge built closer to his home and the population of Northland which is a Labour Party area were shown a typical National Party broken promise.

A promise by a wannabe National lot is something we just cannot trust or even believe would happen once the votes are counted. National just cannot be trusted to keep a promise. Because keeping a pre-election promise it too alien to them. It just goes against their normal way of thinking and logic.

To date a number of National MPs have jumped ship. Their reasoning and explanations being many and varied. But all in all I wonder if many have realised Judith Collins is not the sort of person they want to be working with. She is too vindictive and too nasty. She wants to create National into HER OWN image and that is probably something a number of National MPs just cannot or do not want to deal with.

And so what is now left in the amended NZ National Party are the troughers and the dregs. They are the ones who Judith may call her ‘Inner Circle”. Her favoured pets and puppies and more crudely speaking ‘arse lickers’. They are the ones who will never question anything Judith does because that could mean she resorting to pure vindictiveness and under-handed tactics to get rid of them.

Lets see what ‘drip fed’ information that is in a round-about way traced to Judith’s office starts appearing in the mainstream NZ media?

She(Collins)has resorted to dirty deeds in the past and she may well be doing the same thing again.

One can never trust her because she trusts No-one.

    • Exactly.
Always going to do something (honest !!) but never actually doing it, NOR giving full budget and pricing info that Labour MUST produce or they are laughed out of court.

  2. Yep Martyn, ‘Judith is a scorpion’ alright so she didn’t say the $31 billion ‘transport plan’ was her’s did she??

If she claims that it’s; – then slie is lying again.

As this plan was actually a paper that was produced as a national policy proposal for Todd Muller for his plan to make a “greener, smarter, future” so here is Todd Muller’s own words fronting the new future plan for NZ inducing the “infrastructure/transport plan so Judith Collins was lying to say it was her plan; no it was her former leaders plan not hers, and we have criticized the plan as it failed to include rail which is the greener smarter transport than roads.

Here is our latest complaint of national transport plan and we invite you to take it anywhere and speak about our claims.

“CEAC National Lacks ‘A Greener Smarter Future’ Plan In Their $31B Transport Plan”
Citizens Environmental Advocacy Centre – Environmental press release. 18/7/20

CEAC review of Judith Collins release of a National Party historic $31 billion Dollar Todd Muller’s ‘transport plan’ again lacks any policy of a ‘zero carbon’ “Greener Smarter Future” so we challenge Judith Collins to explain how building more highways can reduce our future to a ‘zero carbon future’?

In our review we post the Todd Muller plan here as a ’refresher’.
National Party “A Greener, Smarter Future”

    A Greener, Smarter Future
    Todd Muller;
That third element is inextricably linked to the fourth element of National’s Plan to Get New Zealand Working: a greener, smarter future.

New Zealanders want a greener future, and the world wants food, fibre and holidays that are green and sustainably produced. My commercial background is in agri-business, on the senior executive teams of Zespri and Fonterra and as CEO of Apata. But my political background has been mostly in climate change policy, negotiating the historic Zero Carbon Act with the Greens’ James Shaw, including bringing along some of the more sceptical voices in my own party.

National commits to the Zero Carbon framework, and to cleaner lakes and rivers in provincial New Zealand – and a cleaner Lake Ellesmere/Te Waihora here in Canterbury, and a cleaner Waitemata Harbour in Auckland. I do not see any conflict between the interests of agri-business and a greener future. I reject the Government’s demand on Tuesday that agriculture must be “transformed” rather than constantly evolve and improve by building on our status as the most productive and sustainable food-and-fibre producers in the world.

New Zealand has the world’s best farmers, and New Zealand agricultural scientists. National launched the Global Research Alliance on Agricultural Greenhouse Gases, which now involves nearly 60 countries working together to find ways to grow more food without growing greenhouse gas emissions. It is well within New Zealand’s capability to keep improving productivity while protecting and enhancing the natural environment from which we all draw our mauri as New Zealanders, and on which our economy is based. That in turn creates intellectual property for export.

A greener, smarter future is about much more than tourism and agri-business. It is about technology and intellectual property across the board, which is clearly the future New Zealand must focus on whatever the industry – including the super-coders I mentioned for the video game industry, and in every area, from movies, to rocketry, to accounting software.”

As well as the looming challenge of AI we also need to invest further in connectivity, as a major enabler of better services, better productivity and better lives, whether you are in Auckland or Akaroa. Where would New Zealand have been these past few months without Amy’s Ultra-Fast Broadband Network? We need to take it to the next level of its development. As we enter the 2020s, every New Zealander and every one of our businesses needs to know that the whole world is open to them in a way that other countries can only envy – and that’s what my Government will deliver.

National’s vision is of a post-Covid economy that is greener, smarter and better than the one we had before.

CEAC response here is; – Since Government’s recent data from (MBIE) of emissions inventory from road freight transport is not reducing but increasing, we now advocate for rail with steel wheels especially if electric motivated is the best way to reduce our freight transport emissions and benefiting from reducing pollution ‘runoff’ from our roads into our waterways, lakes rives streams, aquifers, drinking water and poisoning us so what’s not to like here as this is real greener smarter future isn’t it?

CEAC has long been advocating to clean up our waterways being daily polluted by other environmental contaminants not currently recognised, such as “road runoff” of vehicle emissions and toxic tyre dust pollution entering our steams alongside our highways and city roads.

National Party has not even mentioned this looming issue yet?

This has been documented in global scientific documents all over the world and was included in a 104 page report from the Ministry of Transport from as long back as 2002, and the report is entitled “Emissions factors for contaminants released from motor vehicles in NZ”
“In New Zealand, emissions of key constituents from motor vehicles to air can be assessed using the Vehicle Fleet Emission Model. The user output from a run of this model is currently provided in the form of the user model NZ-TER (refer MoT 1998, MoT 2000, MonCrieff & Irving 2001).”

Also found in this UK scientific report.

These documents is evidence is the ‘elephant in the room’, as on pages you can see the tyre dust deposits left on a road is washed down our road drains and into our waterways and drinking water and causes cancer to humans and animals alike.

CEAC has strongly always said that rail with steel wheels especially if electric motivated is the best way to reduce our freight transport emissions finding ways to stop road runoff pollution washing off our roads into our waterways and entering our drinking water then poisoning us.

CEAC has carefully reviewed this subject and now has strongly requested that rail with steel wheels and if electric motivated is the best way to reduce our freight transport pollution and climate change emissions.

    END.

  3. No foreign tourist is going to spend 2 weeks in quarantine to visit NZ. Also no NZer will go overseas for a holiday only to spend 2 weeks in quarantine on the way back. Tourism in NZ consistently represents about 10% of the total NZ economy (a lot less than I thought):
    https://figure.nz/chart/MHofItXMEuhyY6SA
Of that, about 40% is from international tourism. Given that NZers won’t likely go overseas on vacation in the foreseeable future, they’ll spend their money domestically instead. I’m estimating that will likely halve the 4% of lost GDP from the border shutdown. That is a hit, but definitely isn’t ruinous. Not sure if NZers will be content with a future where any and all overseas travel whatsoever will come with a two week quarantine on return though.
Given that Australia has apparently given up eradicating CoVID…
    https://www.republicworld.com/world-news/australia/pm-australia-not-attempting-to-eradicate-virus.html
and the US/UK/Europe/South America have let the the virus run amok, the trans-Tasman bubble and any other international tourism is now a pipe dream unless Labour completely backtracks and deliberately allows the virus back into NZ (I’m sure that wouldn’t go down well, but the options are pretty much binary imo).

  4. “Why are we spending billions on roads no longer under vast stress by 3 million tourists? ”

Unfortunately, these people still do not seem to realise that the coronavirus is a global phenomenon which has forever changed the international landscape, and one immediate result is that we are unlikely to again be subject to the surfeit of tourists for whose easy money we’ve been prostituting this country.

  5. It seems her aim is to transform the NZ National party into the Auckland National party.

This will not be well received down here in the South

  6. There is a very simple logical explanation as to why there are no costings. They just made this shit, I mean, policy up. Like yesterday over brunch. They have not got a clue how this is going to be achieved.

A 4 lane expressway from Whangarei to Tauranga, via two tunnels under the Brynderwin’s and the other under the Kaimai’s? What. Fucking. Ever.

But wait, there’s more. They will honour all of Labours transport policies except the Light Rail and Phil Twyfords completely out of hand gold plated footbridge attached to the Harbour Bridge that is never going to happen anyway because Phil couldn’t organise an egg and spoon race.

But fear not and better than that is they will build another tunnel under the Waitemata for public transport and rail. Public transport? National Party? WTF???

AND – There will be rail links between the airport and Onehunga (actually an excellent idea).

And more lines down the main trunk in Auckland. And some other cool stuff too!

And, one assumes, a set of steak knives for everyone who votes National.

I have seen some epic bullshit come election time but this is the Mother of all Bullshit. And just maybe Judith thought “fuck it, we are rooted so we may as well go out laughing” Who really knows?

    • They just made this shit, I mean, policy up. Like yesterday over brunch.

I think you’re right, and if they thought there would be votes in selling a four lane highway to the moon, that’s what they’d be offering. Not to mention the realestate up there on the ‘big cheese’ .. (Tax free, to all Nats voters: “Roll up, Roll up! Buy your moon highway pre-toll tickets here, and your first block on the big yellow rock over here.” )

      • Somewhat ironic really given that quite a lot more people work from home now since that covid thing has been happening… and the roads in Auckland are noticeably less busy.. even before the holidays.

    • As a past Tauranga resident, that way to Auckland is through Katikati-Waihi etc. You don’t go over the Kaimai’s at all, unless going to Hamilton?

  7. Road works and rail projects are a dead end. And it does seem that Judith “woke,” comment had something of a deeper meaning. Sometimes we do not see everything. I just wish there was a local blog where we could discuss our concern about the rise of violence in NZ. Gunshots every day? Does anyone over 45 like me remember that here?

  8. By the way, Electric driverless cars are available today and are safer than human driven cars.

The MAIN reason they are not ubiquitous today is because of corrupt politics. e.g. It will kill off 90% of new car sales and after sales businesses. So the USA etc are SCAED to allow them and use bogus arguments against them, e.g. they’re not a 100% safe. True but they are 10x’ish safer than humans and getting better at about 20% per annum !
As NZ has NO car production to speak of that is an irrelevance.

So if NZ are not as corrupt and under the control of ‘big money’, then we should allow driverless car, especially taxis. This would cut cars on the road by 80-90 over the next 7 years, i.e. people (90%+) wouldn’t buy another car, when their present car was due to be ‘replaced’. Thus NZ would need less roads NOT more and parking in towns/cities would be freed up, so we can green the spaces (about 30%) they free up.
So utterly and absolutely NO need to build all these wet-dream roads Natz are lying about, from so many different arguments. So if that’s all they have, they are ‘dead in the water’ dinosaurs.

    • What utter shit.
They are not ubiquitous because they are nowhere near advanced enough.
They are fine on a “golden path” but are completely unsuitable for anything slightly resembling an imperfect scenario.
Do some research before spouting this dribble.

    • Labour will SAVE LIVES

      Their proven track record

      National will BUILD ROADS

National will pull empty “promises” out of magic hats, wave them around to see if anyone’s buying, then haul the next optical illusion out of same magic hat.

  9. As per my prediction two days ago here–National will campaign on
1:Think Big —Inspiration from Muldoon —I picked that one –it came true on Friday
2:A Don Brash inspired “Orewa” Speech —wait for it its coming! This is all they the Nats have left in the tank
they will drop this on the public at a key part of the Campaign.

Judith really think/believe’s they can win by copying the past National heavyweights–its laughable:)

  10. Oh my God!? I think real change is a-foot.
    The veils are lifting…
The bloody national party are really just mosquitoes flying in for the vein. Nothing more. They’re fakes. They’re facades. Tinsel Town jonky led the way. We could see how is wafer thin bullshittery was as transparent as a thing that’s quite transparent.
All they want is unearned respect to leverage you away from your money. The right wing are really not much more than a diseased appendix. They need to be cut out but better yet, they’ll not be missed when we do that.
I mean??? What nut came up with an expensive roading idea in and out of a city that’s soon to be redundant?
I know what it is. National et al have been huddled in a small room all gabbing at once and they’ve become intoxicated on their own gasses.
Judith collins gasses anyone? No takers? Not surprised.

  11. National will build a future
    Labour will mortgage our future.

It is not possible to love your kids and vote labour

  12. I see this morning we have yet another PR campaign running for Collins masquerading as “news” on an alleged news website. Remarkably, not one but four offenders have put their name to the absolute twaddle. I strongly suspect they name 4 people so one person does not get easily targeted for publishing such utter and dangerous horseshit. I’ve seen this before on the same website when they published yet another load of dogs bollocks against Ardern.

    https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/politics/300059051/nationals-base-sound-familiar-note-on-jobs-and-economic-recovery

Why do they assume a snapshot of her devoted diehard supporters is in any way indicative of how mainstream NZ with brains bigger than a sultana view Collins? Why didn’t they just interview Collins family and extended family and use that as some type of perverse reflection of how NZ sees her? They acknowledge “the poll was entirely unscientific” which of course is a euphomisim for totally bias and worthless horseshit.

They even quoted for Collins the well known and respected motto “who dares wins”.

We all accept there is a small percentage of dinosaur NZ that think Collins is the second coming. ….the second coming and worse of Rob Muldoon. Think big regardless of how devastating the outcome will be, create a divisive landscape, sell and gift NZ to China and then bully anyone who has the audacity to disagree with you….all while smiling like butter wouldn’t melt. One thing for certain, NZ can not expect their gutless and bias media to hold Collins accountable for her outrageous history and diabollical narrative. She’s been gifted a rubbish skip full of get out of media jail free cards to be used every day. It staggers me that a a very appropriate print of Ardern with the word AROHA on it was torn down around NZ because it was ruled “politicking” ….yet a never-ending number of these PR pieces are running all day every day for Collins masquerading as news on news websites ….but that apperently is not “politicking” The same “news” website has a banner up asking for donations to keep trusted journalism going.

Diehard National supporters have spent a frustrating 3 years having inept National Party leaders that have been brutally exposed. Leaders they couldn’t worship. I strongly suspect they intended not to vote in the upcoming September election. Collins could announce the most diabolical and damaging policies and those diehard supporters would still see her as their savior. They, thankfully are in no way a reflection of the forward thinking New Zealand that has evolved and knows exactly how damaging dirty politics built on divisive backward thinking arrogance is. Collins is the figurehead for dirty politics and devastating outcomes hidden from view. If you want to see the group most excited about Collins, don’t interview her family, locals and diehard National Party supporters, go interview the Chinese, their busineses here and in China, and most importantly, the Chinese Government. Anyone who thinks the CCP will not be working feverishly to interfere in our election process is extremely naive. She is their dream come true especially at this time. I hope NZ wakes up in time but don’t expect our media to do anything other than assist Collins with her not so well hidden from view….treason.

  13. You all realise this policy wasn’t targeted at TDB’s readership don’t you? This will go down like fish n chips on Friday night to the majority of Aucklanders who have to commute on our motorways each day.

Interesting trivia – name one major election promise (>$1B) that has been completed and within 10% of its election budget from any political party.

I do sense an air of panic this weekend via the MSM…..

  14. The ‘wheels’ are about to fall off the US-dominated global financial system. It might last till Christmas, but I doubt it. Much more likely, it will be all over by Christmas. It could even be all over by September.

‘If this chart doesn’t make you think the crash is coming soon, then probably nothing will’

‘The attempts by the government to pump up the economy with new money is resulting in it going straight into equities and straight into the tip of the equity spear, the giant high beta story stocks. This is a malfunction of the QE mechanism that supports asset prices and slowly trickles the benefits of this support down the pyramid of wealth. Now the game is up because the new money is going straight into this bubble of financial assets that are spiralling up out of control.

If we now get a Nasdaq bull vertical that is the end of the chapter of the process, it will be followed by a devastating crash as everyone dashes to the exit in a blaze of wealth destruction.’
