Speakers planning to attend the upcoming International Humanist and Ethical Union conference in early August should be given an assurance that their visa problems are not due to their political views, says the Free Speech Coalition.

Free Speech Coalition spokesperson Dr David Cumin says, “Immigration Minister Iain Lees-Galloway needs to confirm that the views and opinions of the speakers seeking to attend the conference haven’t in any way prejudiced their applications for visas, and that the problems are solely related to the normal thresholds applied under immigration law. The response of the Minister to Ms Southern’s application is exemplary and a similar approach should be taken to these speakers.”

“In general, Freedom of Speech mean that New Zealanders should be allowed to hear this group of speakers. No government official should be allowed to discriminate against any person on the grounds of political opinion.”

  1. These people should not be getting visas.

So if you believe in total free speech is it okay to make filthy comments about people on facebook.

This has driven some teenagers to suicide. Or are we going to make it ‘age appropriate.

    • It will probably be the standard: “COURTS AREN’T THE ANSWER! WE CAN’T GIVE ANY RIGHT WAYS TO REMOVE MOLYNEUX AND SOUTHERN, BUT STATE POWERS IS THE WRONG ONE!!!!”

I’ve heard that a lot, how Southern should be removed, but no one has a way to do that without resorting to appeals to authority. But why should they let a little thing like reality stand in their way?

I think for most anti-free speakers, it’s an issue of misguided principle.

Anti-free speak protestors will spend hours and days and months screaming about how evil free speech is, and that we should not be following the laws of the land. If the government listens (fat chance), they look brilliant. If the government ignores them, they can point to whatever the suicide count is at the end (regardless of how lopsided or light) and say, “see what we could have avoided if you’d just have listened to us?” and they will look justified in their own eyes.

On the other hand, if they were to oppose Molyneux and Southerns treatment of Canadians, to avoid looking like the hypocrites they are, they would be *forced* to advocate free speech… and we can’t have anti-free speech protestors supporting free speech… nosiree.

And so, they sit in their little ivory tower of their own delusions, and pay lip-service to opposing free speech, but only actually protest where they *know* it will have no impact on anything, so you and yours can feel good and warm and fuzzy about themselves.
