What a devastating exclusive from Radio NZ…

Exclusive: Text plea to call off Bridges expense leak inquiry
It’s a major development in the saga over who leaked Mr Bridges’ expenses and raises huge questions about the stability of his leadership and disquiet among National MPs.

Sources have told RNZ Mr Bridges and the Speaker Trevor Mallard both received an anonymous text message last week from a person claiming to be responsible for leaking the information to Newshub.

The author of the text warned they suffered from mental health problems in the past and said being exposed publicly could push them over the edge and put their life at risk.

…well, well, well.

How do we know the leaker is a National Party MP?

The text, which RNZ has not seen, detailed a number of conversations and pieces of information from National caucus meetings over a period of weeks in an attempt to prove the author was a National MP.

So the leak came from inside National and now the person who leaked it is desperate to shut down the inquiry before they are outed and are suggesting that if they are outed they will commit self harm???

This is a ticking time bomb now and the National Party MP either steps down themselves to end this or Bridges pushes ahead, outs the MP himself and then risks that MP hurting themselves.

What a meltdown.

Then again, a Machiavellian person  desperately wanting to stop this investigation and needing to throw the whole thing off would make this kind of claim wouldn’t they?

This makes Australia’s current political self-mutilation look mild in comparison.

UPDATE: It is NOT an MP

    • Brownlee has now weighed in and is scathing of Mallard withdrawing the enquiry. Can Brownlee please do something useful for his salary…say…resign! Brownlee has to be one of the most useless ministers i have witness in my 58 years studying N.Z.politics. Rather than blaming, how about doing some work and find who the leaker is yourself Gerry.

  1. 10 Bridges had his chance to raise the bar on Climate Change and the little Malcom Turnbull blew it. The rest is just a side hoe. Send me another opposition leader because we broke the last one.

  2. Then again, a Machiavellian person desperately wanting to stop this investigation and needing to throw the whole thing off would make this kind of claim wouldn’t they?

Clever. Exploiting mental health and threatening “self harm” to close down an investigation. The Leaker has studied Machiavelli and passed with top grades.

Now who do we know who is so practiced in the dark arts of manipulation, mis-information, and machiavellian politics? Who has a record of releasing details for political gain?

I wonder if Judith Collins could shed light on who the Leaker might be?

    • A real Maxhiavelli, atleast in my opinion, would have the leaker arrested and put in a padded cell.

      Too much ruthlessness?

    • This is a Collins/Slater hit-job. The only one with mental health problems is Cameron Slater. He has advised Collins to use mental health as a distraction and get-out-of-jail-free card.

I’d put $1000 on it. (TAB?)

      • every one always forgets about old under the radar Scott Simpson, you say “who” well thats the point he is a political hitman and friend of Slater, and has been slowly moving his way out of obscurity! but apparently the up date says not an MP?

  3. AND.THIS.WAS.THE.GOVT.WHO.STOMPED.ON.THE.POOR.

This is the rabble who did this. And this is the despicable level they will stoop to.

Hollow men , and hollow women.

National must be kept out of power at all costs.

  4. Here’s a trick I learned after the Canterbury earthquakes and almost dying.
Say you have asthma to the power cartels and they can’t disconnect you from your grid.
So, someone’s saying that if an inquiry now goes ahead they’ll top themselves? All we need to have happen now is if the whole National party line up are implicated. I can supply the booze if someone else can get a 200 kg sack of fentanyl.

  5. “It’s a major development in the saga over who leaked Mr Bridges’ expenses and raises huge questions about the stability of his leadership and disquiet among National MPs.”

Far be it for me to offer National an explainer, but if the leaker is claiming they did it because of their own issues with mental illness, surely it raises a question about their stability rather than his?

  6. A Judith-Whale Blob team effort, pet chance. I thought Nick Smith for a mo but he’s just plain looney tunes.

    • Could be Paula “Benefit.” Not my words, Simon said it. We should know more in a few minutes at 9:30am. Any way any threatening The Speaker of the house ought to trigger a committal just as the plan says. MPs are held to higher standards so I’d imagine there’s a few bureaucrats will be running around behind the scenes. National MPs might one day be there bosses. So, stay frosty.

  7. Blackmail/intimidation/threats from somewhere within Natz? Not a particularly healthy game to play.

The beginning of a new style of political vengeance emerging?

Whatever the outcome, the situation definitely will not look good for Natz!

  8. A National MP is suffering the effects of long term mental illness and no one picked it up until now. Amazing. Pretty clear metaphor for the direction the National Party is in right now. That mental illness is normal if the delusions are directed at Labour. What a shocker.

  9. Simon Bridges is still trying to stick to his “It may not have been a National Party member” mantra in his live press conference. Really Simon? Then who leaked the text message story?

  10. Even the most staunch National Party members will now have serious doubts on Simon Bridges’ worthiness to be the next PM.
Bridges has been made to look like an impotent clown, and it is his own party that is responsible!
Boy, can you imagine the atmosphere at the next National Party caucus meeting!
They will need security guards to keep order.

  11. 1. Mr Bridges goes on a country wide tour. …..much money spent (our money)
    2. Someone leaks the information a few days before it becomes public anyway.
    3. A QC, at perhaps $300 per hour is employed to find out who. ….much money spent (our money).
    4. The purported leaker sends a text. The police have to investigate instead of catching real crims… much money spent (our money).
    5. The leaker is outed and all is resolved . Thank goodness our money has been well spent.

  12. It is not an MP?
    How do we know that?
Now Simon Bridges wants the investigation to end on a flimsy pretext about the mental health of the informant.
Surely this would be one of the lamest excuses ever!
If it had been someone other than in his party would he be concerned about that person’s mental health?
Was Simon Bridges concerned about the mental health of the National party thugs and paid trolls that harassed and threatened Nicky Hager?
    I don’t think so, Tim.
Simon thinks that dirty politics are normal activities when used by his cronies against his political opponents but when he is the target then he thinks the perpetrators have mental problems.
Elitist arrogance! These National Party pricks are so full of themselves!
Speaker Mallard promised a full investigation and to name the culprit if found. He should stick to this promise.

  13. Oh, so “not an MP”. Let me guess: History of mental illness. Doesn’t like Simon Bridges. Has a history of leaking defamatory/dirty politics information to journalists. Surely it’s not that easy to guess?

    • Can’t stand the guy but I doubt Slater would refer to himself as “a dirty little leaker”, refer -whaleoil blog, especially since the truth is likely to come out. If not a National MP then this was done at the behest of one, as only caucus members know the content of their meetings and would have those phone numbers. Simon Bridges is a terrible liar and knows perfectly well who did this because he’s already suspiciously defending the leaker’s actions.

  14. This has Judith Collins’ fingerprints all over it. Bennett wouldn’t dare. Newbie MPs wouldn’t know how.

The TAB should be taking bets.

  15. The National Party clowns aren’t protecting the leaker they’re protecting themselves due to ulterior motive namely _THEY_ are the leaker. See how that works

  16. Really children, getting into mountain out of molehill territory again, don’t be distracted from the real, existential issues of our times by the circus freaks in the beehive. The liberal establishment implosion side show is only worth a fleeting glance & a loud hurrah.

  17. I didn’t really give a shit about this story which let’s face it can be simmered down to expense account realised a couple of days early. Fucking boring.

Now however we have someone threatening Parliamentary process. Its not clever its treasonous.

Show some fucking leadership and have them outed, and throw in a compulsory treatment order.

  18. Bridges brought this clusterfuck upon himself by demanding an inquiry when one was not necessary.

The information was due to be made public in a few days.

    Every thing revealed was allowable.

Nothing to see, nothing to hide.

Methinks aTrumpian ego overtook rationality and sound judgement

Bridges should be an Australian politician, he is very well qualified for that position. Come to think of it the entire national party would be quite at home in the Oz parliament, they would flourish in all that toxicity.

  19. It will be Nick Smith.. still smarting about his bestie bill English having been rejected as leader, so has tried to embarrass bridges.. He has a pattern of using mental ill health to avoid consequences of his bad decisions. National is the best comedy in town, the characters and storylines are world class.

  22. Whoever it was, it has given the Dom-Post’s Tracy Watkins – who seems to me to be anti-Labour in the rabid way of all zealots – a deft little opportunity to stab Trevor Mallard, and to argue that parliament may now be unworkable ,while seemingly providing a few pointers to National on how to make it so.

The disgraceful thing about all this is that it was Bridge’s spend-up was a relatively minor issue right from the start, but in typical small Kiwi-minded fashion, idiot Bridges and the ambulance-chasing media blew it up out of proportion – while all around us, real bad things are happening, and will continue to happen, to good people.

    • fake news will destroy commercial media. And I’m not sure media moguls can fix it. There is such a bias and hunger for profits over integrity but it’s like shifting sand.

  23. Okay so now the Twats over at Nashnull are blaming Mallard. And so they should. SO open it up again Trev and let it rip. And stop protecting your cycling mate.
