Auckland Mayoralty Update: Early voting continues to plunge off a cliff

The weaponised apathy from disgruntled gridlocked Aucklanders looks set to continue.

4 days in & heres what Auckland Mayoralty returns look like compared with last 3 elections:

2010 – 13.1%
2013 – 7.6%
2016 – 9.27%
2019 – 6.04%

The limited post service must be playing a role here but even with that taken into account, the rate is incredibly low and suggests this election could go down to the wire.

The old, white & rich of Auckland ALWAYS vote which gives the right wing an inbuilt advantage, this level of apathy could produce a political upset in the Auckland Mayoralty.

Either way, at this rate the victory will be one carved out by maybe as little as 30% of eligible voters.

  1. I sent a change of address in for 5 of us who live together as I feel very strongly about voting today I found out that they had never been processed and everything had gone to our old address when we didnt get our voting papers I rang today. I had to ring the electrolyte office then the council the later had quite a long wait. How many are going to bother? Now I have to wait for forms how long that will take is a guess. I’m going away for 10 days so my only option when I get back is to take them to a local e au kland country were pretty vague when i asked perhaps the library. I have given my flatmates a note about procedure but I doubt they will bother. A comete shambles
