While the world ‘s attention is on the pandemic, Bernie Sanders has dropped out of the race for the Democratic Primary as their candidate for President…

Bernie Sanders drops out of US presidential race, Joe Biden likely Democratic nominee

US senator Bernie Sanders has ended his presidential bid, clearing the way for former vice president Joe Biden to stand as the Democratic nominee against President Donald Trump in the November election.

Sanders initially exceeded sky-high expectations about his ability to recreate the magic of his 2016 presidential bid, and even overcame a heart attack last October. But he found himself unable to convert unwavering support from progressives into a viable path to the nomination, with “electability” fears fueled by questions about whether his democratic socialist ideology would be palatable to general election voters.

“The path toward victory is virtually impossible,” Sanders told supporters Wednesday. “If I believed we had a feasible path to the nomination I would certainly continue the campaign, but it’s just not there.”

…the great progressive dream is over.

I think after 4 years of the never ending nightmare toxicity that is Trump, numbed Democrats begged not for the revolution of Sanders but for the emotional support Labrador of Biden.

This wasn’t a Democratic primary, it was a cry for help!

The hopes of the working class in America untainted by fear, anger and pain was worth fighting for and Bernie was an incredible champion for those values.

I still believe the only way of winning over the working class vote Trump hijacked with his negative populism of walls, exclusion and selfishness is the free education, free health positive populism of Sanders.

The advert that made me sit up and notice Bernie was his 2016 election campaign ‘America’ and it still catches me emotionally in the throat…

…watching Biden squander this promise is almost as painful as Trump winning another term.

Can Bumbling Biden beat Trump? My heart begs yes, my brain cries no.

Surely the monstrous incompetence of Trump’s response to the horror of the pandemic will turn Americans against this toxic narcissistic fool?

Surely?

I fear Democrats have nominated a hug as their candidate when only a punch will beat Trump.

  1. Well I’m firm on the never Biden camp. Bidens got dementia. I’d rather have Trump, Hilary, Pete, Goerge bush over some one who can’t even speak.

No Tulsi Gabbard is 38, she’s made of the correct stuff. She’s got all the intersectional points. I don’t think for one second Sanders did any of us dirty. If it wasn’t for him we wouldn’t have Tulsi. Tulsi will get her turn. She’s just the default option that ticks all the boxes.

  2. Of course he can’t win. The guy transparently has dementia and is going downhill fast. The Democrats are completely insane. A country with 328 million people and they put forward Hilary and Joe Biden. WTF is going on with them?

      • My mum was taken by dementia. After it was all over I listened to a video-tape of her 15 years prior to her death. In full control of her faculties, she was a different person entirely, and that is as I want to remember her.
I heard a tape of Trump speaking back in his 30’s… totally coherent, complex sentences.. nothing like his modern simplistic, nonsensical ravings.

I think you have left an important candidate off your Dementia list, Sam and Orangemanbad.

        • No, I think you miss understand me. I would rather live on the moon with a third less gravity than have a front row seat in apocalypse now.

Fucken, The Daily Blogs regular communist, Mr David Brown would be a million miles better candidate than Trump or Biden but Yknow Trump and Biden is who we’ve got to work with, and work with them we will.

  3. Most of the states that have held their primaries, and all the critical states that turned the tide have open primaries. That means that republican supporters can role up and vote in the Democrat primary and vote obviously for the candidate they expect to be the weakest in the presidential election. Some Republican based commentators esp on the pivotal South Carolina primary were gloating about the record turnout of republicans the voted for Biden.
Whatever Trump does he can’t loose this election now however much he might wish to. No crass stupidity or atrocity will persuade America to vote in Joe Biden as their president. The Democrat elite understand that completely. They judge it better to have trump for another term than Bernie Sanders.

It seems unlikely. I’ve seen Twitter traffic suggesting that many Americans recognise that Biden’s emerging dementia renders him unelectable. But then…..I remember Reagan’s election to a second term, when it was abundantly clear that he was losing his marbles.

“The Democrat elite understand that completely. They judge it better to have trump for another term than Bernie Sanders.”

Given what happened with Reagan, they are taking a bit of a risk.Though in fairness, Reagan was already President. In the current environment, Sanders is also unelectable, though obviously for different reasons: the Democratic establishment cannot support his policies, so he wouldn’t get the nod at the Convention.

However. A member of this household harbours hopes that Biden will be elected, because in their view, the Americans deserve him. Heh!

It is only US foreign policy which affects us here; but even on that score, we surely have done nothing to deserve him.

  4. Biden will get shredded by Trump if it ends up Biden vs Trump.
However with a contested convention on the cards, the Democrats could select Fauxcahontas instead. Trump would beat her too.

  5. Have been following this as closely as is possible from NZ, being a Bernie supporter. If anybody thinks that dementia joe and his perks for the boy is going to beat trump, they are as deluded as Biden.

  6. Can someone in the US tell everybody to not mention the election to Biden. Then he’ll probably forget about it! Then Governor Cuomo could be sub’d in as the Dem’s pinch hitter!

  7. On the Joe Rogan podcast a significant number of Sanders supporters said that they would vote Trump. Biden will lose, which will be amazing, considering how badly Trump is handling his countries future at the moment.

  8. “Instead of the triumph of democracy and progress, we got violence, poverty and social disaster — and nobody cares a bit about human rights, including the right to life. I cannot help asking those who have forced that situation: Do you realize what you have done?” — Vladimir Putin addressing the United Nations in September 2015.

I think he was talking about life in Russia following the fall of the Berlin wall
Oh Yeah who was American president in 2015 Obama and guess who ws his VP

  9. Ike: “I think he was talking about life in Russia following the fall of the Berlin wall”

I remember that speech. He made it at a time of chaos in both the ME and the Ukraine, following US-sponsored regime changes. And in the case of the Ukraine, a violent putsch, also US-sponsored. Though he’d have been justified in referring to the godawful mess that was Russia on the watch of that old lush Yeltsin, when the neolibs and the oligarchs – ghastly types that they were – attempted to asset-strip the Russian people.

“Oh Yeah who was American president in 2015 Obama and guess who ws his VP”

Exactly. Many of us haven’t forgotten. Remember all that stuff about Biden and his son, and their involvement in the Ukraine? Yup: so do we. Hence my family member’s hope that Biden does get elected.

But on the bright side….thank god none of us will ever again have to endure a US led by that odious little creep Obama.

Analysing the campaign now its over a number of lessons are being debated as too where Bernie could have made more of an impact.

Amongst things like not campaigning harder in the south where the majority of poor African American voters still live and reaching out too older Americans to widen his base were critical but the main criticism is that he would not go hard against Biden who has always voted against any policies that would directly help struggling Americans.

Instead he kept complimenting Biden as being a decent guy when his background and track record say otherwise in fact Biden has helped too maintain the corporate jack boot on the necks of so many of the people Bernie talks about needing help.

When you go into a fight and your enemy is armed you will need more than just harsh language too take him on.

2016 against Hillary Bernie would not go for the jugular.

Also you cannot underestimate the Republican voters who supported Biden over Bernie in some swing states after South Carolina.

Trump will destroy Biden in the debates and highlight his support for Du pont and other corporate backers.

The only way they could have really taken the Donald on was for Biden too nominate Bernie as his running mate and represent a change ticket that brings both sides of the Democratic party together and their support bases too defeat Trump after the convention.

Pie in the sky though as Biden is on record saying he will appoint a woman as his running mate.

    • The media pushed a scare campaign against Bernie at ever step of the way.
The Media controls the public minds and it is not to be underestimated
They have massaged the pubic minds for many decades

I’m with Bomber on this. I have stated publicly on the fediverse (see fediverse.party ) that if Biden wins, I will eat my hat, and post a video of it on PeerTube. I’m quite fond of my hat and I’m pretty confident that it’s safe. I have to admit it will be amusing to watch the two dementia patients debate each, but I’m gobsmacked that the Dems didn’t learn from their mistake in 2016.
