  1. More pollution, zero taxes as cruise ships are exempt from the tourist tax and creates massive amounts of air and sea pollution.

    from 2015

“Three cruise ships docked in Auckland today have been given “failed” grades for their air-pollution standards by an international environment group.

Data on the Voyager of the Seas, Seven Seas Mariner and Seabourn Odyssey are included in the latest Friends of the Earth’s (FOE) Cruise Ship Report Card that ranks 16 major cruise lines and 167 cruise ships.

The three today are far from the lowest grade sailing into Auckland.

Three other ships are rated failures for their air pollution and their sewerage systems, which amount to little more than pumping sewage straight into the ocean.

FOE produces its ratings on four environmental criteria – sewage treatment, air-pollution reduction, water-quality compliance and transparency.

It says most people taking cruises do not realise that cruising is more harmful to the environment and human health than many other forms of travel. ”

2019, NZ has increased one of the most polluting ways to travel aka cruise ships while exempting them from the environmental tax and stealing Auckland Harbour and polluting the area around the wharf.

A lot of people are not aware that untreated sewage is allowed to be flushed directly into the ocean just 5.5Km out to sea so for every cruise ship operating hundreds of thousands of raw sewerage and other harmful substances are directly discharges into the sea .

“At sea, what goes in the toilet is flushed into the ocean, so long as the ship is at least three nautical miles (5.5 kilometres) from shore.

“This sewage contains pollutants, including faecal matter, bacteria, viruses, pathogens, nutrients, hazardous waste and pharmaceuticals, all of which can be harmful to human health and aquatic life.”

The EPA said a 3000-person cruise ship generated 568,000 litres of sewage a week.

    • No wonder there are so many endangered species dying out, with mystery viruses and so forth, with so much allowable pollution into the sea and nuclear accidents like Fukashima! Any still alive seem to be allowed to be overfished to extinction and rampant pirate and organised overfishing allowed.

ARE THE MYSTERIOUS MASS DIE-OFFS IN THE PACIFIC OCEAN GOING STOP, OR ARE ALL THE SEA CREATURES JUST GOING TO EVENTUALLY GO EXTINCT?

Here is an abbreviated list of creatures who have experienced mass die-off events since 2011-

      1) SEA STARS 2) BLUEFIN TUNA 3) SARDINE, ANCHOVY, HERRING
      4) SEA LIONS 5) MARINE BIRDS 6) RED KING CRAB 7) PELICANS

      12) ANCHOVIES (AGAIN) 13) WHALES 14) TUNA AND ALBACORE

  2. We’re now in non linear climate change i.e. exponential. We’re in Michael Mann’s vertical section of the hockey stick. So far NZ is not badly affected by CC ( Climate Change) but the northern hemisphere is. So, what’s the current situation and what is our outlook?
