If only the NZDF had put as much effort in not committing war crimes as they do in taking down graffiti accusing them of committing war crimes

Wow, look at the incredible level of effort the NZDF went into removing graffiti that was accusing them of war crimes…

Council removes graffiti critical of Defence Force

The Wellington City Council removed graffiti critical of of the Defence Force’s actions in Afghanistan, after Defence asked it to.

…if only the NZDF had put as much effort in not committing war crimes as they do in taking down graffiti accusing them of committing war crimes!

This is a military who have smeared journalists, manipulated the truth, told outright falsehoods and have been caught red handed with allegations of war crimes.

That they have the time to chase graffiti is astounding and slightly creepy. When you look at the gutless interview Radio NZ gave Tim Keating last week, why would the NZDF fear graffiti?

  1. The flip side here is that apparently the graffiti artists are a group of idealistic young people genuinely concerned about what the NZDF did up in the Hindu Kush, and may they stay that way.

When I read Hit & Run the week it came out I had no trouble unconsciously transposing the action to any small rural South Island town, like Dipton, for instance, which may be why upon immediately rereading it, then going online and seeing that English was at an Adele concert in Auckland, I was shocked.

I know though that politicians often have aides to do their reading for them, and one had likely read it, and said, ” Nothing to see here.”

A Dom-Post correspondent criticised Nicky Hager for not addressing the NZ road toll instead of a bunch of foreigners, but the graffiti artists see that the Afghanis are people just like us, but much poorer, and with a tragic history, of which we are now part.

  2. The fact that we are part of the long standing 5 eyes agreement, … the fact that Key was so heavily involved with American foreign policy ( yet always at arms length with Obama , – the Tuesday sign off drone strike man / Hobbit Law lover / Kim dotcom hater and Hollywood Motion Picture Industry serf ) when Obama was in power …adds to the intrigue.

The NZDF , John Key , Operation Burnham , President Obama and war crimes are all intrinsically linked.

But the NZDF are out of step.

John Key has managed to slink off.

They are up shit creek without a paddle. And they know it. This is why Keating too , … is slinking off. But the ICC ( International Criminal Court) only needs a handful of complaints to press charges. Key and Keating both know this. All too well.

They are doing what any criminal will do – flee.

But even criminals have their supporters. So too did Charles Manson. And in Keatings case,… they have loyal colleagues from the NZDF,.. in Keys case,… inner core Nat ex Ministers and the corporate business community.

    Both are shielded.

Unless of course there is sufficient agitation to keep their crimes in the spotlight long enough for public outrage to grow.

    Hence graffiti.

    We need it.

    More of it.

Because crimes have been committed and justice is being denied. A three year old girl called Fatima was a victim of those crimes. Who is there but us to stand in her place and demand justice for the snuffing out of her wee life?

    Do we care?

    Did we ever care?

Was the sheer distance from NZ and just one more case of a child dying in war jaded us from our own culpability as a nation? , – if so , – how do we justify ourselves as caring parents and adults of our children?

Graffiti is the last thing we should be worrying about. Romans did it and we do it. What really marks us out in future peoples memory’s is what sort of a country we were. Did we value justice?… or were we just another archaic and brutal civilization like the Romans?

Have we shown we have advanced since the time of Rome ?

If not ,… then graffiti is the least of our concerns. But what is of concern ,… is our participation in war crimes conducted by our supposed ‘Defense Force’.

    In memory of Fatima.
