TPPA-11 Don’t Do It! Petition

Despite the government saying that they would refuse to support ratification of the TPPA and demanding independent economic and health analyses, and promising a new inclusive approach to trade and investment agreements, the new ‘progressive’ TPPA-11 is the same as before, with a small number of provisions suspended for now.

And yet the Government says it intends to sign the TPPA-11 in Chile on 8 March 2018.

The agreed text is still secret and we can’t see it until it is signed.

The threats to our regulatory sovereignty remain the same as with the original TPPA.

So we are inviting you to sign our newly launched petition to Parliament.

In summary, the petition calls on the Government not to sign the new Agreement,
to suspend negotiations for all similar deals, not to embark on new negotiations until they have developed the inclusive and progressive approach that they promised towards deals, and engage fully with Maori on protecting Te Tiriti.

It also calls on the Parliament to pass new laws that exclude the rights of foreign investors to sue the government (ISDS), and to require independent impacts assessments on the
economy, health, human rights, the environment and climate action, and a review by the Waitangi Tribunal, prior to signing any future agreement.

Please sign the petition

We request the House of Representatives to urge the Government to reject the revised Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement, now known as the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement on Trans-Pacific Partnership, and that the House revise the Standing Orders of the Parliament to ensure the process for negotiating and signing trade and investment agreements is more democratic, independently informed, and regularly feeds information back to the Parliament and the people.

Share the petition and encourage your family and friends to sign. Send a strong message to the government letting them know that we will not support any future deals that truly are not progressive for our country – it’s our future!

  1. How can you ask people to march/sign against the treaty when you yourself say:

‘The agreed text is still secret and we can’t see it until it is signed’

‘The threats to our regulatory sovereignty remain the same as with the original TPPA’

You are only surmising here, and lets face it you are against ANY trade deal. (can you name any trade agreement, anywhere on the planet, you agree with?)
Even if Labour did take out all the ‘nasty bits’ you highlight and protest about and it is actually a good deal for NZ economically you would STILL be against it. This has nothing to do with what’s in the TPPA 11, it’s just you hate all treaties and as such are biased no matter what the content…correct professor?

That is precisely why the petition should be signed, Imright.

Or are you in a habit of signing contracts that you haven’t read?

        care to agree/disagree Frank?

    • IM RIGHT are tyou stupid?

Here you say relax and accept something you have’nt seen before you sign it?

Well I hope you don’t sign away your ‘will’ before you read that, or your insurance policy’s or bank loans before you do a complete analysis of the impacts to your own families life and limb.

The first rule of sanity is to know what is ahead of your life and with this twisted demented so called “free trade” agreement even now we are not “free to read it in full before we sign it!!!!!

So you can actually see this agreement is patently a lie and not “free” at all but another global corporate rort.

Labour; – dont cut your/s and our throats and sign this criminal blackmailed TPPA-1 (or whatever it is called for now!!!

Don’t sell us and our country down the river..

  2. I signed because this “secret” agreement shouldn’t exist at all.
I believe large parts of New Zealand have already been given away (sold) as collateral for debt : https://www.nationaldebtclocks.org/debtclock/newzealand
It is my opinion and belief that regardless which party is in, top politicians are bought and paid for and are carefully guided and controlled by their “permanent” civil servant minders. A country which is part of the 5 eyes is not its own master.

  3. If ever there was a powerful reason why we should not sign up to this cruddy deal it is this.

As a country we cannot enforce a charge on those who are taking water out of the ground to sell overseas at a profit because it contravenes a free trade deal we signed some time ago.

Anything that takes away a countries right to legislate in its own interests and that of its citizens is paramount to subversion.

Of course Labour was going to support free trade and anyone thinking otherwise is an idiot.

It is the Key effect except the messenger is more attractive.

If only the Greens had more influence but Shaw will take the hit on the chin and stay silent.

    • Actually, it appears Shaw hasn’t quite “taken it on the chin”;

Green Party co-leader James Shaw said his party remained opposed to CPTPP.

”I’ve said this since the deal was renegotiated last year – there is the continued existence of the ISDS mechanism for some countries, and that allows large multinational companies to what we call ‘jurisdiction shop,'” Shaw said.

      ref: https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/politics/101631527/CPTPP-gains-downgraded-after-US-withdrawal

I guess Shaw could “pull the pin” on this Coalition government, but that would spark an early election and the likely defeat of this government. A National-led government would sign the TPPA as well.

The real damage would be to the Greens, as voters tend to punish small parties that end up provoking early elections. Even if it’s on a moral high-ground.

  4. Petition, Jane? Really?

I seem to remember standing there with you in Federal Street when you brought a massive petition against the TPP and they kicked you out without allowing you to present it. Did I dream that?

Of course i didn’t dream that. Then why are you calling for yet another petition? What was wrong with the petition we signed before?

Why aren’t you calling for mass protests?

    Make the call please.

  5. Do not let our government sign this…it’s designed for Multinational companies…beware of wolves in sheep’s clothing…8

  6. Yes Helena
    You are very right !

New Zealand gave itself away to foreign owners years ago. Nobody stopped that rot. Why? because NZ became excessively capitalist.

It accelerated the rotten process under Mr Key and the strange twisted Billy English.

Further, The Green Party is not a life saver in my opinion. It is a group totally, weirdly focused on allowing everyone to smoke / chew / and bake Weed – to bolster our national craving for every sought after zombie juice and drug.
