The truth is it’s a watered down toothless nothing that will do sweet fuck all in giving Unions real muscle, but the right in NZ scream it’s 1970s Polish shipyards the way Fox News screamed Obamacare was Socialism.
Labour spinelessly argue that it’s merely rewinding labour laws back to 2009, you know those halcyon days of Union power.
We know that Unions are one of the few genuine mechanisms to increase real wages, we know that one of the biggest reasons why wages are so far behind Australia’s is because of National’s cruel destruction of worker rights with the 1993 Employment Contracts Act and we know that there is a segment of NZ Business that sees any attempt to deconstruct some of that barbarity is akin to Communism.
In all the noise over the current fiasco, people have forgotten that what Labour are proposing is so mild as to be laughable. The only people who can seriously claim this will hurt business pay their staff a pittance and probably shouldn’t be in business.
That this extremely weak piece of legislation is being slowed down says more about how truly dysfunctional the political Left are, it’s no reflection of how strong the recommendations are.
Everyone wants to have power to control their policies but we need to get a buy-in from all parties to make a common agreement that will endure.
Labour said from the election that they will be a Government that will deliver a warm, gentle, considerate, inclusive, policy that will give anyone a voice to be heard and considered so we need to complete all our issues with things in mind now, if we are to achieve solid “meaningful changes.” that satisfy’s all parties.
I just wonder if this has anything to do with business confidence…
