Trump was going to launch a strike against Iran? What madness is this?

1. The government is pulling the training team out of Iraq soon. Iran although New Zealand sends billions worth of trade through the straits of Hormuz we don’t really have any assets in that area or reason to threaten Iran with our own military. We have our own Pacifc Reset to worry about. If America wishes to discuss this they should put it on the APEC agenda, Y’know way down the list of things Pacidic nations care about in the Middle East or take it up with the UN.

2. I don’t get why you think he might not retaliate.
   The US has indicated they want a war with Iran for months.
   And people will go, oh no, Russia will retaliate.
   Come on, they both have an agreement to use up old weapons stocks in a proxy stoush.
   And then they can use the retaliation by Iran and ever more “terrorist attacks” as an excuse to impose even more government control.
   It’s neo liberal economics, not war.

3. Just follow is Twitter tweets, the man is unpredictable, one day he will send the bombers raining bombs over Iran.

4. No matter how you look at it, Iran will not simply give in and let the hated US imperialists tell it what to do and what not to do.

   The Revolutionary Guards and particularly their leaders have a lot of power and influence, and they are mobilising.

   Trump and his hawks are trying to choke the regime, forcing regime change, that means the ones like the Revolutionary Guards feel their existence and survival is threatened.

   The oil and other boycotts are going to push the hard lines against the wall, they will fight back, and any small spark will set off a wider conflict that will make the invasion of Iraq and the war in Syria look like a child throwing a tantrum in the sandpit, throwing toys around.

   A conflict engulfing Eastern Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Bahrain, Lebanon, Syria and Yemen, possibly other countries, that is what could be the fire that will spread once it is all on.

5. Wholeheartedly agree that under Trump, Bolton & Pompeo, US foreign policy is the enemy of NZ and all democratic countries including the US foremost. But it was superfluous to say that “Iran is not our enemy”. NZ does tend to tack itself onto allies in a “me too” token, having taken a century of self-administration (till 1948) to form its own Foreign Affairs Dept, and never having had an independent military policy to my knowledge. Literally, nothing and no one is NZ’s enemy or even raises hackles locally (apart from the old Palestinian cause celebre). I’m convinced that if foreign agents entered NZ to pull another “Rainbow Warrior” attack, we would sue for peace and settle for another “fine” all over again.

6. America got what they voted for i.e a lunatic as their Dearest Leader.

7. And, as it usually does, the NZ Govt will go all biblical and say to the USA, “Whither goest tho, I goest too, ” and continue signalling to fundamentalist Islam, “Ecce, we too, offer our people up as one of your targets.”

8. A new rule, Any politician advocating war will send at least one of there children to actually fight on the front line.

12. Thanks Martin, good read and the cartoon is spot on. I know! I live here. After seven years Im so desperate I have returned to reading your blogs. The Intercept had a very interesting article this week that was a real eye opener. I thought there was some hope with all the Democrats coming forward to stand for President but this article has changed my view. They are all rotten to the core. 13. Trump cannot be used by the elitists and the industrialist milartary complex to begin another world war to profit from.

    Trump does want peace and US security as we in NZ want the same, so dont be fooled by the rubbish media who are used by the corpporate warmongers to try and use trump as the fall guy doing their next globalist profering war.

14. Just because Trump is a fuckwit, doesn’t mean Iran is innocent.
    Iran leaders are evil scum.
    And let’s be clear, Obama and Clinton (Hilary) were both bigger war lords than Trump.
    So yes, US foreign policy is pretty fucking ordinary, but don’t lay the blame at Trump’s feet – certainly not solely. In fact he has been the least bullish on war since Carter IMO.
