Sean Plunket’s Working Group with Bomber Bradbury & Damien Grant: This week – International Women’s Day, The third non-binary gender, Should Cullen get paid to promote the government’s CGT agenda?

  1. As mentioned by others, and myself, previously…. Cullen being paid a grand a day to ‘explain’ the TWG report is a joke, can you honestly say that no Labour MP or one of the party analysts/policy advisors (of which there are many) cannot take a day or two sitting with the report and Cullen if needs be and then be the font of knowledge for the report for the ministers and/or PM.
Seems to me, and the general public, $30k a month for the next 4-5months just to explain a report that has already cost millions to create just looks bad on Robertson (finance minister) and Arden (PM scared of any questions regarding CGT from opposition and easy to just stand behind Cullen and dodge the questions)

    • How do you compare Cullen “being paid a grand a day” with National paying former PM, Jenny Shipley, $1,400 a day a couple of years ago?

Former Prime Minister Jenny Shipley’s appointment to a role worth $28,000 for about 20 days work a year is completely above board, the government says.

      […]

Normally a person in a similar role could expec to be paid a maximum of $1062 per day, but Ms Barry said the exceptional fee was justified.

“It’s slightly different because there’s quite a bit of travel involved in this – the chair of that independent group will have to go to Marlborough, Coromandel, Northland, Gisborne.

“So rather than getting all of them to come to her, the chair will go around and gather material and meet the councils.”

ACT leader David Seymour said in his experience people who took on these roles ended up working a lot harder than the government initially anticipated.

“Look, I don’t think that’s a surprising rate for a competent consultant to do a big job like this, but I’m a little bit surprised Jenny Shipley wasn’t prepared to do this for a more generous rate – it’s a huge honour that she’s been given.”

Did you criticise that at the time, Im right? Because even the ACT Party seemed ok with it.

      • Whataboutism Frank!…you give me 20days at a grand a day, I counter with 120days at a grand a day after already being paid a fortune to create and deliver a report, your move!
Seems most of MSM, and public agree with me on Cullen being kept as a Labour spokesman (Labour not willing to debate CGT)

        • “Whataboutism”?

Or just plain hypocrisy on National’s part?

The next time Labour complains about National paying thousands of dollars to another former National minister or leader, the same charge can be made.

  2. Cullen was tasked with leading a TWG Frank, which took approx 14mths to complete, he has been paid hundreds of thousands for this job, which was completed when report was delivered to Govt. NOW he gets an extra 4mths paid as a Labour MP effectively…. No matter how you slice it Frank, are you telling me Labour have no MP’s or policy analysts that can read and understand the report and as such brief the minister(s), or is it just easier to pay him an extra hundred odd grand to answer the questions instead of the PM/Min of Finance…. Are they too thick to understand it Frank? I hope National hire the 2 or 3 on the team that were against the report (CGT portion) and let the truth out the bag that Cullen was instructed by Robertson/Arden to ‘make it work’, will be Labours downfall next year’s election, hope Labour run with it!!
