Andrew Little called the Sensible Sentencing Lynch Mob ‘loopy’ & ‘callous’ because they are ‘loopy’ and ‘callous’

Andrew Little being forced to confront the damage the Sensible Sentencing Trust has wrought upon NZs lynch mob mentality towards prisoners.

Little calls Sensible Sentencing leaders ‘loopy’ and ‘callous’ as key member quits

The influence of the Sensible Sentencing Trust appears to be waning with a key member leaving and Justice Minister Andrew Little labelling leading figures as “loopy” and “callous”.

Poor Andrew Little is having to get to grips with reforming our broken corrections industry and part of that means confronting the madness of the Sensible Sentencing Trust.

The SST are victim grief harvesters who have mutated law and order into the monster it is today, but it would be wrong to sheet all our spiteful counter productive prison policy on just them so let’s also blame corporate media as well, because that’s only fair – ZB, the NZ Herald, Newshub, TVNZ, Radio Live, Fairfax – they’ve all done their share of promoting crime porn for ratings.

Also add those politicians who manipulated the media created rage with get tough on crime rhetoric and once we remove their collective influence we can start using science and compassion to help recreate a prison system that heals those it comes into contact with rather than damages them further.

  1. Well he( Andrew Little) is right about some of them, how do I know I have met them. My sister and I attended 4 of their victims conferences for victims. But they are not all like that and some of the criminals that have viciously killed there loved ones shouldn’t get out so evil are they. But some of the SST are so bitter it is destroying them and they can’t see it. Garth looks like he needs to give it a break he has become bitter and twisted and he is not a victim. I know he genuinely cares and that is good but really for him to support Emery who ran 200 metres to stab that 15year old Maori boy who scribbled on his fence this is just way over the top and I’m very disappointed they have that loser Garrett as a lawyer he is a bit deranged that guy

    • Bruce Emery was a Prisoner of Conscience of the Clark regime.

      Emery defended his home and his family from violent gang members. His prosecution for that was political.

  2. these people are acting out their own punitive and coercive fantasies aided and abetted by a chidish uninformed media who will do anything for a headline. calling it crime porn really nails it. it is past time to put these trolls back in th ebox they escaped from.

  3. Bang on and the crime porn promoters are still in Labour aswell as they were the get hard on crime when aunty Helen and her Justice ministers were running those portfolio they were no different

  4. i actually have respect for what little is doing with reform…

    he can still make serious changes despite the 3 strikes thing..

    ..and he seems to be indicating that emptying them of those who shouldn’t be there is the way to solve our bursting at the seams prisons..

    and that all makes perfect sense..

      • Still awaiting the report on the sexual assaults at the Labour camp? It seems that Labour doesn’t take these issues very seriously.

        What happened to all the females MPs marching out of parliament.

        • Still awaiting the report on the sexual assaults at the Labour camp

          No you’re not, Bg. You’re exploiting those sexual assaults for your own political bias. You don’t care about sexual assaults per se, because you’ve never commented on these issues before. Not until it is framed against attacking a group (Labour) and individual (Little) that contradict your own political views.

      • He said the assault was “only a pinch on the bottom” when the corrections officer said she felt ” totally degraded, vulnerable and uneasy when performing her work duties.”

        I don’t know you, but that sounds like he was trivialising sexual assault.

        • Well, Bg, considering that you found nothing offensive about a 60 Minutes interview where Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern was asked some very creepy, sexualised questions by the interviewer – I think your faux outrage at Andrew Little’s comments can be seen in context. You dismissed the offensive questions from the 60 Minutes interviewer thusly;

          Finding people being offended on Twitter is like finding a joint at a Bob Marley concert.

          And then you lamented the lack of a certain sextoy being thrown at Ms Ardern’;

          Was is no one throwing dildos at Jacinda? What’s changed?

          Oh, and this crass piece of sexism from you;

          What’s also telling is that now people will possibly vote Labour now, just because they are fronted by a pretty face.

          And this is how much you really care about “men saying derogatory things about women”;

          So a man saying a few derogatory comments against women is far worse than honour killings, slavery, death by stoning and cultural misogyny is it?

          Citation: https://thedailyblog.co.nz/2017/01/22/the-inauguration-vs-womensmarch-a-tale-of-two-gatherings/#comment-366752

          “A few derogatory comments against women” is apparently acceptable to you?

          So I’ll repeat my earlier statement; you care nothing about sexual assault against women. You are exploiting this issue to promote your own partisan politics.

          • Thanks for pointing these out to me Frank, you forgot that I told a disparaging joke about the Irish in Sept 1982 that I haven’t apologised for yet, but as you have so much time on your hands I’m sure you would have gotten around to it.

            To answer each in turn, well we will leave that we disagree that Twitter is a left wing echo chamber to another day. We can agree to disagree on that one.

            As for ‘lamenting that a sex toy was to be thrown at Jacinda’ I like your twist on that. What I was implying (and I’m sure you knew this) was why was it ok for Josie Butler to throw a dildo at Stephen Joyce in protesting at the TTTP, how come she didb’t do the same to Labour when they actually signed the TTTP? As much as I disagree at Jacidas politics, I would never lower myself to such an act, i found the act disgusting. Yet Josie (with I must say a fair amount of vocal support from many on the left) suddenly had a change of heart…one may call it hypocrisy.

            Refer to the ‘Pretty Face’ comment. Don’t you think it very strange that when Andrew Little was the Labour leader, they were struggling along at the mid 20’s. Jacinda came along and suddening it’s the mid 40’s? No policies had changed, the front bench had hardly changed. My talking to people was that ‘she’s so pretty’ and ‘Jacinda is so lovely’. Although hardly scientific, it was only through my very limited contact with people that that was the reason for the change.

            As for the “So a man saying a few derogatory comments against women is far worse than honour killings, slavery, death by stoning and cultural misogyny is it?” You really can’t be serious? So you are comparing a few off the cuff comments against women (that happen against men every day) is up there or worse than being stoned to death?

            BTW I refer to you my first point…So its ok now for Andrew Little to trivialise sexual assaults against prison staff? I notice that you have done everything in your power to actually avoid that question.

            BG being banned is 5,4,3…

            • So you are comparing a few off the cuff comments against women (that happen against men every day) is up there or worse than being stoned to death?

              The fact you are unable to understand that “a few off the cuff comments against women ” leads to a social environment where brutal crimes can be enacted against women suggests that you have no real concerns about sexism, violence against women, etc. Indeed, the fact that you mitigate “a few off the cuff comments against women” because, hey, “that happen against men every day” underscores that you are using Little’s comments for your own right-wing agenda.

              Rightwingers like you don’t give a shit about women and the daily “few off the cuff comments against women” they have to endure. It only matters when you can weaponise it to attack your political opponant.

              That is why I don’t address your comments about Andrew Little. It would only be validating your faux outrage and playing your game. You obviously don’t care much for the sexism women have to endure. Unless it suits you to do so.

              But keep it going, Bg. You provide the opportunity to show how bankrupt the Right can be on such matters.

            • So, Bg, you’re complaining about what Andrew Little said. But what you’ve said, as Frank pointed out, is a form of misogyny against women as well. Careful mate, your hypocrisy is showing.

  5. You lot are just a bunch of liberal idiots. One day you will have your house burgled, car taken or face smashed in. You will have a different point of view then. Angry Andy wont be there to help but McVicar will.

    • “Angry Andy wont be there to help but McVicar will.”

      Oh dear, never mind “Angry Andy” – it looks like Angry Gary is here. And how, precisely with McVicar “help” if we have our “house burgled, car taken or face smashed in”?! Has he secretly joined the Police force?

    • Bullshit! I have been burgled many times had 2 vehicles stolen, been sexually assaulted and beaten up. Police did Fuck all. Yeah nah the Justice system is barely credible inthis pathetic little country. The evidence Act 2006 is a piece of shit that lets thepolice get away with unlawful searches and dodgy evidence that is not required to meet the rigorous standards set in other Western Democracies. The criteria for admissability of electronic evidence is woeful and open to criminal manufacturing of evidence by the police. And it happens. THe legal aid fund has been decimated by the gnats. everything is stacked in favour of the prosecution and you are guilty unless you can prove yourself innocent. Defence lawyers worth their fee are overloaded. The crown is packed with troughing scum who do not give a fuck and prosecute to get the money. This country’s justice system is rotten and full of gutless weasels working the system to get their fees. Peopl’e lives blighted and destroyed on a daily basis because our Justice system is a piece of shit. I wish Kim Dot Com
      well in sticking it to us all because we are so fucking stupid as to allow this to happen.

    • Except that McVicar’s antics are making it more likely that I’ll be burgled, have my car stolen or be assaulted.

  6. Andrew Little is right, as he usually is.
    The SST may have started out with good intentions, but has gradually developed into a hater organisation with personal agendas that go way beyond what civilised society should be espousing.
    What is worse is that they have become politically skewed, nailing their colours to National and that has made them even more short-sighted.
    I’ve said it before – National is NOT tough on crime.
    National is tough on punishment and that is not the same as being tough on crime.
    Being tough on crime means tackling the causes of crime before they manifest themselves in incidents which cause harm.
    The fence at the top of the cliff or the ambulance at the bottom?
    I hope Labour can lead the way here, although it is a huge job.

  7. No comment from anyone as to why Kelvin Davis seems to have no involvement. Maybe even Kelvin himself has realised that he is out of his depth and is better to leave it all up to Andrew

  8. don’t forget that mcvicar stood for the right/tories to split the rightwing vote in napier – so to gift the seat to their rightwing labour candidate stuart nash..

    it pays not to forget matters such as that..

    mcvicar/nash are both just tory trouts/pawns..
