You could say that “One could argue that’s what happen when settlers renamed towns, glorified certain people and changed the narrative to hide the violence of colonisation” But that would be taking a slanted view of how things happened in the past. Yes there were wrong things done but to automatically assume that all that the settlers did was wrong is a step too far. It is obviously time to have an honest far reaching discussion & remedial actions on history but it needs to be a 2 (or more) sided discussion.
