The Māori Climate Commissioner, Donna Awatere Huata, congratulates Stuff.co.nz for their incredible climate change coverage over the last week.

“The science that human pollution is causing the planet to dramatically warm is irrefutable, increasingly it is the muddied waters of the media that are confusing voters and citizens alike. To see Fairfax media take such a prolonged editorial stance highlighting the level of crisis we face while giving readers positive information for change shows real editorial courage and leadership”.

“If we had this level of sustained reporting with such excellent journalism, we would be halfway towards informing the electorate of the challenge in front of us. This courageous editorial prerogative is what we desperately require in the climate change debate. I congratulate Stuff and Fairfax.”

Māori Climate Commissioner

URGENT PRESS RELEASE; – ACTION NEEDED HERE BY – Transport Minister Twyford.

    3rd December 2018.

Dear Ministers, Local civic authorities & rail stakeholders,

Subject; Are any NZ representations at the “ United Nations-sponsored climate 14 day talks in Katowice, Poland asks CEAC?

    https://www.bbc.com/news/science-environment-46398057

We at CEAC have written to you all multiple times since becoming our new Government about using a ‘clean emissions transport service’ such as rail again since becoming Government.

The world’s most authoritative naturalist Sir David Attenborough has said at the opening of the conference; – “climate change is humanity’s greatest threat in thousands of years.”
The broadcaster said it could lead to the collapse of civilisations and the extinction of “much of the natural world”.
He was speaking at the opening ceremony of United Nations-sponsored climate 14 day talks in Katowice, Poland.

The meeting is the most critical on climate change since the 2015 Paris agreement.

Sir David said: “Right now, we are facing a man-made disaster of global scale.
Our greatest threat in thousands of years. Climate change.

“If we don’t take action, the collapse of our civilisations and the extinction of much of the natural world is on the horizon.”

The naturalist is taking up the “People’s Seat” at the conference, called COP24. He is supposed to act as a link between the public and policy-makers at the meeting.

“The world’s people have spoken. Their message is clear. Time is running out. They want you, the decision-makers, to act now,” he said.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Antonio Guterres, UN Secretary-General, said climate change was already “a matter of life and death” for many countries.
He explained that the world is “nowhere near where it needs to be” on the transition to a low-carbon economy.
But the UN Secretary-General said the conference was an effort to “right the ship” and he would convene a climate summit next year to discuss next steps.
Meanwhile, the World Bank has announced $200bn in funding over five years to support countries taking action against climate change.”
    End.

We have written to you all multiple times since becoming our new Government about using a ‘clean emissions transport service’ such as rail again since becoming Government.

We also have been requesting you to honour your promises made to our communities both in the “Gisborne Herald, and the HB Today press”.

This has been spoken on several occasions by your MP’s to state your commitment to restore our railway to Gisborne that was damaged after a storm in March 2012; – and caused by a lack of rail funding maintenance in 2011 on after funding was cut by Minister of transport Steven Joyce; – http://www.scoop.co.nz/stories/PA1302/S00183/kiwirail-admits-lack-of-maintenance-led-to-wash-out.htm

Now we have alerted you to the new “Climate Change Conference now taking place beginning yesterday 2nd December for 14 days, we ask; – are there any NZ representations there please?

“The naturalist Sir David Attenborough has said climate change is humanity’s greatest threat in thousands of years.
The broadcaster said it could lead to the collapse of civilisations and the extinction of “much of the natural world”.

He was speaking at the opening ceremony of United Nations-sponsored climate 14 day talks in Katowice, Poland.

The press statement on BBC said this meeting is the most critical on climate change since the 2015 Paris agreement.”

    CEAC policy
Rail is a good start to your governments commitment to lower your Transport emissions.

Rail would also lower the needless deaths on our single lane wining regional roads in the last week, one in Gisborne and one in Waikato involving trucks both resulting in tragic deaths shows the same conclusion that these 20th century roads were never designed for increasing levels of high speed oversize/overweight trucks gridlocking the roads with other private users.

Rail services restoration will make a dramatic reduction of ‘road based freight’ now ruining our residential areas and the health & safety of our urban communities.
