The Road to Resource Management Reform Pre-conference Workshop
Tuesday 31 July 2018, 1:00pm-5:00pm

This workshop is available as a separately bookable event and you do not need to be attending the conference to register.

This workshop will examine three potential stages for resource management reform over the coming years. First, it will review changes proposed to the Resource Management Act likely to be enacted during 2018. These include the Government’s expressed intentions to roll back many of the amendments to the Act that were passed during 2017. We will critically assess the changes that are desirable and those that are not, with expert speakers and analysis.

Secondly, we will explore potential reform of the law relating to urban development including to promote quality intensification and strengthen spatial planning as well as the potential role of urban development authorities.

Thirdly, we will consider more fundamental questions raised through EDS’s Resource Management Law Reform Project. The project is taking a first-principles look at how the entire resource management system operates and how it could be improved for the coming decades. The project is slated to end in December. See http://www.eds.org.nz/our-work/rm-reform-project/.

The Resource Management workshop will be interactive, with opportunity for participants to make substantive input into all 3 parts.
